Chapter 2 - Episode 1 Posthouse_2

"I've indeed traveled to many places." Lynch looked up, gazing at the sun through layers of red leaves, "Sos, why do you ask if I'm a bard?"

"I want to hear stories. Every time I want to hear the stories of bards passing by the inn, my dad makes me work in the backyard." Sos said with a pout, "He doesn't let me listen to stories."

"Your father doesn't want you to go on adventures too early." Lynch sighed softly, "What kind of story do you want to hear?"

"I want to hear stories about elves and dwarves." Sos clapped his hands excitedly.

"Have you seen elves and dwarves?"

"Um, my mom said I did, but I really can't remember." The boy scratched his head, looking a bit embarrassed.

Lynch smiled, softly chanting as he extended his finger, pointing to the empty space in front of them.

Sos followed his finger and saw an elf's illusion emerging from there. The vague image of an elf in his memory suddenly became clear.

It was the image of an elf female warrior with a longbow: her green straight hair cascaded over her bare white shoulders, and her blue eyes were fixed on the boy whose mouth hung open in surprise; a smile played at her lips, revealing neat and white teeth beneath her tender red lips; her figure was slender, but the toned muscles on her calves suggested that she was a nimble and agile character; the finely crafted leather armor tightly hugged her body, accentuating her curves; to allow more shoulder movement while shooting, the armor was cut sleeveless, with her delicate arms resting gently at her sides, and her slender fingers lightly teasing the bell hanging from her thigh—but no sound rang out.

"Behold, an elf." Lynch said with a smile.

The boy ran next to the standing elf, who also smiled gently at him.

"Hello, ah... my name is Sos. What's your name?" The boy extended his hand, wanting to shake hands with the elf standing before him.

But all he could feel was clearly only air.

"Sos, come over here and sit. What else do you want to see?"

The boy still didn't quite understand why he could see the elf but not touch it. However, his desire to see other things soon made him forget this question.

"I want to see a dwarf with a big beard!" The boy said as he gestured at his chin, showing Lynch how big the dwarf's beard should be.

The man in the black robe waved his hand through the air, his fingers dancing as if playing on strings. The elf before them gradually shrank and blurred. Before long, a stout dwarf about one and a half meters tall stood before them.

It was truly a dwarf with a big beard: from his ear, along his sideburns, to his chin, and down to his chest, was a mass of auburn beard. Amidst the fluffy and tangled beard were a few small braids—braided from the beard and bound with blue or gray cloth strips. The dwarf's big mouth completely disappeared beneath the covering beard, leaving only a giant nose to thwart these whiskers' further climbing ambitions. His calloused hands continuously smoothed his dangling beard, and his crow's feet-laden eyes squinted, looking kindly at the little boy.

"Wow! Amazing!" Sos looked at the dwarf in front of him, "Can you show me what halflings look like? My mom and dad say they always look like kids."

For Lynch, that was simply a matter of moving his fingers.

And so, during the ensuing time, on this road leading to Moon Harbor City, beneath a maple tree full of red leaves, at the stone slab where a large man and a child sat, various famous creatures from the Anriel Continent continuously appeared. From birds flying in the sky to ancient dragons that have dwelled in caves for generations; not only angels with sacred auras appeared but also hell demons enveloped in black flames...

The little boy widened his eyes, not wanting to miss any of the wonders before him. He continuously clapped his little hands, cheering happily at the various creatures that appeared in front of him.

"Brother Lynch, that..." Sos timidly asked, "What do mages look like?"

"Why do you want to know what mages look like?"

"Because my dad says they are all terrifying, very powerful but do not regard human life," Sos said as he recalled, "Every time I want to follow the travelers to go on adventures elsewhere, my dad always says the mages will come back to capture and eat me. I know he's just trying to scare me, but I'm still very curious about what mages are like?"

"Child, do you like to go on adventures?"

"Yes, I want to see the world outside. I want to know what's on the other side of this road, what it will lead me to..."

"Even if a mage captures you and eats you, you still want to go out?"

"Yes, one day, I will visit the elves' cities, taste the dwarves' brewed ale and see how it differs from ours, see if halflings are always that tall, and ask the giant dragons what dreams they have while sleeping all day. Of course, I also want to see what mages look like. Oh right, Brother Lynch, you still haven't told me what mages look like."

"Mages, well, they..." Lynch thought for a while, "When you grow up, when you go on an adventure someday, you will see what mages look like. I'm not going to tell you now."

"Ah, that's not fair, saving it till the end and then not letting me see..." The boy's face was full of disappointment.

Lynch looked at the sun; it had already begun to set slowly, with his radiant orb touching the distant mountain ridges.

"Sos, I need to hit the road now. Perhaps we'll meet again someday."

"Are you leaving just like that? Won't you stay the night here? I really like your stories."

"No, I have an appointment to catch."

"Wait..." The boy ran into the house and soon came out with a water pouch.

"This contains fruit wine brewed at our house, um, it's the kind without water added. Thank you for telling me stories for such a long time."

Lynch accepted the water pouch and pulled out a ring to give to the boy: "I made this myself; it's not worth much, just a small toy for you. I hope it brings you good fortune."

And then, Lynch set off, quickly disappearing at the end of the distant road.

Sos looked at the ring in his hand, which was a silvery ring engraved with spiral patterns and strange characters. He carefully put it in his pocket and watched Lynch's distant figure: "One day, I will become a great adventurer. I will meet mages and have them tell me the most magical stories."
