Magus Bloodlines.-Chapter 56: Possibly Working Together?
Chapter 56 - Possibly Working Together?
Jackson ran through the crowd of students. Gunfire rang out all around the arena and explosions filled areas with smoke and debris. Students screamed as they ran, trying to follow the orders of the nearby staff. He had to hurry; his best friend and alpha needed him. He felt the ancient magic like a compulsion in his heart after he received the orders from his alpha.
He made his way through the crowd searching for a certain girl with blue hair as he went. Most of the students were going the opposite direction so it was fairly easy for Jackson to get through everyone. He was only a few more minutes from the infirmary win of the arena when he saw Helena rush out from an adjacent hallway, just as sweaty as he was.
He was beyond grateful to see she was alright. He had been worried she had gotten caught up in the initial attack. "Did you get the summons too then?" He asked her as she joined running through the hallway with him.
She answered breathlessly "Yeah, somehow I started hearing Erza's voice in my head. Must be the pack connection between alphas and the betas." She wasn't one hundred percent sure about this but it made the most sense. Shifters were magical beings together. The normal laws of magic didn't always apply the same way.
"Either way it was a weird sensation, gonna take some getting used to, that's for sure," Jackson said huffing as they turned another corner and arrived at the infirmary doors. Jackson tried pushing the door open only to find it wouldn't budge an inch. They must have already locked it down, Jackson thought.
"Gavin! Erza! Let us in, it's us," Jackson called out. He could hear some shuffling and a whooshing sound as whatever was blocking the door moved and a woman stood in front of them. She quickly grabbed their arms and pulled them inside. Once Jackson and Helena were inside the infirmary the sounds of earth, stone and metal moving could be heard as the reinforcement was replaced blocking the door shut once again.
The green haired woman stormed over to Jackson and Helena. "You two students are so reckless. What are you doing running over here when the campus is being attacked?" she demanded as she glared at them.

Jackson swallowed hard as he was taken aback by her hostile attitude. "Our friends are here ma'am. Neither are in any decent condition to protect themselves, we only wanted to help," he said as he took a hesitant step back. He was not expecting a staff member to berate him on trying to help protect other students. Like what else was he supposed to do? Be a good boy and hide behind others again?
Helena huffed, clearly not intimidated by the head nurse. "Yeah, it looks like you need all the bodies you can get right now to defend the place," she said as she glared right back at the staff member. Helena didn't know who she was, how strong she was, or anything. All she knew was the alpha's called for help, and she would not disappoint them. Gavin could barely move, and Erza wasn't exactly in peak condition herself.
Nurse Jane sighed as she glanced between the two newcomers. She didn't expect anyone to come reinforce their part of the campus. Not with the warzone going on outside. She was getting fed updates by security forces via an earpiece she had in. As it stood, it was a bloodbath outside. The sheer size and ferocity of their forces far exceeded that from last time. It appeared that they came prepared, truly prepared for war.
"You are right child. I do need all the help to protect the weak and injured in here. Thank you," Jane said as she waved a hand between them. "For now, go see to your friends, the fighting hasn't reached our section yet." Jane said as she turned to the other staff members and was conferring with them.
Helena and Jackson looked around and spotted Erza glaring at Gavin. He was trying to sit up on his bed, his eyes glowing a strange shade of red they hadn't seen before. His face was flushed from exertion as he struggled to sit up.
Jackson rushed over and put a hand on Gavin's shoulder. "Easy buddy. You can't push yourself," Jackson said. He could feel Gavin's muscles tensing under his hand. He was struggling to sit up and probably going to try standing if he was allowed.
Gavin glared at his beta. "Help me up," he said as he shrugged Jackson's hand off his shoulder. Jackson looked to the angry stare from Erza and sighed heavily. He hated being put in the middle like this. Erza cross her arms over her chest as Jackson obeyed his alpha. He reached under Gavin's shoulders and gently helped move him to sit on the bed with his legs hanging over the edge.
"Thank you," Gavin said as he looked around. He wasn't sure what exactly the material was that the staff used to reinforce the walls and door to the infirmary, but it had a black sheenlike surface that reflected the lights around them. "Hey Erick, you alive over there," Gavin called out as he glanced to the nearby bed that Erick Lyons was occupying.
"Yeah scooby, I'm alive," Erick said, disdain for him obvious in his tone. He still couldn't believe he lost the match earlier. He was doing well, pushing Gavin into a corner he thought. Then suddenly he moved so fast that Erick couldn't follow and that was all it took.
Gavin bit back a snobby retort as he walked over with Jackson and Erza quietly helping him. "You good to fight?" he asked the lion shifter who was sitting up on his bed. He had some bandages around his chest and arms, but didn't seem overly injured from their fight.
Erick sneered at them as they approached. "You want your butt kicked again so soon?" Erick asked cockily. He knew in both their current conditions; Erick would destroy Gavin.
Erza's eyes glowed a dangerous mix of yellow and red as she stepped forth. Her breathing was hard and heavy as she grabbed Erick by his open shirt collar and pulled him in close, her breath burning hot against his skin. "If you even think of laying a finger on him right now, I'll rip out your heart and shove it down your throat," she said so quietly that Gavin could barely make out the angry words.
Oh yeah, she was definitely pregnant and angry. Oh well, better Erick face her wrath than she turns it on him. He gently gripped her arm and pulled her weakly back. "It's okay. Even Erick isn't stupid enough to pick a fight in a situation like this. Out of everyone in this room right now, he is probably one of the strongest fighters we have," Gavin said begrudgingly to his hormonal wife. He had to keep her anger under control right now. She couldn't be lashing out with everything going on.
Erick nodded grimly. "I just got off the phone with Kayla, she is on her way here. But she says the fighting is getting bad, there's bodies everywhere," Erick said quietly as he looked at Gavin. "Should a fight break out in here, don't worry. I'm good enough to fight," Erick said as he kept his eyes locked on Gavin.
Gavin nodded. "Appreciate it. My first priority is my mate and pack naturally. But we cannot turn a blind eye to those weaker than ourselves." Gavin said as he leaned against Jackson.
Erick scoffed in derision. "Foolish thinking like that is going to get you killed someday wolf," Erick said. He couldn't believe those words. The thing in the world that mattered was strength. The strong preyed on the weak. It's just how life was.
A loud explosion sounded closer than the others and the walls of the infirmary shook from the impact. The fighting was here.
