Male Lead's Canon Fodder Wife-Chapter 1384: What If
After hearing her husband's explanation, Lu Jueyu finally understood the problem.
There were several factions in the government, and whoever controlled the food supply would gain the upper hand. No wonder they were even contacting black market middlemen.
Just after they finished their discussion, Dong Li returned with the empty bamboo baskets, and they had lunch together. After lunch, Li Chenmo and Dong Li closed their eyes and took a nap.
Lu Jueyu didn't return home after lunch. Instead, she took out a bowl of ice from her space by using the bamboo basket as cover. She placed the bowl near her husband and son and used a palm leaf fan to fan them slowly.
With the ice, the temperature around them was cooler, allowing father and son to enjoy a good nap.
Before the lunch break ended, she stored the remaining ice back in her space and gently pushed her husband's arm. "Husband, wake up. It's almost time."
Although Li Chenmo was sleeping soundly, he was a light sleeper. Feeling the gentle nudge from his wife, he opened his eyes and let out a soft murmur, "Mhmm."
Seeing him sweating, Lu Jueyu took out a warm, wet towel from her space and handed it to him. She helped him up and said, "Husband, wipe away your sweat."
Sitting up, Li Chenmo took the towel and wiped his face and body. Feeling refreshed, he looked at the sky and then woke his son, "Ah Li, wake up."
Dong Li woke up in a daze, sitting with his eyes half-closed. It was rare to see him looking like that, and Lu Jueyu couldn't help but rub his hair. She handed him a towel and let him wipe himself.
Not long after, the siren echoed across the area, and everyone woke up from their nap.
Before leaving, Lu Jueyu refilled their waterskins with her lake water and said, "Husband, remember to drink more water. I will head back first."
Li Chenmo nodded and reminded her, "Be careful on the road."
"Okay."
When she returned home, Lu Jueyu went into her space to take a bath and have a nap.
Five hours later, she came out and went to water the greenhouse. When she was done, she took out some medicinal herbs from her space and laid them out under the sun to dry.
While she was busy, Li Sang was having a conversation with his daughter at Doctor Xie's house.
Sitting on the balcony, Li Shu looked at her father and said, "Father, I can talk to Grandpa about Shitou's matter, but I don't know if Grandmother will agree."
Li Sang let out a sigh and replied, "Ah Shu, don't worry about your grandmother. Father will handle her."
After a moment of silence, Li Shu asked, "Father, are you going to remarry?"
Hearing his daughter's question, Li Sang smiled and asked in return, "Is Ah Shu worried about that too?"
Seeing his daughter's solemn gaze, he laughed and said, "Don't worry, Father has no intention to remarry."
Li Shu thought about her father's words and looked at her brother, who was sleeping soundly beside her.
After a while, she said, "Father, I would be happy if you found someone you truly like and married her. But if you are marrying just to fulfill Grandmother's wishes, then I hope you will think twice."
Meeting her father's gaze, she continued, "Father, you are a good man. You deserve to be loved and to find your own happiness. As your children, we don't want to be your burden."
"I'm no longer a child. Next year, I will be thirteen, and I can take care of my brother. So if you find someone you like, please think of yourself first."
Hearing her words, Li Sang felt both moved and saddened. He reached out and gently patted her head while saying, "Ah Shu, the world of adults isn't that simple."
"It's true that Father felt betrayed by your mother and was hurt. But the reason I haven't remarried isn't because of her or because of you and your brother."
"Then what is the reason?" Li Shu asked, feeling puzzled.

Li Sang looked out at the distant mountains as his thoughts drifted back to his childhood. After a long time, he finally said softly, "Father doesn't know either."
He often wondered—if Chen Lina hadn't lied to him back then, would he have ended up with that person and had a happy marriage?
He could think of countless "what if" scenarios, but no matter what, that person was no longer in the village, and he couldn't find her again.
Even if he never had romantic feelings for her, he still wanted to thank her in person. Unfortunately, even that was no longer possible.
On the day of his wedding, she had said her goodbyes and left the village. He hadn't realized that thirteen years had passed since he last saw her. Now, he only hoped she had a good life and found a good husband.
Seeing her father lost in thought, Li Shu didn't disturb him. She knew that matters of the heart were never simple. That's why she herself was troubled by Chen Jianmin's feelings.
Come to think of it, he hadn't visited her for two days. She didn't know what had happened to him. The weather has become hot and humid lately. Maybe she should cook some mung bean soup for him.
While the two of them were lost in their own thoughts, Chen Jianmin was busy planting in the fields with his family. Wiping the sweat from his forehead, he looked toward Doctor Xie's direction.
Seeing that the old man's face was red but his lips were pale, he grabbed his water bottle and walked over.
He handed the bottle to Doctor Xie and said, "Grandpa, drink some water first. If you are tired or not feeling well, you should rest. I will help you finish the work."
Doctor Xie was indeed feeling unwell. He accepted the bottle and took several sips. Even after drinking, he still felt dizzy and said, "I will rest for a while."
