Chapter 230: The Power Of The Heart [Part 1]

The more I ran, the more the corridors stretched unnaturally. The end of the hallway became something I couldn’t reach. It was just right there, yet I couldn’t make it.

I was out of breath, and my legs strained. My entire body screamed at me to stop and collect my strength, but if I did, my two minutes might be over before I had the chance to do anything. Even if I woke up now, Drevon wouldn’t be able to reach Eloise on time.

I had a chance here. So keep moving and don’t stop!

I rasped, almost slipping when my legs clenched, but I braced my hand on the wall, not ceasing my steps. The end may be difficult to reach, but I knew I could do it.

Suddenly, the end was near, and with a breath of relief. I hastened my steps, dashing towards the next corridor, and the force threw me to the wall. I growled, forcing my body to move.

Just one more turn. Move! I curved to another direction and I tripped, falling flat on my face. Shaking, I moved my hands, using the floor to lift my body, and sweat trickled from my face.

I tried to steady my harsh, unstable breathing; my entire body ached, but I mustered up the strength to lift my gaze. A chilly cold clutched my spine when I saw masked warlocks standing in the corridors like they were on guard. The doors leading to the chambers were wide open.

Oh no, was I too late?!

"Eloise!"

The warlocks snapped their heads to me simultaneously, and horror filled my lungs, because only their heads had turned, and the rest of their bodies remained still.

With a sickening crunch, their bodies pivoted, and terror grasped me.

They clustered like demons from hell that had come to take my soul. I backed away, ready to run away, but my legs wouldn’t move.

Their hands shadowed my face, and the tears fell before I could stop them. If they touch me, it will all be over.

Eloise... I’m sorry, I don’t think I can save you.

I close my eyes, crying as I await my fate.

Is this how it’s going to end? I have finally been freed from my cage. I was no longer a bird who couldn’t fly; my wings haven’t matured yet, but I hoped to one day soar through the skies without any weight.

Is this the end?

I felt a hand on my shoulder, and I turned, meeting eyes with one eye violet and the other so dark like the darkest night.

A smile curved his lips, and my heart nearly stopped.

"Corvin?"

I felt a power slip through me, and he faded away. My charcoal grey eyes turned a bright silver, and like taking my first breath, I shifted.

My beast unleashed, and I have never felt more powerful and more sure of myself, like the chains were snapped and bestiality became my salvation.

I couldn’t make note of what happened right after, for I possessed a speed unlike any other, and it seemed as if the rest of the world stood still for me. It was exhilarating.

I tore through warlocks like lumps of meat. My sharpened nails scratched the walls, a loud screeching disrupting the space. I forced my way into the chambers. Snow was suspended to the ground, whimpering, as if a plea for help.

Then I saw Zevrin, his hand shadowing Eloise’s stomach. When he caught notice of me, I pounced on him before he could retaliate.

I bit through his arm, fierce with my attack; his screams were gut-wrenching, but I didn’t stop. I was determined to end him right there.

Out of nowhere, an invisible force ripped me off him and cast me into the skies.

The last thing I wanted was Diana taking such risks. There was only so much I could deal with. But talking her out of this will get me nowhere. If I force her, she would only do something crazier without my knowledge.

My best chance was standing here, watching as my little sister dived into the unknown.

I have been there with Zevrin, and even I couldn’t reach him. The dream was his world, and he could bend anything to his will. I pondered how Diana could deal with him.

I had reasons to believe that Corvin didn’t offer his help in the first place because of Diana. These two seem to be familiar with each other in a way I didn’t like.

Corvin had some hidden agenda, and I won’t tolerate it if it involves my sister. It was always one thing or the other with warlocks.

"You’ll burn a hole through my mask if you keep staring at me that way."

"That will be the most satisfying thing at the moment."

"But not for me. Do not worry, Monarch of Lycans, I gave her a bit of my magic to offer assistance if needed. I had no intention of sending her there unprotected."

I fixed him with a questioning look. That was unusual for someone like him.

"This is not right," Ravyn said, pacing with her hands on her waist. "No one said anything about using magic against our intruders or dreamwalking. Putting the princess through this is not right."

I peeled my heavy gaze off Corvin and settled it at the center of the room. Diana was unconscious on a divan, and a circle of candles was around her.

"How long will it take?"

"It’s not up to two minutes. We can only start worrying when it exceeds that. I hope it doesn’t." He murmured the last part under his breath.

"All she has to do is find Zevrin, right?" Ravyn asked.

"Yes... that is all she needs to do."

I moved my gaze back to Diana, and my jaw clenched. Just standing here and waiting was killing me already. What if this doesn’t work and Zevrin found her instead?

Suddenly, Diana gasped awake, and the candles went out, leaving behind only the chandelier light. Before I could get to her, Corvin was already by her side to help her up.

"H-He’s here..."

"What?"

"He’s here! I attacked him, but he sent me away."

My eyes widened, and I rushed out of the room without hesitation.

I was fast on my feet, using my strength to blur past the wing. On getting to the corridors, there were no knights; all of them were gone, including Talia and Osha. I wasted no time as I pushed open the doors when I heard wild growls.

Snow was in bed beside Eloise, who was fast asleep, seething at a shadow.

I veered my gaze to the imposing figure. Zevrin was gasping for breath, holding his hand that was connected just by bone. The flesh tore off.

Did Diana do this?

"How dare she do this to me?" he said through a struggling voice. "How dare..." he coughed, body shaking as if the wound had done more damage.

Diana succeeded in wounding him, and it affected him in reality, something even I couldn’t do. I smirked as pride swelled in my chest.

"We meet again, Zevrin. This will be the last time," I said, stepping forward. "The first time was a luxury, but this shall be your inevitable doom. You came into my empire, tried to take my wife and unborn child, all because of your farcical, fanatic ideas."

He chuckled despite his predicament. "Fanatic ideas. You mortals have no idea of the importance of Magic. Magic is everything, the craft is our salvation, and I did what was necessary to ensure its survival."

"Sacrificing a child? Sacrificing my child," I seethed, fangs bared. "Your nonsense enrages me. My wrath is not something you should breed, but that’s too late now."

He shook when my eyes glowed a dangerous crimson, yet he found the will to speak.

"Your child is the Endless. Our oracle couldn’t even see deeper into the child’s future. I was meant to give it a future, born and sacrificed for a greater purpose, and now I have failed. Your child’s future is dark, and there is no light for he is Endless..."

"Future?" I stepped closer and he backed away. "I assure you, Zevrin the White, one’s future is not made based on prophecies and images seen in spheres, and it is certainly not dictated. Yes, destinies are enforced, but in the end, we build our own future, and we choose. Come what may, Zevrin, it all lies in our own hands."

He laughed, out loud and unhinged, almost like he was mocking me, but behind that, I saw a man who knew his end was inevitable.

"Well said, Father of the Endless." Then his amusement died, and his words turned gloomy. "Mark my words, Father of the Endless, this is but a parting gift."

I narrowed my eyes when his body turned to ashes, starting with his legs.

"I won’t be the only one who comes for the Endless." He faded away into nothing.
