Chapter 63: An Encounter With The Prince

I have never gazed into such soulless eyes before. There was no flicker of emotion, just dead eyes staring back at me, like a bottomless abyss you could never see the end of. And it would be the last thing I see.

I’d be a fool if I didn’t feel his killing intent spiking toward me. In this moment, I didn’t see a seven-foot man holding me like you’d do clothing, but a predator ready to devour his prey.

He leaned toward me, slow and lethal, eyeing me like I was the most unusual thing, before he brought his lips to my ear. "You’re not fighting," he said deeply, delight laced in his tone like a curse.

Pure dread slipped into my skin like ice. His voice was just as lifeless as his eyes.

No Lycan I’ve met has ever infused this much fear into me. Not even the ones that attacked me with their true appearance.

"You’re making this boring," he said with a sudden frown.

He released me, my body colliding with the hard pavement. If it weren’t for my clothes, the flood would’ve scraped me so badly.

Move, Eloise, move!

My mind screamed desperately at me, and like a puppet under a string, I thrust my hand on the cold floor, forcing my body to move, but all I managed was a crawl.

The dread had induced my body to be numb. This wasn’t like that day when the Lycans attacked...this was something else, something I couldn’t explain, deeper to be labeled dread.

I froze when my gaze found shoes in front of me, and I raised my head to see him crouching.

I gulped audibly.

"Tell me, what’s a human doing so far from their holes?" he asked. "The least you can do is tell me so that I can have something to remember you by. You seem like an interesting person to know personally."

He ranted on, and my nerves only spiked. Who says terrifying words as if he spoke about the weather?

He’s going to kill me. And that is not a thought, it was a fact that screamed right in my face.

"We should make this less boring, too."

Less boring? Was my terror-stricken body some sort of amusing game?

"Scream," he implored, and his eyes begged too.

"Loud..." His hand reached for me.

As his palm got closer, it shadowed my entire face. I wanted to move, but I couldn’t. I can’t move, I can’t move!

I squeezed my eyes shut.

However, whatever I waited for didn’t come, and when I found the courage to open my eyes, he was staring not at me but something else.

He stretched his hand for my hairpin, and with a tug, my hair fell like a blanket, spraying to the floor.

"Why are you wearing this? Only the women of the Balthar wear this." And then he took one long look at me and concluded.

"You’re the human my brother’s fucking. The bride." He snatched my chin. "Of course, that makes sense now."

He’s Damon Balthar! Oh no... of all the Lycans I have to encounter, it was him.

"Let me go," I found my voice.

"Hmm.." he mumbled, tilting my head like he was studying me, completely ignoring my words. "My brother’s taste in women baffles me. I wonder how he can fuck a thing like you, or are you good at sucking his cock?"

I yanked my chin away from his hold. "Lay a finger on me and you’re going to regret it."

Not my best choice of words, but he knew my identity, so he would be foolish to do so.

"I already did," he said, amused. "But my brother is out of the castle now."

I fixed him with a glare, my fist clenched hard against the pavement.

"I wonder what my brother sees in you. I have always understood him, even in the years we were apart. Always. But this is one thing I don’t get."

The pressure in the air tightened, and my body went more numb than it was before, a squeezing sensation coming to my chest. This feeling was all too familiar.

The Alpha command.

Damon kissed me before I could think of anything else, forcing his tongue into my mouth in a mix of insanity. A feeling churned my stomach, as disgust doused me like a burning fire.

I crammed my eyes shut and did the only thing I could. I bit him, hard, even though it felt like my teeth would fall off, but I kept going, determined to get his disgusting mouth off me.

Then, it worked.

Damon pulled away, and his command dispelled.

I turned away and spat the blood from my mouth, bringing my glare back to him. I froze when I saw the look in his eyes; there was a twinkle in them so dim that it caused a terrifying chill to swamp my insides.

Damon reached for his lips, feeling the blood there before licking it with his tongue.

I forced my body to move then, pushing up with all my might until I found my footing. I wasted no time as I hurried away, even though my body felt like giving up on me.

When I made a turn, I bumped into someone, lifting my gaze. I found Sloane staring at me with startled eyes as she took in my dismantled appearance.

I breezed past her in a hurry to get away.

I had no idea how I made it to my wing in one piece. I had wiped the blood off with my handkerchief, and straightened my hair with my hand, the only thing that gave me away was the sweat beading my face like I had run a mile.

I found Osha at the door, and thankfully, Lucan wasn’t present. When Osha saw me, her eyes lit up and a bright smile curled on her lips, but that soon faded away when she caught me heaving for breath.

"Your Grace?"
