Chapter 440: Childish Brat

Selina was definitely feeling guilty.

She hadn’t expected it at all—the entire presidential suite was decorated in SpongeBob! Foster VP must have been out of his mind with childlike enthusiasm.

When she was a kid living under Katie’s thumb, she never got to enjoy cartoons or any of the usual things children liked.

So after Grandpa brought her home, she went through a phase of being obsessed with them.

Especially SpongeBob and Doraemon—those had been her absolute favorites for about a month.

But that was over ten years ago! Why did her second brother still remember? And did he have to plaster SpongeBob all over the curtains, sheets, even the carpets? Did he want to publicly execute her dignity?

There was no way she’d let Logan see that.

Selina forced a smile. "Nothing, really. I’m just... concerned about their shooting schedule. Besides, the studio’s set up in the sky garden. Don’t you want to go check it out?"

Logan gave her a very knowing look. "Nope."

Selina: "..."

Does this man have any emotional intelligence? Can’t he read the room?!

"Mrs. Reid," Logan added helpfully, "Foster VP wasn’t exactly whispering just now—and the lounge door was wide open."

Which meant—

There were only three people on the whole floor. No background noise. The open door meant Logan had heard everything Foster VP said.

Selina struggled to maintain her dignity. "I’m going to the studio!"

Logan raised an eyebrow. "This is HM Hotel’s presidential suite. If you don’t even go in and rest a bit... that’d be a waste."

Selina snapped, red with embarrassment. "I’m not going in!"

Logan paused, then couldn’t help but laugh softly.

He really hadn’t pictured Mrs. Reid liking something so... adorable. He nodded seriously. "You should chat with Luke sometime. He’s pretty childish too."

Selina: "..."

She picked up her pace and hit the elevator button, slamming the door shut before Logan could follow her in.

The shoot went on until a little after four in the afternoon. When it finally wrapped up, Foster VP had even arranged a banquet to treat everyone.

By the time they left HM Hotel, it was past eight at night.

Because the entire hotel had been booked out, half the upper crust had been dying to know who had the guts—and the money—to pull it off. Many had posted lookouts near the hotel all day.

"I heard Mrs. Lee say she saw Riley Nelson today. You think the Nelson Family booked it?"

"Nelson Family? You think they can afford that? HM Hotel doesn’t just take anyone’s money."

"Maybe it was Hunter..."

"Look, someone’s coming out!"

All eyes turned.

"It’s Mr. Reid and Mrs. Reid? Guess that answers it. Must’ve been Mr. Reid who booked it. Makes sense—he’s the only one with that kind of pull. HM Hotel would do it for him."

"Wait..." someone frowned. "Why is HM Hotel’s number two, the famous Foster VP, bowing and scraping in front of Selina?"

That made everyone really look.

The person at the center of the entourage wasn’t Logan at all—it was Selina.

She was the one HM Hotel’s entire management was treating like royalty.

Foster VP himself opened the car door for her, and aside from a polite goodbye, he only spoke two sentences to Logan the whole time.

It was painfully obvious who his priority was.

If Logan had been the one who booked the place, Foster VP should have been all over him.

"I think..." an assistant swallowed nervously, "the one who booked the whole hotel might have been Selina."

Silence fell.

After a long moment, one heiress finally spoke in a thoughtful tone:

"If that’s true... maybe it’s time we start working on getting close to Selina."

The next day, what happened at HM Hotel spread like wildfire throughout Reid Group’s headquarters.

At first no one believed it—until they confirmed that the marketing team really had been kicked out halfway through shooting, while the entire design department got to stay at HM Hotel for free all night.

"So you’re saying the VIP who actually booked out the hotel was Selina?"

"Huh? But when Riley left yesterday, she said she was the hotel’s VIP."

"Either she was delusional, or she was deliberately trying to steal what was Selina’s. Shameless."

"The marketing team missed their deadline and is getting their pay docked, while she sat in the office sipping coffee and claiming ’I didn’t know.’"

"Clearly she just wanted to date someone."

"Date who? Mr. Reid? He’s married. Hunter’s a decent guy—how did he end up with a sister like her?"

"She’s not even really his sister."

"Wonder what Hunter’s real family is like. Bet they’re way better than Riley..."

CRASH!

Riley slammed her coffee cup so hard it shattered.

Thanks to Selina, even these nobodies dared to gossip about her!

But so what if she lost to Selina this time? Once she took over SL, they’d all be groveling at her feet.

Riley let out a cold smile. She’d already heard the details: Logan said CL Group and SL Group were originally one entity. He’d mentioned CL was just being managed for someone else, and eventually it would be returned.

Obviously, that someone was Hunter.

Riley was certain that if she cried a little and Nelson Family pressured Hunter, she could get both SL and CL under her control.

Then she’d be president of two major groups—a real boss—while Selina would just be some woman leaning on a man.

The contrast couldn’t be clearer.

That thought cheered her right up.

Lunchtime. In the break room.

Luke burst in, practically vibrating with excitement. "Selina! I heard you caused a huge scene at HM Hotel yesterday, even got a full-on symphony to perform for you. So fancy! Did you even understand what they were playing?"

That orchestra’s title was like two whole lines long. Luke was half-impressed, half-baffled. This little fox spirit was really working her charms.

Selina: "..." Her fists itched.

Luke frowned. "Though honestly it’s not all your fault. It’s Logan’s. His taste is garbage, so he dragged you down too. I mean, a world-class symphony? Way too highbrow. It’s normal if you didn’t get it."

"Mm. You have taste," Logan said mildly, putting down his book and giving Luke a sidelong look. "Perfect timing."

Luke blinked. Perfect timing for what?

Before he could figure it out, Logan lifted his chin in a subtle gesture. "Sit here. You two ’cultured’ people can share notes."

Luke: "...???"

Selina immediately thought of yesterday’s SpongeBob decor. Her face went white, then red, then white again. She took several deep breaths before forcing a brittle smile and changing the subject.

"The press conference for the CL and SL merger. Are we ready?"

Logan saw she was about to blow her top and let it go, smiling faintly. "Of course."

Luke: "???" What the hell kind of coded conversation was that? They were just going to drop it?

But Luke was no idiot. He knew one thing for sure: never ask questions you don’t really want answered.

So he picked a different question he probably shouldn’t ask.

"Hey, have you guys heard the rumors about SL?"

Selina frowned. "What rumors?"

Luke leaned in conspiratorially. "Word is... the chairman of SL has a thing for Riley!"

Selina: "...Huh?"
