Married to Officer, Pregnant Specialist becomes the Winner!-Chapter 33: Of Course I Have Evidence
Wen Zhqing’s gaze fell on Gu Jia Ning like a cold arrow, "Today, it was Comrade Gu Jia Ning who invited me here."
Everyone widened their eyes and looked at Gu Jia Ning, who, in contrast, held her lips together, remaining calm.
It’s just...
Her peripheral vision landed on the man standing beside her at some unknown time, slightly surprised; when did Sheng Zexi arrive?
Wen Zhqing naturally also noticed Sheng Zexi. When he mentioned Gu Jia Ning, the man’s eyes darkened, coldly sweeping him a glance. At that moment, Wen Zhqing felt like being watched by a beast, a tingling sensation on his scalp.
He could confirm that this man’s hands had been stained with blood.
Knowing he was a military officer, Wen Zhqing understood that if possible, it’s best not to confront this person head-on.
But now, that wasn’t an option.
Even if he did end up with Bao Shanyan, he didn’t want to marry her.
If he had to marry someone in Huaihua Village, he wanted it to be Gu Jia Ning.
Under Sheng Zexi’s murderous gaze, he continued, "Everyone knew about Comrade Gu Jia Ning’s feelings for me before."
"Yesterday, she passed me a note saying she still liked me, and the reason she met and got engaged with others was because of family pressure."
"She invited me here to discuss things because she wants to be with me."
"But when I arrived, instead of seeing her, it was Bao Shanyan, who directly covered my mouth and nose with a drugged handkerchief."
"By the time I was released, I had lost my sanity."
"So that is how what happened occurred."
Being schemed by two women and losing his innocence was humiliating for Wen Zhqing, who prided himself on manipulating others without being manipulated.
Now, however, he had to personally uncover this disgrace.
"Everyone knows Bao Shanyan’s strength; not even a crazed wild boar can be stopped by her."
"But she didn’t do it this time, because it was all a scheme against me."
"And accusing me of being a rogue? Well, go ahead and report it then. I want the police and commune leaders to see that we educated youth came to the countryside to support the construction, but you’ve designed such plots to harm us. Isn’t this outright defiance against national policy?"
Wen Zhqing’s words were almost about to directly accuse Huaihua Village’s villagers of planning a rebellion.
Even though he hadn’t said it, his previous words had already placed a heavy accusation on them.
Alongside his formidable presence and his fearless demeanor, a strong aura emerged, causing the villagers to panic.
"Yes, Gu Jia Ning was always chasing after Wen Zhiqing, we all saw it."
"How could Wen Zhiqing possibly fancy Bao Shanyan, anyone with half a brain would think it’s impossible."
"Turns out, it’s you Huaihua Village folks trying to persecute us educated youth; it’s Wen Zhiqing who suffered, and you turn around and accuse him."
"It’s not right, we must report to the commune, alert the police; we educated youth can’t be bullied like this, how are we supposed to survive then?"
Educated youths, regardless of gender, were indignant, speaking up for Wen Zhqing.
Most of the female educated youths liked Wen Zhqing, naturally hoping he wouldn’t be with Bao Shanyan or get arrested.
The male educated youths, many of whom were jealous of Wen Zhqing, figured his pairing with Bao Shanyan was good even if it was a setup.
Yet, they pondered Wen Zhqing’s arguments, which made sense.
They arrived here already at a disadvantage; if Wen Zhqing’s setup succeeded, they too might fall victim to similar plots?
Thus, despite their jealousy and dislike, in the name of their own interests, they stood by Wen Zhqing.
This was the ingenuity of Wen Zhqing; he understood that emotions and relationships are fake, it’s only interests that are real.
Meanwhile, some villagers grew uneasy; Old Gu and the village party branch uncle furrowed their brows, cautioning against sparking conflicts between educated youths and villagers, refusing to take blame for such accusations.
Sheng Zexi frowned, face tense, stepping forward as if to speak.
But he was pulled back by Gu Jia Ning’s sleeve.
Gu Jia Ning gave him a look of trust, then stepped forward to confront Wen Zhqing.
"Wen Zhiqing, you said I chased after you earlier, but it wasn’t because I liked you. It was my father’s instructions to take extra care of you educated youths, thus I visited your camp frequently, misunderstanding you."
"But, Wen Zhiqing, I really don’t like you. Moreover, not only have I gotten engaged, but Brother Sheng and I have also registered our marriage. We like each other. I’m not someone with fickle feelings, I absolutely wouldn’t do the things you said."
"You accuse me and Yanzi of scheming against you; it’s not plausible to conclude based on your words alone."
"Solving cases requires evidence and witnesses."
"You said I approached you yesterday; did anyone see me then? And the note, if it really exists, show it to everyone."
"You also claim Yanzi drugged you; where is the handkerchief? Is there drug residue on it? We can have Uncle Zhang examine it."
"That would clarify the situation."
"If what you said is true, we are indeed at fault; but if not, then your accusations of Yanzi’s misconduct stand, and we Huaihua villagers, though not as educated, know justice and will fight for it."
"Great!" Gu Jia Ning’s words were logical and her argument prompted villagers to nod, clapping in agreement.
Sheng Zexi’s gaze stayed on the radiant figure of his little girl, sunshine bathing her and illuminating her glow, making it impossible for him to look away.
He recognized the composure and confidence in her eyes.
He who intended to speak chose instead to hold back.
Perhaps he could trust in her ability to handle the situation.
"Indeed, Wen Zhiqing, show us the evidence."
"Yes, evidence clarifies everything."
When Zhao Weihong and Li Juan tried to speak, Gu Jia Ning timely cast them a glance, "Anyone wanting to forge evidence should consider the consequences."
At her words, Zhao Weihong and Li Juan hesitated, retracting their steps.
Wen Zhqing stared at Gu Jia Ning in surprise, having never seen her so sharp-tongued, making him certain her past affection was a facade.
He couldn’t understand why Gu Jia Ning dared speak so confidently, showing no doubt; did she think he couldn’t provide evidence?
Though lacking a witness, he had material evidence.
And that evidence rested in his pocket, surely it couldn’t vanish.
Reaching for the paper in his pocket, Wen Zhqing breathed a sigh of relief.
"I do have evidence." As he spoke, Wen Zhqing took out the folded note from his pocket.
