Chapter 265: KILL HER

"My king... it has been done."

The King of Shadover turned slowly, fingers tightening around the arm of his throne.

Curiosity sharpened his features, eyes gleaming beneath the flickering torchlight that lined the obsidian hall.

"I cannot wait. Spill."

The man before him hesitated, glancing around once as though the shadows themselves might be listening. His voice lowered, thick with excitement.

"The woman everyone believes to be blind... Princess Lumina. I do not believe she is blind at all. She can see. I am certain she can..."

Just then a violent force tore through the air, invisible yet devastating.

The man never finished his sentence before a crushing blast struck his chest, hurling him backward like a discarded rag.

His body slammed into the stone floor with a sickening crack, bones shattering on impact.

Blood pooled beneath him instantly.

He gasped, choking, fingers clawing uselessly at the ground as his life spilled out of him.

Panic flooded his eyes as his lips trembled as though he wanted to scream, but no sound emerged.

The shadows along the walls moved.

They peeled themselves away from the stone, thickening, twisting, rising into a humanoid form.

Light erupted from above, blinding in its purity. Golden sigils burned into the ceiling, ancient runes igniting with divine wrath. The shadow recoiled, shrieking soundlessly as the force crushed down upon it.

A figure descended through the light.

And there Seraphina appeared.

Her feet touched the ground without a sound. White and gold robes flowed around her, untouched by dust or blood.

The shadows struck at once and hit her barrier with everything they had.

But at once the shadow shattered on contact, fragments of darkness scattering like ash.

It tried to reform, pulling itself together, clawing for shape, for survival.

Seraphina lifted one hand and the shadow froze mid-movement, pinned in place by an unseen force. It writhed, contorted, its form stretching unnaturally as divine pressure crushed it from all sides.

Her fingers closed and the shadow imploded.

Darkness collapsed inward, compressed into a single point before erupting into nothingness.

The force sent a shockwave through the hall, cracking pillars, splintering stone, and shaking the palace to its foundation.

And then Silence followed, only blood and scorched stone remained.

The ShadowverKing staggered backward, face drained of color.

"High Priestess!"

Before he could take another step, something wet and heavy struck his cheek.

He froze and slowly touched his face and there he noticed the blood of another of his men splashed on him.

Seraphina stood before him now, so close that her presence burned his skin. Her gaze was cold, ancient, and utterly devoid of mercy.

"You do not cherish your little realm, do you?" Her voice echoed unnaturally, layered with something far older than sound.

His knees buckled and dropped to the ground instantly, forehead pressing against the bloodstained stone.

"You clawed your way into the Drakonis Realm through marriage," she continued, her tone sharpening,

"And yet you still hunger for more. Why must it end with Lumina?"

His breath came in ragged gasps.

"High Priestess... I do not understand. Perhaps we can.." The word never finished forming before her hand flicked.

The entire hall shook violently, as it raced across the floor like lightning. Pillars groaned as though about to collapse.

"No," she cut him off. "You cannot."

Her eyes narrowed. "You do not wish to lose your life so early, do you?"

She gestured toward the corpse beside him. The blood seeped closer, warm, unmistakable.

The King’s fists clenched. Slowly, painfully, he bowed lower, pressing his forehead harder against the stone.

"Your fight is with the King," she rasped. "Not her."

"I am sorry I didn’t r know she is that important to you." Seraphina studied him for a long moment.

Then her lips curved, in a warning way.

"You will not repeat it," she corrected. "And if you ever dare cross her path again, I will ensure your realm cries for centuries."

At once her presence vanished.

Light collapsed inward, leaving behind only ruin and silence.

The King remained kneeling long after she disappeared. When he finally lifted his head, a smile crept across his lips.

His gaze dropped to the lifeless body sprawled nearby.

"I will make you pay for this," he whispered. "And it will be through her life. Is she not precious to you?"

Footsteps approached from the side of the gall, the man’s posture rigid, eyes flicking nervously to the destruction around him.

"Your Highness." he greeted one could see he was the king’s aide.

"Dispose of his body," the King ordered calmly. "And tell me. How are Rhynera and the child?"

The man hesitated before he finally spoke, "Your Highness..."

"I asked a question." The King’s voice sharpened.

"There is no reason for you to withhold the answer I desire."

The man swallowed, nodding. "Lady Rhynera improves. Her hands heal slowly but unnaturally slowly."

The King rolled his eyes and reached into his sleeve, producing a small vial filled with shimmering ointment.

"Send this to her. Inform her she should not worry. I will avenge her."

The aide accepted it reluctantly.

"And my little sister?" the King continued.

The man shifted. "Reports claim the prince did not spend the night with her. He remained with his wife. It is also rumored that PrincessLumina injured Lady Rhynera and called it punishment for her."

A low chuckle escaped the King.

"She is not as plain as she pretends to be," he mused. "I will play games with her soon."

The aide bowed deeply. "You may rest assured, Your Highness."

"You may leave."

The man turned and exited quickly.

Then the shadows stirred again and a figure emerged behind the throne, kneeling immediately.

"Kill her," the King commanded.

The figure stiffened. "That would cause a great rift."

"The poison acts too slowly," the King replied coolly. "Attack her. Kill her. Only then can my plans move smoothly. She intruded from the beginning. When she dies, my little one will finally have Ashen."

The figure bowed. "Then it will be done."

As the assassin turned to leave, the King lifted a finger.

"One more thing. Investigate the woman from Abyssland. Discover why Alexis chose her instead of my sister."

The figure bowed once more and vanished.
