Married To The Enemy Kingdom's Illegitimate Prince-Chapter 115 — Possessed
Chapter 115: 115 — Possessed
Violet light glowed, and Cynthia and Lucian found themselves standing before their destination. Instead of looking ahead, Lucian’s gaze lingered on Cynthia, who appeared far calmer than usual. She had barely spoken to him, except when urging him to use teleportation.
"The king ordered the task to be executed as soon as possible. I trust you do not wish to disobey him," she had said.
Faced with her words, Lucian found nothing to counter her statement. Reluctantly, he agreed to her request, which felt more like a command.
His thoughts drifted as he recalled her expression the day before. Though it had seemed troubling, she hadn’t spoken to him about it, even when he brought it up during dinner and breakfast. Her silence only deepened his curiosity.
"Your Highness," Cynthia said, glancing at him. "We should move forward. There’s smoke rising over there. We might find people who can tell us what’s happening."
Lucian nodded and turned, signalling his knights to follow.
With swords in hand, the group moved closer to the village, leaving the tranquil waters of Lyac Lake behind.
Once they reached the village, a low gasp escaped everyone at what they were witnessing. The village houses were broken, its walls fallen on the group like mere pieces of rocks. The smoke Cynthia had seen didn’t come from a fireplace, but a human-shaped body, which seemed to have been burned. Blood-red liquid flooded the place as if it were a river of not water but blood. Bodies lay on the ground, motionless.
"W-We’ve arrived too late..." Glain whispered next to Lucian’s ear.
Familiar with the scene before him, Lucian stepped closer, the flashback of his past ten years on the battlefield rushing in his mind. It was no different than the battleground, sending chills down his spine. The scene he had left behind seemed to have followed him here as well.
"Wait a minute!" Cynthia grabbed Lucian’s hand, stopping him from stepping further.
"There is someone left," she whispered, her gaze searching for something.
"What are you saying, Your Highness? His Highness agreed to bring you, but it does not mean we will listen to your baseless words! The whole village has been wiped out! Can you not see?" Dylan shirked, huffing in rage.
"Be respectful," Adrian glared at the blond man, shaking his head in disapproval.
"But!"
"Enough," Lucian interrupted, glancing towards Cynthia, giving her his full attention. "I am listening."
"I sense something around here. It is surely alive, but... we simply need to find it," she said, her gaze still, unwavering.
With a nod, Lucian waved his hand at his knights to begin their search.
Cynthia began searching as well, closing her eyes at times, sensing the energy rather than trying to find it with her eyes. It was the same feeling she felt when Lucian was attacked in the forest by a strange human-formed demon. She knew that soon, demons would shift their forms into human ones but she still couldn’t wrap her mind around which way would they use to do so.
"Your Highness! There’s someone alive here!" A knight shouted.
Upon hearing the statement, everyone rushed toward the voice.
A man lay on the ground, growling like a monster. He scratched his nails on the ground as if digging for something while he mumbled words no one could comprehend.
"Perhaps they are speaking another language."
"No," Cynthia spoke. This is the point where Eldoria and Selvays share a river, and Lyac Lake is where the water flows too. There could only be two languages the people of here can speak– Selvarian’s or Eldorian’s. And I guarantee it is not the latter."
"A monster," she whispered, sensing a strange energy coming from the man on the ground.
"Step away!"
Ignoring the grand duchess’ warning, the knights began approaching the man, offering him help. After all, his legs were bleeding as if they were pierced by a demon’s claw.
Just as Dylan extended his hand to the man to help him stand, the man jumped on him, growling in a louder voice.
"AHH! HELP!"
Adrian bounced on the man, slashing him in two in the blink of an eye.
Blood splashed all over Dylan, who lay on the ground, blinking in shock.
"You should keep aside your personal feelings and listen to others," Adrian sighed, extending his hand to help Dylan up.
Lowering his head slightly, the blonde-haired young man jumped on his feet on his own without saying a word.
Shaking his head in disagreement, Lucian stepped before Dylan, his arms crossed.
"I believe she has proved that she will not be a burden to us when she helped us defeat that monster in the marketplace. And even if she were a burden, she is mine to take care of. She is my wife. You just need to respect her as the grand duchess and give her words as much importance as you give to mine."
"Your Highness, you might want to take a look at this," Cynthia, who was too focused on the body fallen on the soil to hear what Lucian had just said, said.
With a nod, the dark-haired young man stepped closer to the body his subordinate had just killed.
"What is it? I do not see anything strange about it."
Cynthia narrowed her eyes, confused. It was clear to her that something about this person was not human. However, she couldn’t wrap her mind around what could be different. She bent down, examining the corpse closely. Her hands traced over the cold body, finding a democore in his shirt’s pocket.
A gasp escaped her upon remembering an extremely vague voice.
"Demons. They have no forms. But they can take any form."
She didn’t remember who said those phrases, but they echoed in her mind as if that were the answer to her questions.
Thinking further, she looked around once more, finding more traces of large footprints on the mud a demon could leave behind after attacking the whole village.
Unless...
"What are your thoughts?"
Cynthia turned her gaze, looking at Lucian.
"I believe... This person was possessed, Your Highness," she managed to say, hesitantly.
Would he even believe my words?
She mused. After all, it would not surprise her if he did not. He never trusted her words in the past either.
I need to think of something to make him believe me...
She glanced around, wondering if she could find something that could prove her observations apart from the democore she had just found.
