Chapter 140: Halfling’s obsession

She tightened her grip on Sage’s neck, her bloodied and saliva covered teeth on display.

Soon, a dark green mist began to evaporate from Sage’s neck and mixed with the glowing lava veins visible on her neck, turning them into glowing bright green.

Sage’s blood flow was immediately cut off, and she passed out while still standing due to Jestia’s newfound control over her.

Jestia let go of her neck and extended her arm towards Sage’s face, and liquid fire began to pour out of Sage’s hands as soon as Jestia relaxed her hand on Sage’s forehead.

Jestia’s eyes twinkled with delight as she saw her efforts bear fruit.

"You can not get away now, dearie," Jestia laughed, removing her hand. "I can not do it here and alone; I will have to return to the portal. I will undoubtedly require the assistance of others in this matter." She added thoughtfully and blasted Sage, who was immediately covered in dark green mist and lifted off the ground.

Meanwhile, Ashton was attempting to awaken Cyrus in any way he could, but nothing was working.

"Did this moron return to hell?" Ashton inquired, his voice deep and growling.

"Did he really?" He asked again, this time in hushed tones, and frowned deeply.

"Wake up!" He yelled and raised his head, ready to slap Cyrus, when Cyrus was instantly enveloped in a bright glow.

As the glow grew brighter, Ashton stood up and moved away, his eyes wide open.

Cyrus was standing and completely dark when the glow faded.

His clothes were soaked in blood, but his injury had healed.

He narrowed his blue slit eyes at Ashton, who was now wearing a deep frown of complete displeasure.

"That frown does not suit you." Cyrus stated bluntly.

"I will never forgive you for this." Ashton growled.

"Meet me back on the castle." Cyrus said curtly, and powerful silver dragon wings appeared from behind him.

Sapphire scales could be seen at the tips of his wings.

Ashton’s frown deepened as he watched Cyrus lift off the ground and let out a long sigh before joining Katherine in fighting off the statkus mages.

Just as Jestia was about to leave with Sage, Cyrus appeared and hugged her tightly before flying away into the sky and disappearing into the clouds.

Jestia screamed in frustration and vanished, while the remaining dragons transformed and burned all the statkus.

While the action was being carried out, Ashton noticed that Stefan was nowhere to be found and began searching in a panic.

He eventually found Stefan unconscious, and he was developing unusually dry skin, much like the statkus mages.

"Oh no!" With a whisper, Ashton snatched Stefan into his arms. "He must have gotten stabbed by those repulsive creatures." He growled through his teeth.

After ensuring that all of the statkus mages present were eliminated, the dragons vanished into the clouds, and Ashton’s wings burst open and he flew away.

Miracle, Arthur, River, Katherine, and Victor were the only ones present when River reverted to his human form.

He dashed over to Katherine, who was startled and hid behind tired Arthur.

River came to a halt, puzzled, and stared murderously at Arthur. "Arthur, what on hell is going on?" River enragedly inquired.

Arthur, who was perplexed by what was going on, responded. "I have no idea, your highness." Then he laughed.

Katherine dashed up to Mirabella and grabbed her wrist. "Please get me out of here now." She whispered and Mirabella nodded.

She transformed into a black dragon, Katherine jumped onto her back, and River, his jaw dropped in confusion, watched Mirabella fly away and disappear into the clouds.

"What on hell just happened?!" He exclaimed.

...

Darren walked into the woods with a long face. The cold was becoming so intense that the coat he was wearing wasn’t keeping him warm.

He sighed and sat on a large rock, digging his fingers into his hair in frustration.

He had no idea he was a halfling, having spent his entire life believing he was a water mage. He spent his childhood in an orphanage. He had no idea until Sage somehow, revealed his true identity.

"Half statkus mage half water mage?" Darren shrugged and sighed deeply as he remembered what he saw on the battlefield, how those creatures resembled living corpses.

Darren’s heart was pounding. He missed his home and his friends; he felt alone and empty, but his heart was primarily filled with vengeance.

For him, time flew by.

One minute ago, he was fighting dragons with Sage and Katherine, celebrating festivals with them, and the next minute, he was a halfling, alone in the world.

He grimaced in pain, clenching his fists and exposing his veins.

"I feel cursed, extremely cursed." In disbelief, he muttered and shook his head.

He wanted to be happy, and he was going insane trying to find happiness.

Suddenly, four grey-hooded people appeared in front of him, causing him to gasp and stand up.

"What exactly are you all doing here?" He inquired, then frowned. "You all abandoned me."

"We left because we believed it would be better to accompany her." said one of them.

"What is going on with your eyes? They look awfully... dead." One of them spoke with complete suspicion.

"Are you all better now? Do you have any special abilities?" Another person inquired.

Darren sighed deeply before smirking. "Do not worry, just show me how to get back to the castle. I have unfinished business to attend to."

"Is it wise to return?" One of them inquired.

"Believe me when I say it is. That ice dragon took everything from me, and I intend to reclaim everything from him, but first I must determine what I can do with this newly discovered origin of mine." Darren spoke proudly.

"Newly discovered origin?" One of the hooded individuals inquired, perplexed.

"Fortunately, yes," he replied, laughing heartily. "I will be stronger than him, I will make him fall to his knees and beg me to return my Sage. She is mine and no one else’s."

"Unrequited love, how sad." Cyrus’ voice echoed in his head and he let out a deep growl of rage.

"If he goes insane, I am leaving." One of the hooded person who was clearly a female said with a scoff.
