Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 205: Bad tension
The hostile tension made the dinning room’s atmosphere heavy and threatening. Sage could feel Cyrus’ rage growing with each word he said and each word River said. She didn’t know how to calm him down, and when she looked at Ashton with the expectation that he would stop them bickering as they were, she wasn’t surprised to see him look extremely amused while eating, as if he were watching an action play.
She sighed, and her gaze met Katherine’s, who appeared to be as conflicted as she was.
Of course, she didn’t know what to do because, aside from what happened last night, something brutal had occurred between them. Especially given Cyrus’ dark state, what could have happened to make River dislike him so much?
"Virus?" Cyrus exclaimed in disbelief, then burst out laughing. "That rhymes with Cyrus doesn’t it?"
Sage’s eyes widened as she moved her gaze to him, sensing the dark aura emitted by him. She swallowed hard as she saw those blue slit eyes flash with pure black. "Cyrus," she gasped, standing up and grabbing his arm.
"River!" Katherine exclaimed in surprise and stood up.
"It would be ideal if you did not interfere, ladies." Ashton chuckled as he told Sage and Katherine.
Sage glared at him, her fiery red eyes flashing, eliciting an amused smirk from him. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
She returned Cyrus’s gaze while tugging on his arm. "Ignore him." She told him she hoped he would calm down, and she was relieved because she could tell he was trying hard to control his anger.
"Why? Why are you preventing yourself from hitting me? You have never done it before, so why now?" River yelled angrily, then turned to face Sage, who was now staring at him. "Is it because of you?" In disbelief, he inquired. "You successfully tamed him." He continued with a scoff.
"River, stop it." Katherine grabbed his coat and made him look at her. "Stop it!" She yelled her displeasure at him.
River’s eyes widened as he saw her expression, and his rage vanished.
"Do not accompany me." Cyrus said unexpectedly to Sage, jerked away from her, and vanished before she could react.
"Cyrus!" She called out, surprised. Her heart clenched as she could still felt his rage. She put her hand on her chest and closed her eyes, attempting to keep herself from being affected by his rage.
It was very possible.
Katherine and River turned to look at her. "Damn! I almost completely forgot about the soulbond." River sighed deeply and muttered regretfully.
"Soulbond?" Katherine asked, perplexed, then frowned at River and moved away from her chair, hoping to meet Sage, but Ashton unexpectedly appeared in front of her, flashing a horrifying smile that made her yelp.
"Shuu, I will take over from here." He winked at her and whispered.
Katherine swallowed hard and nodded slowly before exiting the dining room without looking at River.
"Psh! You have no idea how hard he is trying not to break into your skull." Ashton scoffed at River, who was staring at Sage, who had her hand on his chest and her eyes closed shut, as if she was trying to suppress pain. "I assumed you were aware of how strong his negative emotions are in this state, but it turns out you are too distracted by your own rage to notice what is going on around you. I have always tried to explain, but you never seem to get it, do you?"
"There you are, always there for him." River mumbled, his gaze fixed on Sage. "I am not going to apologize to him." He then turned away and exited the dining room.
Ashton smirked and turned to face Sage, then walked over to her, pulled out a chair for her, and took her seat. "Take a deep breath and remove your thoughts from him for a little while." He told her calmly as he drew a chair and sat across from her.
Sage blinked her eyes open, exhaled deeply, and took her hand away from her chest. "Thank you." She stood up, whispering. "I will go find him right now."
"Sit down, my queen, there is no rush," Ashton chuckled, and Sage looked at him suspiciously before hesitantly taking a seat.
"Why don’t you stop them? They would have gotten into a huge fight if I and Cyrus hadn’t been soulbonded." Sage was irritated and angry that instead of stopping them, he appeared to be entertained by their bickering.
"Those two are supposed to be mortal enemies, but they have an enormous bond capable of putting an end to the war between Antica and Fireria." Ashton appeared out of nowhere with a gentle smile that piqued everyone’s interest.
"However, Cyrus’ dark state and River are... adversaries." Sage spoke slowly.
"They have always been adversaries. Draco has transformed into a butterfly, much like a caterpillar, and you are the one who broke the cacoon." Sage couldn’t believe the creepy demon could ever smile this gentle and neatly at her. "Do you understand what it means to have an eternally frozen heart and to act solely on negative emotions? Draco has changed drastically as a result of his love for you."
"Does this imply that Cyrus has seriously harmed River?" Sage inquired, her eyes wide with interest.
"Hmm." Sage blinked, chewing her lower lip slowly as Ashton nodded slowly.
...
Meanwhile, Cyrus sat on the mansion’s roof with a dull expression, staring at the grey clouded sky. He’d calmed down a little, but he still needed some time with the slight fear of losing it.
His fists were tight, his breathing was harsh, and snow began to fall from the sky as he closed his eyes. The urge to strangle River was in him but his dear friend wasn’t weak and would surely fight back if he tried.
"Draco!" From below, a familiar, enraged voice called out.
Cyrus narrowed his eyes at River, who stood on the ground with a blank expression on his face.
Their stares became dangerously close, and hostility filled the air between them.
