Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 233: Gone?
"I’m hungry." Tamara mumbled as Cyrus carefully placed her on the chair next to the fire place.
"You’ll be eating soon." He held her ankle to see the stabbed area. It was deep and disgustingly dry. He scoffed in astonishment, remembering how swiftly she was running earlier. Did she not feel the pain?
"Does it hurt?"
"Hmm mm. It does." He sighed softly and patted her head as she nodded eagerly.
"Why don’t you cry then?"
"Crying didn’t bring mama back." The little girl replied with an innocent face, but her voice was filled with sadness.
Cyrus sighed. She’d felt pain worse than being stabbed by a statkus mage.
How remorseful.
He stepped away from the little girl, out of the sitting room, and when he returned, he had the antidote, which he presented to her and she curiously accepted.
"Eat." He replied firmly, and she put it in her mouth, clutching her face in disgust at the sour flavor.
Cyrus remembered his early days with Sage, when he used to scare her with having to bear his child. It was merely a threat. Cyrus had never pictured himself as a father. To be honest, he didn’t want to be a father, but he knew it was something he couldn’t escape.
"It’s time to go to bed."
Tamara nodded and sat down on the couch, cuddling up and closing her eyes. Cyrus softly smiled at her dutiful demeanor. She was such a sweet little girl.
At that very time, Venus and Ares entered the room, their fur as white as snow, reminding Cyrus of Snowflake. Where had that fox gone?
"Keep an eye on her; I need to go back there." He remarked to the demon panthers, who exchanged glances before shifting their gazes to the sleeping small child.
"Where is the Snow?" He furrowed his brow at the panthers. That nine-tailed fox had been missing ever since he ate the ice god’s fingers.
Cyrus let out a sigh. He had to return to Sage.
"You sh.."
Suddenly, a sonic sound exploded into his eardrums, and he gruntedly shielded his ears with his hands. At that same time, intense pain seized him, causing him to scream in agony. He collapsed to the ground, unable to bear the torture, and succumbed to the darkness.
....
Back at the ashed ground, which was formerly a town that had now been burned to the ground, everyone had their gaze fixed on the massive hole in the soil. The temperature had plummeted dangerously, and the sky was darker than normal, thickening with black and grey.
River fought to drag Katherine away from the hole while she screamed and kicked. "Sage! No stop! NO! Let go of me!" Even though River had her in his arms, Katherine continued to scream, and she struggled as well.
Katherine didn’t want to believe what had happened and what she had seen, but she couldn’t stop her tears, her emotions, or her anxieties.
She kept convincing herself that Sage was still alive! Sage would never abandon her so abruptly!
"River, stop! River let go of me! Please!" She shouted, trying to break free from his clutches, but he was stronger.
"Katherine, calm down!" He elevated his voice in the hopes of soothing her, but it only made her scream louder as she fought to break free from his firm grip.
River’s heart was pounding. He, too, couldn’t believe what had just occurred. The fire mage was just over there, fully awake and visible. She was even smiling.
Katherine kept screaming, kicking, and weeping, and his heart tightened. Her body jerked violently in his arms, and her suffering was palpable.
Fear gripped a large part of him when the temperature dropped even lower than it had already.
Cyrus... That ice dragon would annihilate Antica with his own hands. Sage’s death would surely activate his demonic state.
The ice gods wanted to destroy Antica, but Cyrus undoubtedly would do it first.
No!
River had to act or Cyrus would come to regret his deeds.
He moved his gaze to Reagan, Darius, and Mihai, who were frozen in place, their gaze fixated on the gaping hole.
"Reagan," River called, and the shadow dragon gave him a stiff look.
"I recommend you return to the mansion." River murmured, still clutching Katherine, who was screaming and struggling incessantly.
Reagan gave a nod. Without saying anything, he and the chief warriors changed into dragons and flew away, disappearing into those foreboding clouds.
"River, please! Let go of me!" Katherine wailed again, and River snapped.
He yanked her shoulders back and pushed her to face him. Her eyes were moist and filled with pain, her face was wet with tears, and some of her strands were already stuck to her cheek.
River’s chest tightened. "Kath..."
"There is no body! She’s has to be alive!" Katherine cut him off and grabbed the collar of his coat. "Please tell me she’s alive! She can’t possibly be gone like that!"
River’s lips parted, but not a word escaped his lips. Suddenly, he frowned deeply, released her, and moved away from her, his golden reptile-like eyes flashing brightly.
He instantly shifted into his dragon form, and Katherine took note of what was about to happen. She started sprinting towards the hole, only for River to lift off the ground, carry her in his arms, and fly away into the sky, her angry scream trailing behind.
.
Mirabella approached the massive hole that had been severely cracked by lightning? Was it actually lightning?
Stefan stood behind her, unblinkingly staring at the hole.
"S.. sage?" His voice broke.
"My lady," Victor called from behind her.
"Round up the mages to Leimpia." Mirabella ordered, her voice low and unsteady.
Victor lowered his head gently and stared at Arthur, who was frozen in place on the other side of the big hole in the earth. The vision of Sage in his mind made Arthur’s hands tremble. He couldn’t believe what had just happened! He couldn’t take it in!
Victor didn’t bother calling Arthur; instead, he sighed heavily and walked away, retreating into the forest to meet the mages.
"I... is her majesty gone?" Kion inquired hesitantly. His eyes were wide with surprise.
"We should go back." Arthur mumbled emotionlessly and turned away.
Mirabella was about to leave the hole when she noticed something deep within it. It was a tiny, fiery sparkle. Just one, but it vanished without a trace.
She blinked and sighed, unsure how to react to what she had just witnessed.
"Let’s go."
"Don’t." Stefan eventually spoke, his voice clear, his gaze fixed on the hole.
Mirabella and Arthur came to a halt, shifting their sight to Stefan, whose eyes had transformed into their purple reptile-like appearance. Sharp and menacing.
"Stefan," Mirabella exclaimed, realizing something was wrong with him. "She’s alive, so where are you going?" Stefan inquired, his voice rigid, deep, and foreboding.
Mirabella let out a sigh and pushed her hair back. She was becoming impacted by the cold and needed fire, but she was still in deep sadness.
Seeing Stefan in this state reminded her of Cyrus.
"Oh no!" Mirabella’s eyes widened and she turned to Arthur, who was staring at Stefan, who was on the edge of breaking down. "Cyrus."
Arthur stared at Mirabella, nodded, and morphed into his dragon. He took off without looking back, leaving Mirabella with Stefan.
"Do you believe she is dead?" Stefan inquired, turning his glance to Mirabella. Mirabella swallowed a knot in her throat as a result of his disconcerting stare.
"Stefan.."
"She was just standing there."
"I.."
"She isn’t dead. She most likely teleported elsewhere." Stefan talked with assurance, but Mirabella knew he was going through the denial stage of grieving.
She wasn’t sure because she couldn’t add anything up. She couldn’t concentrate at all, especially since the temperature was decreasing. It only reminded her of Cyrus. Only he was capable of accomplishing this.
"Stefan.."
"You think she’s dead, don’t you?" Stefan raised his brow.
"You know I didn’t say anything. I don’t want to jump to conclusions; all I want is for you to calm down." Mirabella spoke quietly to assuage his grief. But she knew she wasn’t up to the task. She, too, was bereaved. Was Sage truly gone? Just like that?
"Conclusions? Conclusions?!" Stefan eventually snapped and yanked Mirabella by the throat. "How dare you tell me to calm down?! You witnessed it yourself! You watched her vanish! You must have heard her cry!"
Mirabella gagged, unable to fight or struggle because of the cold.
"Stop!" Kion yelled and jumped into the scene, attempting to grab Stefan’s hand, but Stefan punched him hard in the abdomen while still holding Mirabella.
Kion dropped to the ground immediately, and Stefan lifted Mirabella from the ground, staring at her like an insane beast.
His eyes were black and void. Only a dragon with a dark heart could react in this way.
Mirabella could feel it, Stefan was about to break Mirabella’s neck. She trembled slightly in his grip, and just as her vision blurred, she felt a strong hand seize Stefan’s wrist, and gazing at the person, she saw a furious Ashton.
Stefan let go of her and she fell into darkness just as Ashton grabbed her by throwing his arms around her waist and pulling her head to his chest.
