Chapter 249: I love you

Song recommendation: War Of Hearts By Ruelle

*Present*

Sage held up the flare, her chest heaving with anticipation, as she awaited Cyrus’s response. But he just stood there, his eyes fixed on her with a horrified expression.

She swallowed hard, her gaze unwavering. "That’s your plan, isn’t it? To kill me, and then take your own life as well."

Cyrus blinked, shaking his head, his voice barely audible. "You..."

"Why do you want to spill my blood so desperately?! You’ll only be more broken, more damned, with no justification to excuse your actions! You have no reason to kill me! You could just take the fire core and leave, but no, you’d rather slaughter me, even when it’s within your grasp. It’s nothing but a senseless, bloodthirsty desire!"

Cyrus frowned. And in a blink of an eye, he was standing very close to her. He grasped her neck, his grip tight, yet she showed no signs of discomfort, her eyes locked onto his with insane determination that gave him chills.

"From the very beginning, you sought my fire core to revive the ice dragons, trapped in eternal frost, and to end the eternal winter that has consumed the world," she whispered, tears welling up in her eyes.

Cyrus’s eyes widened, his pupils dilating in shock. His gaze trembled, his voice barely audible. "H... how... do you know?"

Sage smiled, feeling his grip tighten around her neck. "You had one goal in mind, but then you fell for me, and your demon state took over, refusing to let go of that desire."

Cyrus’s eyes blazed with anger, his grip on her neck tightening as he snarled, "Enough!" But Sage was ready, making the flare disappear and simultaneously unleashing a blast of energy that sent Cyrus flying back.

He grunted, his hands still aglow with ice blue energy, but Sage was also affected by the pain, dropping to her knees as she struggled to breathe. "That... was a bad idea,"

Cyrus charged towards her once more, but Sage’s body erupted in a fierce blaze of fire, forcing him to conjure an ice shield to deflect the flames. The impact sent him stumbling back, his shield shattering into shards of ice.

As he regained his footing, dark wisps began to seep from his body.

Sage stood tall, her breathing labored, her eyes fixed on her husband and she couldn’t help but laugh. "It’s best to stick with bad ideas for now," she muttered to herself, her mind racing with the realization that she was running out of options, her thoughts scrambling for a new plan.

Sage suddenly sprinted towards Cyrus, catching him off guard. He froze, unsure how to react, as she wrapped her arms around him, holding him tightly. Her face was buried in his chest, and for a moment, they stood there, locked in a warm embrace.

Then, in a flash of white fur, Snowflake appeared, and the three of them vanished into thin air, leaving Anghel and Aiden staring at the empty field in stunned disbelief.

The only trace left behind was a faint hint of fire and ice, a reminder of the tumultuous encounter that had just transpired.

....

Cyrus and Sage materialized in mid-air, plummeting down the side of a towering mountain in Videnia. The biting wind howled around them, and the landscape stretched out in a vast expanse of rugged peaks, with no safety net in sight.

Cyrus’s mind raced, struggling to comprehend the situation, as Sage clung to him with a desperate grip. He attempted to teleport, but his powers failed him, courtesy of Snowflake’s interference.

Panic set in as he realized they were at the mercy of gravity, with no escape.

They were falling....

She was hugging him tightly...

He could feel her trembling... She was terrified....

"No...." He groaned, his eyes shut tight in despair.

"Cyrus..." Sage whimpered, her voice heavy with great fear. But before she could utter another word, Cyrus’s eyes snapped open, and his body began to transform.

Feeling a harsh sting, she let go of him. Watching....

His scales shimmered into a brilliant silver reptilian form, and then, in a burst of radiant light, he took on the majestic shape of an ice white dragon.

Sage’s eyes widened in awe, tears streaming down her face as she gazed at the breathtaking sight.

With a triumphant smile, she whispered, "I did it!" Even as she continued to plummet towards the ground, her fate was temporarily forgotten in the face of Cyrus’s magnificent transformation.

Cyrus rushed after her, grabbing her and flying straight to the field of dragon statues.

Landing in the middle of the field, Sage took a step away from him, watching him with a smile as he lowered his head at her.

"I love you." She placed her hand on his head, laughing as he closed his eyes.

Cyrus took on his human form, and walked towards her, putting his hand on her cheek and staring at her longingly.

"I love you." He leaned in, rubbing his nose against hers. "That was dangerous."

Sage smiled. "I know." she grasped Cyrus’s coat, her tears finally finding release. "I know!"

Cyrus swallowed hard, tears flowing out of his eyes. Instantly, he dropped on his knees, lowering his head. His souls were now merged into one. Yet he couldn’t imagine. What if he killed her... His own wife... The love of his life...

"I’m sorry... I wasn’t strong enough!" he sobbed, his body shaking.

"No... No.." Sage went on her knees, hugging him tightly. A hug that he returned.

He sobbed and she let him, patting his back gently.

A soft smile spread across her face as she reveled in their tender moment. She was grateful that they were together like this....and Snowflake’s unexpected intervention....

Her initial plan had been to teleport them to Videnia, but Cyrus’s evasive tactics might have foiled that.

Instead, Snowflake’s actions had brought them together in a beautiful way. Gently, she stroked Cyrus’s hair, her eyes closing as her heart swelled with peace and relief.
