Marrying His Nemesis: Kicking My Scumbag Fiancé Away!-Chapter 130: Forgot the Marriage Certificate (Part 2)
The two bailiffs, without further ado, dragged Caleb Thorne away.
"Brother!"
Seraphina Thorne tried to rush forward again, but Ethan Sterling held her tightly.
As Caleb Thorne was dragged towards the exit, he turned his face to look at Ethan Sterling, who was holding Seraphina. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"If you dare to harm my sister, when I get out of prison, you will be the first I won’t let go."
"Let’s go!"
The two bailiffs held onto Caleb Thorne and walked briskly out of the courtroom.
She had come full of hope, thinking this time she could successfully help her brother overturn the case and bring him back to see their father.
Who could have imagined it would turn out like this?
How could she explain this to their father?
As she watched her brother being taken away once more, Seraphina turned her face, grabbed Ethan Sterling’s shirt, buried her face in his chest, and started to sob quietly.
"Don’t worry, everything will be fine." Ethan Sterling reached over and comfortingly patted her back, "Adrian Chamberlain playing this move is actually a good sign. It means... we’ll definitely win next time!
Nathan Foster withdrew his gaze, noticing Ethan Sterling and Seraphina Thorne not far away.
He raised his hand to gesture his assistant to remain silent and himself stood nearby without moving.
After a while, Seraphina finally controlled her emotions and lifted her face from Ethan Sterling’s embrace.
Noticing the dark tear stains on his shirt, she realized what she had just done.
"Sorry... I’m..."
"It’s okay." Ethan Sterling smiled, "After all, it’s not the first time."
Seraphina blushed and smiled slightly, her dejected mood lifting a little.
"Ahem!" Nathan Foster cleared his throat, "Ethan, I’m going to the hospital to check on Adrian Chamberlain. Seraphina, I’ll trouble you to take her back, there might still be a lot of people outside, don’t let her get into trouble."
Ethan Sterling nodded, "I understand, don’t worry."
Waving to his assistant, Nathan Foster hurriedly left.
Ethan Sterling said a few words to Sean Hale, then turned to face Seraphina.
"Put on your mask, I’ll take you out."
As Seraphina usually kept a mask with her due to respiratory allergies in autumn and winter, she took it out from her bag and put it on.
Ethan Sterling glanced at her up and down, lifted both hands to straighten up her coat collar, and untied her scarf to wrap her snugly.
"Let’s go!"
Sean Hale walked ahead as Ethan Sterling and Seraphina Thorne walked side by side.
When the three walked out of the courthouse doors, the buyers outside had indeed not left yet.
Not knowing that Caleb Thorne’s case had been suspended midway, the buyers were still waiting for the verdict.
Ethan Sterling put his arm around Seraphina’s shoulder and whispered a reminder.
"Lower your head, lean on me."
Seraphina knew that in this situation, if these people started causing a scene, she wouldn’t be able to leave safely. She obediently lowered her head and leaned on Ethan Sterling.
With the protection of Ethan Sterling and Sean Hale, she quickly walked down the steps.
The three of them smoothly exited the courthouse and reached the parking lot.
An observant buyer recognized Ethan Sterling as the one who had just escorted Seraphina Thorne and immediately pointed a finger.
"Quick, that’s the eldest daughter of the Thorne Family!"
"Stop her, don’t let her get away!"
"Give us back our hard-earned money!"
...
The crowd immediately swarmed forward.
Ethan Sterling grabbed Seraphina’s arm, pulling her, they rushed into the parking lot.
Sean Hale turned around and helped the two of them block the crowd chasing after them.
"Everyone, calm down, this is the courthouse. If you cause trouble, none of you will get away."
"Get in the car!"
Pulling Seraphina into the parking lot, Ethan Sterling opened the car door and pushed her into the passenger seat, then quickly walked around the front of the car and sat into the driver’s seat.
Before the crowd could rush over, he pressed the accelerator, driving the Cullinan out of the parking lot and onto the road.
The excited crowd was left far behind.
Seraphina turned her face, watching those gradually distant figures, then turned her gaze back, her eyes landing on Ethan Sterling in the driver’s seat.
She naturally recalled that last time at the orchestra’s entrance.
When she was besieged by the crowd, it was Ethan Sterling who disregarded everything to save her so she could escape safely.
Thinking about these things, a slight heaviness settled in her chest, making it hard to breathe.
Seeing her remain silent all the while, Ethan Sterling worriedly turned to face her.
"Were you scared?"
"I’m fine!" Seraphina pulled down her mask, took a breath, and looked at the road ahead, "Find a corner to let me down, I’ll catch a cab back myself."
"I’ll drop you off, otherwise I won’t feel at ease."
"But... it’s too much trouble for you."
Ethan Sterling glanced sideways at her, tugged at the corners of his mouth, trying to keep his tone light.
"Even if we’re divorced, does that mean we can’t even be friends?"
Seraphina pursed her lips, unsure how to respond.
She couldn’t be as carefree as he was, easily switching their relationship to the "friends" setting.
But these words could no longer be spoken to him.
Seeing her silent, Ethan Sterling didn’t say anything further and just drove carefully.
His right foot, resting on the gas pedal, moved away several times.
The speed of the Cullinan slowed down bit by bit.
Glancing at the time on his wrist, Ethan Sterling cleared his throat gently.
"Do you have anything else planned for today?"
"I took the day off today." Seraphina thought he was referring to the divorce matter, "If you want to go to the Civil Affairs Bureau, I’m free today, but... I didn’t bring the marriage certificate."
"Then another day." Ethan Sterling exhaled a small sigh, "I didn’t bring mine either."
Seraphina had originally intended to say she could go back and get it.
Hearing he didn’t bring his, she felt it inappropriate to insist further.
The car returned to silence once more.
"How about getting something to eat together? I rushed out this morning and didn’t have breakfast." Ethan Sterling’s tone was teasing, "After all that chasing earlier, I’m really famished."
"Then..." Seraphina lifted her face, "let me treat you?"
Thinking about it, they’ve been together so long, she had never treated him to a meal.
"Alright," Ethan Sterling smiled, "I won’t stand on ceremony then."
Glancing at the roadside, Ethan Sterling stopped in front of a restaurant that was still open.
By now, breakfast was over, and lunch had yet to begin.
Inside the restaurant, there were no diners, and the female owner was dozing off behind the counter.
Seeing customers enter, she quickly ushered them to a table.
"What would the two of you like to eat?"
"She’d like a tray of custard buns and a bowl of red bean porridge with two spoons of sugar."
"He’d like a tray of soup dumplings and a bowl of wonton soup, no cilantro or green onions."
The two of them, in unison, named each other’s favorite breakfast.
Hearing each other’s voices, they simultaneously looked up from their menus, meeting the other’s gaze.
"You two are a loving couple," the female owner grinned and wiped the table, "Alright, coming right up, please wait a moment."
Hearing the term loving couple, the pair simultaneously lowered their heads, looking at their menus.
Afraid the other might see into their hearts through their eyes.
