Chapter 161: Chapter 161: Abortion?! (Part 1)

At eight in the morning, Seraphina Thorne arrived at the civil affairs bureau on time.

Looking around, she didn’t see Ethan Sterling, so she checked her watch.

Suddenly she remembered, she only told him "see you at the bureau," without specifying which one.

Seraphina hesitated, pondering whether to call Ethan, when her phone vibrated softly, receiving a WeChat message.

[Ethan Sterling: I’m waiting for you at the cafe across the street.]

Seraphina looked up at the street opposite, and sure enough, there was a cafe diagonally across.

Since it was morning, there weren’t many people in the cafe.

Seraphina stepped inside, immediately spotting Ethan sitting by the window.

Walking to his opposite side, she sat down sideways at the table.

The waiter came in with a tray, placing a steaming chocolate in front of her and a cup of black coffee opposite.

Afterwards, he brought over two sandwiches and two servings of fried eggs.

Looking at the familiar breakfast, Seraphina uneasily twisted her fingers.

Ethan took out the prepared divorce agreement from his bag and gently pushed it in front of her.

"I’ve already signed it, take a look to see if there are any issues."

Seraphina glanced at the divorce agreement, directly flipping to the last page to sign her name.

Even though they were about to get divorced, she still chose to trust him.

Watching her swiftly sign her name, Ethan lowered his eyelashes, the dense lashes hiding the gloom in his eyes.

"Let’s eat!"

Seraphina didn’t refuse, picked up the chocolate, and slowly took a sip.

"Is it good?" Ethan asked.

Seraphina tugged at the corner of her lips, "It’s okay."

Of course, she didn’t tell the truth.

Perhaps to save costs, the chocolate used in the cafe might not be pure enough, a bit too sweet, losing the rich aroma and thickness, not as good as what Ethan brewed.

After drinking less than a third, Seraphina lost interest.

Looking at Ethan stirring his coffee, not touching the sandwich at all, Seraphina put down her cup.

"Let’s go!"

These two words, rather than addressing Ethan, seemed more like she was speaking to herself.

Since things were settled, there was no point in delaying here.

Ethan put down his cup and stood up with her.

The two walked out of the cafe one after another, crossed the pedestrian path, and entered the civil affairs bureau.

Since it wasn’t a special day, there weren’t many people inside the bureau.

The windows for marriage and divorce were right next to each other.

Seeing them approach, the staff in charge of marriage looked up, "Congratulations to you both, have you taken your wedding photos?"

Seraphina smiled bitterly, "We’re here for a divorce."

The staff handling marriage procedures froze for a moment, a look of shock flashed across their eyes.

Seraphina stepped past the marriage window and stood at the nearby window for procedures, Ethan also stood beside her.

As the staff requested, they each took out their marriage certificates and related documents, along with the divorce agreement, and handed them over.

The staff took their documents, saw the marriage date on them, and frowned slightly.

"Barely married a few days, and you’re already divorcing, don’t be too hasty!"

"We’ve thought it through." Seraphina whispered, "Can you see if we need any other procedures?"

"No additional procedures are needed for now, but according to the marriage law, you have a one-month cooling-off period for divorce. If you still insist on divorcing after a month, then come back together to process the divorce."

"You mean we have to come again?"

Seraphina hadn’t expected divorce to be more troublesome than marriage.

"These are the legal regulations, we’re just following the rules." The staff looked them over, their gaze falling on Seraphina’s hand still wearing the ring, "I see... you haven’t really made up your mind. Use this month to calm down."

Noticing the staff’s gaze, Seraphina instinctively glanced at her left hand.

Only then did she remember that the wedding ring was still on her hand.

She felt inexplicably flustered, quickly pulled her hand back, and quietly removed the ring from her finger.

"Alright, then we’ll return in a month."

Thanking the staff, she turned around and briskly walked out of the service hall.

Seeing Ethan coming over, she raised her right hand, handing over the ring.

"Here... returning it to you."

Ethan lowered his face, gazing at the blue diamond ring in her palm.

After hesitating for a moment, he eventually reached out, gently pinching the ring.

"Where are you going, shall I give you a ride?"

"No need, I have some other matters, so... let’s keep in touch."

Turning around, she hurriedly left.

On the road, a deliveryman hurriedly drove past, Seraphina didn’t notice.

"Watch out!"

Ethan rushed over, pulling her to the roadside just before the electric bike hit her.

Her face hit his chest, feeling the familiar scent overwhelming her, she instinctively grabbed his coat collar.

Looking up, she met Ethan’s gaze.

Seraphina’s heart sank heavily.

Only at this moment did she finally realize that their several months of marriage were truly coming to an end.

In that instant, all strength and pretense were shattered.

An indescribable sadness filled her heart instantly.

Seraphina’s nose twitched, almost shedding tears.

Not wanting Ethan to notice her change, she hurriedly escaped from his embrace, rushed to the roadside, and hailed a taxi, sitting in the back seat.

Covering her tears with her hand, Seraphina’s tears silently fell down.

She had overestimated herself; she wasn’t as strong and carefree as she thought.

"Miss, where to?"

The driver’s voice sounded, Seraphina pulled out a tissue, wiping the corners of her eyes.

"The hospital, the nearest hospital."

The child in her belly couldn’t be kept, Seraphina didn’t want to trouble Ethan or let this matter cause extraneous complications.

She had already decided when she left in the morning.

After completing the divorce procedure, she would go to the hospital to have the child removed.

Having had previous experience, this time Seraphina directly chose a regular abortion.

After paying, she took the payment slip to the outpatient surgery room.

For the first time alone in her life.

She was inevitably nervous, pacing back and forth in the hallway.

A hand suddenly stretched over, resting on her shoulder.

"Seraphina, is it really you!"

Seraphina turned around in surprise and saw Chloe Foster standing behind her; she nervously folded the slip in her hand, hiding it behind her.

"Chloe, you... why are you here?"

"I came for a routine check-up." Chloe’s gaze fell on her somewhat pale face, "Are you sick?"

"Oh, no... not... yes... just a little cold." Seraphina stammered, trying to cover up.

Seeing her hesitating appearance, Chloe grew more worried, "What’s really wrong?"

"Nothing, I just... came to buy some medicine."

Just as Seraphina finished speaking, the outpatient surgery room’s door was pushed open by a doctor.

"Next!"

Chloe glanced toward the direction of the surgery room, "You’re having surgery?"

"I..." Seraphina shrunk her hand holding the slip behind her even more, "How could I, just here to get medicine, just passed by. I won’t talk much with you, I’ll go get my medicine first."

Afraid of being seen through by Chloe, Seraphina didn’t dare linger, she turned and quickly walked through the hallway and out of the hospital door.

Chloe raised her eyebrows in confusion.

Why is Seraphina acting so strangely today?

"Miss, your test slip fell!"

A passing nurse noticed the test slip beside Chloe, kindly reminding her.

"Oh, thank you!"

Chloe bent down to pick up the slip on the ground, seeing Seraphina’s name on it.

The test result had one simple word written—

"Pregnant."

Chloe stared at it, puzzled, furrowing her brow.

It’s just pregnancy, why was Seraphina stammering like that?

Could she think Chloe still has untoward intentions towards Ethan?!
