Chapter 161: Turning the Page

The morning sunlight spilled into the room.

It was a beautiful day, for the first time in years for Callian.

He sat at the dining table, sipping his coffee, reading the bold headline of the day’s newspaper:

-Mita Anand Found Dead in Apparent Accident.-

The accompanying photograph showed the mangled remains of a luxury car at the bottom of a steep ravine.

The article described how the accident occurred late last night, with Mita’s car veering off a winding road.

Authorities were investigating, but so far, it was being treated as an unfortunate accident.

Callian’s lips curved into a subtle smile as he set the newspaper down.

The woman who had caused so much pressure and pain was gone, her reign of terror was finally brought to an abrupt end.

Justice, it seemed, had finally found her, though not in the way anyone might have expected.

He didn’t feel grief, nor even relief—only a strange sense of finality.

Mita’s games were over, and with her absence came a chance for something new, something unburdened by her manipulations.

"You’re smiling."

Callian looked up, startled. Eira stood in the doorway, her arms crossed.

She was dressed casually, her hair looked loose, the sunlight caught the soft waves.

"Am I?" he asked, gesturing for her to come closer.

Eira walked toward him, her bare feet made no sound against the polished floor.

She glanced at the newspaper and raised an eyebrow. "Ah. That explains it."

"She’s gone," Callian said simply, pushing the paper toward her. "No more threats. No more chaos."

Eira’s eyes scanned the headline, and for a moment, her face was blank.

Then she sighed softly and looked up at him. "You think this changes everything?"

"It changes enough," he replied. freewēbnoveℓ.com

Eira moved closer, wrapping her arms around his shoulders from behind, resting her chin lightly on his shoulder.

"Maybe it does," she whispered. "Maybe now, it’s time for me to stop hiding."

Callian turned his head slightly, his dark eyes met hers. "You mean it?"

She nodded.

"Mita’s gone. She can’t hurt me—or anyone else—anymore. It’s time for me to step forward, to show the world where I really am."

"Where do you plan to do that?"

Eira smiled faintly, "I know just the place."

The sterile scent of disinfectant smelt heavily as Eira walked through the narrow corridor, flanked by a guard.

The place was so quiet, making her footsteps echo off the white tile floor.

Henry was already seated behind the glass, when Eira saw him, he had a drained face.

These weeks had not been kind to him.

His once rich and intimidating presence was now reduced to a shadow Eira could just walk by.

When his eyes met Eira’s through the glass, they widened with shock.

The guard motioned for Eira to sit.

She picked up the phone on her side of the glass and waited for Henry to do the same.

"Eira," he trembled. "You’re alive."

"Yes," she replied calmly. "I am."

Henry’s hand shook as he clutched the receiver. "I thought... I thought Konrad..."

"He tried," Eira said bluntly. "But like everyone else who underestimated me, he failed."

Henry looked down, shame went over his features. "Eira, I—"

"Don’t," she cut him off strictly. "I didn’t come here to hear your apologies. I’ve had enough of them to last a lifetime. I came here to talk about the future."

Henry’s brow furrowed in confusion. "The future?"

Eira leaned forward slightly.

"Yes. The businesses you left behind, the empire you built—I’m going to restore them. And then I’m going to combine them with the new one I’ve built."

Henry opened his mouth as if to argue, but no words came out.

He slumped back in his chair, and lowered his head.

He couldn’t argue.

Whatever Eira was going to do with it, it belonged to her and only her.

"I don’t need your approval," Eira continued. "You’re in here. You’ve lost everything. The least you can do is stay out of my way while I fix what you broke."

For a long moment, Henry said nothing.

Then he let out a long, shuddering breath. "I won’t stop you. I can’t. I... I’m just glad you’re alive."

Eira’s expression softened, but only slightly. "Why?"

"Because I thought I’d lost you forever," he mumbled in a cracking voice. "After everything I did to you, after what I did to your mother... I don’t deserve forgiveness."

"No," Eira replied confidently. "You don’t."

Henry’s shoulders sagged, and his eyes filled with tears.

"But," Eira added, and her tone shifted, "I’m going to forgive you anyway."

Henry looked up sharply.

His mouth opened again, but it froze...he furrowed his eyebrows and forced to ask her. "Why?"

"Because you’re powerless now," Eira said simply.

"You can’t hurt me anymore. And because forgiving you means I can finally let go of the anger and pain you caused me. It’s not about you, Henry. It’s about me."

Henry’s tears spilled over, his body shaking as he wept. "Eira, I... I don’t know what to say."

"There’s nothing you can say," Eira replied, standing. "Just stay alive. Stay here. Let me do what needs to be done."

As she turned to leave, Henry pressed his hand against the glass. "Eira."

She paused, looking back at him.

"Thank you," he whispered.

She didn’t respond, didn’t place her hand on the glass in return.

Instead, she gave him a small nod and walked away in silence.

As she stepped out into the sunlight, the whole pressure seemed to lift from her shoulders.

The past was still there, but it no longer defined her.

For the first time in years, the future felt like hers to shape.

There was much to do, and the journey ahead would not be easy. But Eira was ready.

This was her world now.

"Mother, if only you could be here...we did it...I made it..."

As tears started falling down her cheeks, a warm hug embraced her.

"Crying doesn’t suit my wife."

"Callian?" Eira looked up to see his eyes, "thank you...thank you for everything..." She muttered under her breath.

"I should be the one thanking you, Eira..."

"I love you, Callian."
