Chapter 84: Digging Deeper

The morning light filtered into the penthouse, soft and pale, doing little to lift the heavy air between

Eira and Callian.

What happened the previous day still stayed with them like a storm cloud.

Callian leaned against the kitchen counter, sipping his coffee, following Eira as she paced the living room, her arms folded tightly across her chest.

"We need to find out what really happened," Eira said finally.

"We will," Callian replied, setting his cup down. "But rushing into this without a plan isn’t going to get us anywhere."

Eira stopped mid-step and turned to face him. "She wouldn’t have done it, Callian. Marion was too strong. Someone made her do this. I know it."

Callian walked over to her, placing his hands on her shoulders. "I believe you, Eira. But we need to be smart about this. Whoever’s behind it isn’t going to make it easy to trace."

"Then where do we start?"

Callian sighed, thinking for a moment. "Henry’s assistant. He’s the one who runs everything behind the scenes for him. If Henry’s involved, his assistant will know something."

Eira frowned. "How do we get to him?"

Callian’s lips twitched into a faint smile. "We don’t. I do. He doesn’t know you, but he knows me—and he definitely doesn’t like me. I’ll make him slip."

Eira hesitated, but she nodded. "Fine. But if he gives you anything, we’ll follow up together."

Callian agreed with a slight tilt of his head. "Agreed. And while I handle that, you should look into Marion’s hospital records. Someone might’ve tampered with them, and if that’s the case, there’ll be a paper trail," Callian finished, his voice steady.

Eira nodded slowly, thinking through all the possibilities.

"Marion trusted her doctor. If someone got to her, it would have been through him or the staff. I’ll check the hospital records first and see what I can find."

"But, Eira, you need to promise me something."

"What?" freēwēbnovel.com

"That you’ll be careful," he stated. "No sudden confrontations, no diving headfirst into danger. I’m not losing you over this."

Eira softened for a moment. "I’ll be careful," she promised. "But we both know that being careful won’t get us all the answers."

Callian sighed but didn’t argue. "One step at a time," he said.

Eira turned toward the window, staring out at the city below.

The skyline was blurred by a soft haze, mirroring the difficult ocean in her mind. "Callian, I don’t want to just find out who did this. I want to keep destroying Henry."

Callian crossed his arms, leaning against the back of the couch. "I figured as much. What’s the plan?"

Eira turned back to him, keeping her eyes colder now, sharper.

"I want to turn everyone against him—piece by piece. His family, his allies, his business partners. I want them all to see him for who he really is. And when he’s completely alone... I’ll deliver the final blow."

Callian’s lips curled into a smirk. "You really are dangerous when you set your mind to something."

Eira didn’t smile back. "I’ve been waiting for this my whole life, Callian. It’s not just about revenge. It’s about making sure he can’t hurt anyone else the way he hurt me—my mother or Marion."

Callian walked toward her, taking her hand in his.

"I’ll stand by you every step of the way. But you need to tell me what you’re really planning. No surprises, Eira. If we’re going to do this, we do it together."

Eira’s eyes blinked as she squeezed his hand. "I wouldn’t want to do it without you," she admitted.

Callian raised an eyebrow, his smirk returned immediately. "Good. Then we start by dismantling his support system. Who’s first on the list?"

Eira hesitated, thinking. "Beatrice. She’s the main key to everything. If we can make her turn on him, it’ll set the stage for everything else."

Callian frowned. "Beatrice is loyal to Henry in her own twisted way. What makes you think she’ll turn against him?"

"Because I found out about her secrets. And if there’s one thing Beatrice values more than loyalty, it’s her own survival."

Callian tilted his head. "Secrets, huh? Care to share?"

"Not yet," Eira said. "But when the time comes, you’ll see."

Callian sighed but didn’t press further.

He knew better than to push Eira when she wasn’t ready to reveal everything.

"What about Steven?" Callian asked after a pause. "Do you think he’s really on your side, or is he playing his own game?"

"Steven is dangerous. He’s charming and calculated, but he has no loyalty to anyone. Not Henry, not me. If he’s offering to help, it’s because he sees an opportunity for himself."

"Then we use him," Callian said.

Eira nodded. "But carefully. If he finds out what we’re really planning, he could turn on us in an instant. Would be fun to see Henry cry."

"Eira, you know this isn’t going to be easy, right? Henry’s not just going to roll over and let us tear his life apart."

"I’m counting on that. The harder he fights, the more desperate he’ll become. And desperate people make mistakes."

Callian smiled faintly. "You really have thought this through."

Eira shrugged, "I’ve been thinking about it my entire life...I just needed to find a hole for the poison to leak in."

Callian pulled her into a hug, his arms wrapped tightly around her. "We’ll make it happen, Eira."

Eira rested her head against his chest, closing her eyes.

For a moment, she allowed herself to feel safe, even if it was fleeting. His big bear arms felt like the safest place for her to breathe.

"Tomorrow," she said quietly. "We start tomorrow."

Callian nodded. "Tomorrow, then."

As they stood there in the quiet of the penthouse, the storm outside began to gather.

They both knew the battle ahead wouldn’t be easy.

But for Eira, it wasn’t just a battle. It was her life’s mission. And she wasn’t going to stop until Henry was left with nothing.
