Marvel: The Villain-Chapter 242 One
BOOM!
The roar of cannon fire erupted!
A tank battalion, lying in ambush just out of sight, unleashed a barrage. 120mm tank shells instantly blanketed the rooftop of the building.
Amidst the billowing dust and smoke, the top third of the structure was obliterated, with rubble and debris raining down with a rustling hiss.
Thud!
Blonsky crashed onto the ground, a look of contemptuous mockery plastered on his face.
Attack helicopters immediately locked onto him, transmitting the live feed. After taking a full round of artillery fire, Blonsky didn’t have a single scratch on him, which shocked the soldiers witnessing it.
Before they could even comment, Blonsky kicked off the ground, leaping hundreds of meters in a single bound, heading straight for the tank cluster.
Any infantry unit on a battlefield fears these steel beasts. When Blonsky was just a standard operative executing missions, tanks had instilled an indelible fear in him. Now that he had become a superhuman, he naturally wanted to vent that frustration.
The tank group spotted Blonsky’s approach and immediately locked on to fire.
Boom! Rumble!
Shells whistled through the air.
Several shells missed their lead calculations, slamming into the ground beside Blonsky and blasting out massive craters. Some shells hit their mark, but they only slightly staggered his pace without causing any lethal damage.
Heh, tank shells are nothing special!
Blonsky grew confident. He leaped high into the air and crashed down from the sky, landing squarely on top of a tank.
The tank was indeed far sturdier than a car; the immense impact didn’t damage its combat components, but the soldiers inside were concussed into unconsciousness by the shockwave.
Blonsky raised his arm high and brought it down heavily.
CLANG!
With a crisp sound, the tank barrel was sheared right off.
The remaining tanks hesitated, afraid of hitting their own, but Blonsky had no intention of going easy on them.
He jumped to the ground, engaged the strength in his arms, and lifted the tank directly overhead. He then hurled it with full force at another tank.
CRASH!
The two tanks collided, their hulls deforming severely, instantly totaling both vehicles.
Blonsky repeated the process, setting his sights on yet another tank.
The tide of battle was turning unfavorable. The main reason was that Blonsky was too cunning, staying close enough to the vehicles that the gunners dared not fire with full power.
Seeing this, Ross had no choice but to issue an order to the army: Attack Blonsky at all costs.
*
While Manhattan was in the heat of battle, the base in the Hudson Valley was also bustling with activity.
Blonsky had just escaped from here. Regardless of the battle’s final outcome, this base was sure to be exposed, so the priority was to evacuate immediately.
Jason led a few of his cohorts outside to enjoy the cool air, incidentally listening to the distant sounds of gunfire.
Harley looked puzzled. "Do you guys think Blonsky has brain damage? After successfully transforming, instead of going back to the army to claim credit and rewards, he runs off to Manhattan to cause destruction."
David guessed, "Could it be that he’s afraid of offending us, so he doesn’t dare return to the army?"
Harley shook her head, finding that hard to believe. "He’s a veteran with twenty years of service; how could he suddenly abandon the army?"
David recalled his own career as a mercenary and said, "Military life isn’t necessarily wonderful. To him, maybe it was just a job, or perhaps purely a license to kill legally."
John added, "That makes sense. But even if he decided not to return to the army for whatever reason, why destroy New York?"
Jason smiled, speaking up in Blonsky’s defense with perfect understanding.
"There is no ’why.’ He just wants to do it. Violence is the dark side hidden within everyone’s heart."
"Ordinary people are bound by laws and morals, wearing masks every day to pretend they are kind."
"But once they gain absolute power, that suppressed darkness expands infinitely, eventually turning them into an irrational monster."
This explanation certainly clarified the bizarre behavior they were witnessing.
Blonsky had served for many years; his hands were stained with countless lives, and he had seen too many filthy things. The dark side of his heart ran far deeper than that of a normal person. Once a man like that starts committing crimes, frenzied is the only way to describe it.
As the group speculated on the victor, the distant gunfire gradually died down.
It seemed the military’s second wave of offense had also been dismantled by Blonsky, and with speed beyond their imagination.
They had already estimated Blonsky’s strength, so they weren’t surprised by this result.
David asked, "Boss, you said earlier you had a way to handle Blonsky. You aren’t just waiting for the army to defeat him, are you?"
Jason shook his head, his expression dismissive. "Weapons are dead; people are alive. Unless they use weapons of mass destruction, the army will find it very hard to defeat Blonsky. I wouldn’t be naive enough to count on them."
"Then you..."
"Boss, all equipment is loaded."
An organization member walked over, interrupting David.
Jason turned to Harley. "I’ll leave it to you."
Harley smiled and made an ’OK’ sign with her right hand.
Jason added, "Leave Banner and Betty behind."
Hearing this, the three suddenly understood.
"Boss, are you planning to..."
Jason nodded, smiling. "Fight poison with poison. Not a bad idea, right?"
The three agreed. Harley went into the stronghold to chase everyone out, then moved the researchers and supplies away.
Banner and Betty were bound by chains, making movement difficult.
So, they leaned against each other, supporting and comforting one another.
Jason couldn’t help but smirk.
"Look at you two, disaster is looming and you’re still cuddling. Are you looking for a meat shield, or is it true love?"
The two held hands tightly, staring at him warily.
Jason chuckled, a sudden urge rising in his heart.
He extended his right hand, and David immediately placed a pistol in it.
Jason clicked the safety off and aimed at them.
"NO!" Banner roared, immediately stepping in front of Betty to shield her.
Jason’s face was full of mockery; he didn’t fire.
"Dr. Banner, how tragic! You instinctively shielded your lover, yet the woman behind you instinctively took a step back to hide behind you. This sort of pathetic, servile devotion... it makes it hard for me to believe this is true love."
Betty’s face turned grim, and she looked up, stealing a glance at Banner.
Banner was furious. "I am a man, of course I have to protect her!"
Jason looked disgusted enough to vomit. "Don’t you go representing all men. There is no law that states a man must block bullets for a woman. But, since you are so courageous..."
Jason gave a wicked smile and threw the pistol to the ground. "Let’s play a game. I’m sure you’ve seen this on TV."
"Of the two of you, I can only let one go. The other must die."
"If the beautiful Ms. Betty chooses to commit suicide, I will release Dr. Banner and guarantee no further harm comes to him."
"But if Dr. Banner chooses to end himself, I will return Ms. Betty to her father, while Dr. Banner will be injected with long-term sedatives... to sleep forever and ever."
"The rules of the game have been explained. Make your choice!"
