Marvel: Umbrella Corporation-Chapter 178: The Capture Operation
Chapter 178 - The Capture Operation
If a zero-resistance material truly existed, countless technologies from science fiction could become a reality.
Reed couldn't resist the temptation of researching such a material.
After returning to rest, Adam headed upstairs to his office.
Time passed until noon. Just as he finished handling his tasks, Red Queen's holographic projection suddenly appeared.
"Master, Wade has escaped."
"Wade?"
Hearing Red Queen's words, Adam finally remembered—due to Wade's lackluster attitude toward work, he had ordered him to be locked up.
As for what to do with him, that was up to Luna, who would determine his attitude before deciding his fate.
But unexpectedly, Wade had managed to escape.
"Show me the surveillance footage. How did he get out?"
"Yes, Master."
Soon, the screen displayed Wade's figure.
Even while imprisoned, he kept cursing non-stop. He complained about Umbrella, berated the company's employees, and even insulted Adam, his employer.
He ranted about the U.S being a free country, about unlawful detention, and about unfair contract terms.
In short, he blamed Umbrella for making the experiment too painful.
Of course, he conveniently ignored the fact that Umbrella had cured his cancer and granted him extraordinary abilities.
A while later, a guard delivered his lunch.
At that moment, Wade struck—scarlet tendrils extended from his body, engulfing the unsuspecting guard. Then, disguising himself as the delivery man, he casually walked out of confinement.
Watching the footage, Adam shook his head.
"Red Queen, issue a capture order for Wade. Dead or alive."
He had considered recruiting Wade, but now it was clear—anti-heroes always acted unpredictably.
Wade wanted to leave? Fine.
But everything he had taken from Adam belonged to Umbrella. And he would take it back.
"Understood, Master."
..........
On the Streets of New York~
After shifting back to his normal appearance, Wade made his way toward Hell's Kitchen.
In his mind, the chaotic Hell's Kitchen was the only place in New York that was truly safe. Anywhere else, he risked being discovered by Umbrella.
If he could reach Hell's Kitchen and find a way out of the city, he'd be free.
As for fighting Umbrella?
That thought had never crossed his mind.
Anyone who had truly encountered Umbrella knew just how terrifyingly powerful the corporation was.
Forget the elite special forces and their seemingly invincible boss. Rumors spoke of a mysterious black-ops unit and an unstoppable squad known as "Black Watch."
Just hearing their names sent chills down his spine.
No, escape was the only realistic option.
..........
A few hours later, Wade glanced at the darkening sky and headed toward a local charity food station.
But the moment he saw the staff inside, he froze. Then, without hesitation, he turned and left.
Because this charity was run by Umbrella. Inside were Umbrella employees. If he stepped in, he'd be walking straight into their hands.
After wandering a bit longer, he finally found a non-Umbrella relief station.
Overjoyed, he hurried toward it.
"Hey, man, I haven't eaten in days. Give me a little extra—"
The man handing out food wore sunglasses. He glanced at Wade but remained silent, handing him a single portion before motioning for the next person in line.
Wade frowned.
"Come on, man, my stomach's caving in. Look—"
He lifted his shirt, revealing his gaunt belly.
Ever since merging with the Blacklight virus, his appetite had skyrocketed. Junk food and donuts simply weren't enough anymore.
But the man handing out food just coldly replied, "Supplies are limited. If you want more, try another shelter. Next."
"Wait, dude, I really don't want to go to another—" Before Wade could finish, the people behind him grew impatient.
"Move it! We need food too!"
"Yeah! If you take extra, what about us?"
"Get lost!"
Seeing the rising hostility, Wade had no choice but to slink away. He found a corner, quickly devoured his meal, then stared longingly at the relief station in the distance.
After half an hour, the crowd had dispersed, and the shelter was closing for the night.
At that moment, the man from earlier approached him, holding another portion of food.
"Here. This is all that's left."
Wade looked up as the man sat beside him. While eating, he curiously asked, "What's your name? And why are you just sitting out here?"
"Matt Murdock. And you?"
"Wade Winston Wilson. You still haven't answered me—why aren't you heading home? Shouldn't you be off by now?"
"Home? Where would I go?" Matt thought back to two years ago.
He took off his sunglasses, revealing his milky-white eyes.
His home had been destroyed. Labeled as a fugitive sympathizer, he was lucky to have escaped prison, thanks to a friend pulling some strings.
But that meant he had lost the last place he could call home. Now, he survived through charity work, scraping by one day at a time.
And after Raven was captured...
His hatred for Umbrella only deepened.
Seeing Matt's expression shift, Wade tried to lighten the mood.
"Oh, so you're blind. No, wait—I didn't mean that in a bad way. I have nothing against blind people. I just feel bad, you know? You guys can't see the beauty of the world."
"Wait, what am I saying? Right—so you're homeless too? Your dad died? Your mom? Or both?
Sorry, I'm not trying to bring up bad memories, but even if they're both dead, you gotta keep moving forward."
"That way, your folks can rest easy in heaven. By the way, where are you sleeping tonight? Got room for one more?"
Hearing Wade's rambling attempt at comfort, Matt felt his blood pressure spike.
"My parents aren't dead! They just live in the countryside and hate the city!"
"Ohhh, so they're alive? Then why are you saying you don't have a home? I thought you were like me, an orphan.
Wait—so where are you staying tonight? Mind sharing a spot?"
Just as Wade finished speaking, he suddenly noticed an Umbrella vehicle approaching.
His expression stiffened.
He immediately turned away, grabbing a plastic bag from the ground to shield his face.
Matt, though blind, had extraordinary hearing and faint psychic perception.
He instantly sensed Wade's tension—
And the presence of an Umbrella vehicle closing in.
