Marvel's master of cosmic magic-Chapter 810
"He wouldn’t be my match even if he reached godhood."
Rowan Mercer could see the hesitation in Lady Eleanor’s eyes, so he briefly described what he had encountered in the Godforsaken Expanse and the extent of his current capabilities.
Then he added calmly, "Afterward, you’ll need to place a temporary seal on me. Once I succeed, I can retrieve water from the Everdark River for you."
Lady Eleanor went still.
The Everdark River was not merely a myth.
It was a primordial source tied to night, death, and twilight.
Long ago, it had been sealed on the Western Continent. During the Second Epoch, a tributary had inexplicably surfaced.
In the Fourth Epoch, the Undead Emperor had drawn on that tributary, attempting to force a new evolutionary path toward becoming something greater than a god.
He failed.
Catastrophically.
Only a primordial source could safely contend with another primordial source.
Lady Eleanor and the God of War both coveted that tributary’s power.
Neither dared touch it.
Rowan was different.
He already possessed a complete primordial foundation.
If he became a true god, he could interact with the Everdark River without being corrupted.
That promise tipped the scales.
Lady Eleanor nodded.
"I will help you."
They discussed several details.
Then Rowan left her divine realm and appeared in the countryside outside Backlund.
Lady Eleanor’s realm was currently under constant observation by the God of War.
Any large disturbance there would raise immediate suspicion.
Out here, Rowan could work freely.
He raised his hand.
Five towering elemental entities emerged and took positions in a precise geometric formation.
A vast barrier folded into existence.
A prison.
A shield.
A veil.
It would prevent escape.
It would conceal the coming upheaval.
Rowan layered additional authority onto the formation.
Concealment.
Distortion.
Silence.
Then he did not summon the Door-bound entity immediately.
Instead, he began calling forth echoes from history.
One after another.
Three radiant figures manifested.
Silent.
Deadly.
Ancient.
Their presence alone distorted space.
Rowan studied them, satisfied.
"With you three here, this should be simple."
He retrieved a high-grade mystical core and arranged a compact altar.
Then he spoke.
"Lady Eleanor."
The seal weakened.
Rowan began the invocation.
"Great Gate of All Doors.
Guide of the endless stars.
Key to every hidden world.
Your path is open. Step through."
The core rose into the air.
Invisible forces carved grotesque sigils across space.
Symbols layered over symbols.
Until a massive, writhing doorway of living flesh took shape.
More than five meters tall.
Rowan gazed into its black interior and smiled.
He could feel the presence beyond.
Struggling.
Forcing its way free.
Candle flames flared.
Two colossal arms emerged from the darkness, bracing against the sides of the doorway.
Space trembled.
Rowan casually reinforced the barrier.
"Come on, Old Door."
He clapped.
"Almost there."
Lady Eleanor, observing from afar, felt a strange sensation.
What should have been a nightmarish summoning had somehow turned... absurd.
With a thunderous roar, the figure wrenched itself free.
A towering being draped in a blood-colored robe stepped out.
The flesh-door collapsed, fusing into its body.
The moment its foot touched the ground, the ritual began.
Across the world, doors creaked open.
Seals faltered.
Invisible gateways flickered into existence and vanished.
Those who understood what this meant went pale.
"Bethel Abraham... is attempting to ascend." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Gods stirred.
Hidden monsters awakened.
Divinations failed.
No one could locate him.
And without a location, interference was impossible.
Deep within the spirit world, Adrian Crowe opened his eyes.
Across from him stood Aurelion, expression dark.
"It seems you’ll need to find another opportunity," Adrian said quietly.
Then he added, "Ever since that so-called angel of the Fool appeared, nothing has gone according to plan."
"This Door-bound entity’s return is almost certainly his doing."
Adrian looked directly at Aurelion.
"Be careful. I suspect you’re next."
