Master Of Astral Summoner-Chapter 154: Secret information
Hearing those words, Shaan could only swallow hard and remain silent. The officer clearly delivered a stern warning, and Shaan knew he had to make sure that anything he said in the future came with solid proof.
"Do you understand?"
"Y-yes." Shaan lowered his head weakly. "I understand."
"Good. Now return to the town square. Someone there might need your help."
"I-I understand."
Shaan immediately headed toward the town square as quickly as he could. He didn't want to cause any trouble with the officer, which would only make everything worse.
'Now, I need to get back before—'
"Argh, damn it. Why did I drop it?"
Shaan stopped in his tracks the moment he heard someone muttering angrily from the narrow path to his left. For some reason, the voice sounded familiar, so he decided to follow the source of the sound.
"Theo?" Shaan frowned when he saw Theo gathering scattered decorations from the ground. "Here, let me help you." Shaan quickly picked up the fallen decorations and handed them to him. "Here, these are the decorations that—"
"I don't need anyone's help." Theo angrily snatched the decorations from Shaan's hands. "I can handle it myself."
"B-but, I just wanted to help you."
"I already told you, I don't need any help." Theo glared cynically at Shaan, then walked away without saying anything.
'Jeez... what's wrong with that guy?' Shaan shook his head. 'I was just trying to help him.'
'To all daemonists, please gather at the town square immediately. Thank you.'
The announcement echoed through the loudspeakers spread across Twilight Sanctum. As soon as Shaan heard it, he hurried to follow the instructions until he finally reached the square.
"Wow, everyone seems to be here already," Shaan looked around. "What exactly do you want to—"
"To all daemonists, good day. Today's decoration activities have been completed. I appreciate your cooperation, and have a good rest."
One by one, people began leaving the area. Soon after, Shaan spotted Chelsie and Nalira standing near a lamppost at the edge of the square. No wonder he hadn't seen them among the crowd earlier.
"I'd better go over to them."
"Chelsie, Nalira!" Shaan called out as he walked toward them. "So you two are here."
"Uhm… yes," Chelsie replied. "There were too many people, and we had trouble getting through the crowd. So Nalira suggested that we wait here instead of pushing our way in."
"... That's right." Nalira nodded her head. "Besides, we can hear the announcement clearly from here."
"Ah, I see. "
"... It seems like everyone is here. Now it's time for us to go back. "
"Uhm... Yes. I agree. "Chelsie nodded her head enthusiastically. "Mr. Courier and Dr. Marshal must be waiting for us."
***
"Courier 020, how is it?" Dr. Marshal stepped forward without hesitation. "Do you see any signs of their presence?"
Mr. Courier quickly shook his head. "No, sir. I don't see Shaan or the others anywhere."
"That's strange…" Dr. Marshal rubbed his chin, worry clear on his face. "We already finished discussing the second meeting. They should have arrived by now. But why haven't they—"
"But why are they—"
'Knock! Knock! Knock!'
"That must be them," said Dr. Marshal enthusiastically. "Courier 020, quickly open the door for them."
"Understood, sir."
Mr. Courier immediately opened the door and found Shaan, Nalira, and Chelsie standing there. Their exhausted expressions stood out clearly, so the courier promptly invited them inside and guided them to the living room to sit with Dr. Marshal.
"Ah, I'm glad you're all safe," Dr. Marshal said as he let out a deep breath, his face finally relaxing. "So… how did the activities go?" He took a sip of his warm coffee. "You must be tired, right? Decorating the Twilight Sanctum city square takes a lot of effort, but it's also one of the more enjoyable activities here, don't you think?"
Nalira nodded her head. "That's right. I agree."
Dr. Marshall slowly placed his coffee cup down and leaned back on the sofa. "At least you didn't encounter any problems. That's good."
"Uhmm... Yes. Just minor issues, but we can both handle them," Chelsie smiled, looking at Nalira. "Right, Lira?"
"Yes."
"Good, glad to hear it." Dr. Marshal turned his gaze to Shaan. "What about you, Shaan? Are you the same?"
"Uh... Yes." Shaan smiled as he scratched his head. "The activities are quite fun, but... there's something that worries me."
Hearing Shaan's words, Dr. Marshal immediately furrowed his brow. "Worried? What are you worried about?"
Shaan leaned forward slightly and whispered. "The Resistance. It's about that group. They're already in the Twilight Sanctum."
Everyone froze at once. Silence quickly filled the room after Shaan spoke. The smiles that had filled their faces vanished in an instant.
"The Re-Resistance is inside this city?" Dr. Marshal laughed lightly, clearly thinking Shaan was joking. "Shaan, that's not funny. Information about the Resistance is extremely sensitive, and you need to be careful with your words."
"Uhm... Yes, I agree with Dr. Marshall." Chelsie nodded her head. "How could the resistance easily enter the Twilight Sanctum? A group like the Resistance would find it very difficult to get inside."
"B-but I swear, it must-"
"Shaan, do you have any proof?" Nalira looked at Shaan with a curious yet cautious expression. "At the very least, if you have clear evidence, your words will make more sense."
Shaan shook his head. "Unfortunately, I don't. I only overheard a conversation between two Resistance members, and they mentioned using Verulene powder for something," Shaan explained. "But… I don't know exactly what they plan to use it for, or when the attack will begin."
Dr. Marshal rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Hmm… I can't say that your words are definitely true, but I also can't dismiss them completely."
"Believe me. I'm not making a story," Shaan assured the others. "I heard myself that the resistance group is going to destroy the Twilight Sanctum. We have to warn the other faction leaders, Dr. Marshal. They must—"
"It's not that simple, Shaan." Dr. Marshal patted Shaan on the shoulder. "Without clear evidence, no one will believe you. The faction leaders will think you're crazy and punish you for spreading false information that causes chaos in the Twilight Sanctum," said Dr. Marshall. "You yourself know how the system works here."
"...."
"We need proof. Valid data."
"That's right, Miss Nalira." Dr. Marshal let out a slow sigh. "Listen to me carefully. Until we obtain strong evidence, we must all keep our mouths shut. Do not let anyone else know about this—only us. Do you understand?"
"Uhm... Okay. "
"I understand. "
"I get it, Dr. Marshall. " Shaan nodded weakly. "I'm sorry for making things tense. "
"Calm down, Shaan. Everything is fine. " Dr. Marshall smiled. "Ah, I just remembered. It turns out there are two important pieces of information I need to share with you."
"I-important information?" Nalira fell silent for a moment. "What information?"
"First, the exact location of the Daemon Hunt Rite has been confirmed, and that's a good thing," Dr. Marshall explained. "At least you can prepare yourselves properly."
"Uhmm... What about the second piece of news?"
"The second one..."
