Master of Kaidan-Chapter 585: Constant Replacement
"Sir, what do you need?"
"Sir, may I ask..."
"Sir..."
The voices, almost completely overlapping, kept echoing in his ears, giving him a different sensation from when he was besieged by the crew members before.
The thick malice gathered from strands and threads, washing over Feng Xue’s spirit like raging waves. Those eyes—calm, bewildered, numb, or imploring—seemed to be drawn by some force. Each eyeball stared at Feng Xue’s eyes, ignoring the carriage and all other obstacles in their path.
"Fuck!" Feng Xue immediately brushed over his pinky ring, and the long-haired girl dressed as a swordsman appeared at his side, her voice clear and cold:
"Orders?"
"Guard."
Knowing the nature of this ghost sealed by the Great White Golden Star, Feng Xue didn’t waste words. After uttering two words, he immediately began to move.
Unlike the previous crew members, these beings weren’t locking onto him through perception or anything alike, and the pressure each of them exerted was not stronger than that of the crew members.
However, when all these forces began to converge, it was an entirely different story.
Although at this moment, these vendors had not shown any hostile actions, the pressure was already urging Feng Xue to respond.
He knew that if this continued, something bad would definitely happen. But no matter how he moved, those lines of sight seemed to be able to cross the void and remained focused on him.
"What the hell are these things?"
Feng Xue was highly doubtful of the makeup of these salespeople, but the urgency as if the Death God’s scythe was already against his throat left him no time to think.
"Bang!"
Suddenly, a booming explosion sounded by his ears, and Feng Xue felt his breathing become stagnant.
He could feel his body growing stiffer by the moment, his legs starting to be pulled by some force, moving of their own volition towards the door of the train.
"They want me to get off the train!"
Although his legs were being pulled by some force, Feng Xue did not completely lose control of his body as when he was surrounded by the crew before. Seeing his legs moving faster, he bit down on his teeth, gripping the camera before his chest, and took a selfie.
"Bang!"
A layer of armor shattered loudly, and Feng Xue tumbled down the aisle for over seven meters before slamming into the tail end of the carriage with a smack.
Before the state of Open Mouth and Close Eyes had dissipated, he once again felt his legs start to move uncontrollably.
Seeing that he had reached the end of the train, he took a deep breath and mustered the Lion Roar Skill, shouting in the language of the Bells:
"Help!"
The terrifying sound waves, amplified by True Qi, spread along the metal body of the train towards both ends, while Feng Xue forcefully took a breath, shattering his own heart meridian.
Bang!
Another explosion occurred, and Feng Xue once again lapsed into the "Open Mouth and Close Eyes" state.
Although this state could lead to a vulnerability that could be exploited after resurrection, at this moment, it undeniably delayed the time the mysterious seller outside the vehicle could control him.
When Feng Xue severed his heart meridians for the sixth time, a group of high-nosed, deep-eyed Belerians dressed in blue police uniforms burst out from the connection point of the vehicle. Seeing Feng Xue lying on the ground, they immediately asked,
"What happened?"
Feng Xue didn’t explain; he simply pointed outside the vehicle and continuously uttered in the Belerian language, "Save me!"
A few of the officers looked outside and seemed to notice something. One of them quickly grabbed a whistle and blew it forcefully, while the others drew their sidearms, aiming at the outside of the vehicle, shouting police phrases, and maintaining their shooting stances.
The voice coming from outside, "Sir, may I ask what you need?" became chaotic at that moment, losing the almost synchronous state, allowing Feng Xue to break free from the strong control.
Soon, more police from the station gathered around, and the sellers scattered like birds and beasts, only leaving footprints behind that declared they had been there.
"I’m sorry, sir, these sellers are associated with some local gangs and may have been planning to do something through you. Please don’t worry though; our local colleagues will have a good talk with them. Besides, this train will depart shortly; they won’t bother you anymore..."
The leading blond policewoman with big curls comforted Feng Xue with sincerity. Feng Xue nodded, stood up, straightened out the Inner Qi he had prepared to sever his heart meridians, and put away the self-destruct switch. He then tidied his collar. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Escorted back to his room by several "policewomen," a slight frown appeared on Feng Xue’s face because "Lin Jiaxin" had disappeared again.
"What’s going on..." Worried that the girl might have traps on her, Feng Xue immediately sensed the mark on her, but to his chilling realization, the response from the mark was outside the vehicle.
"Did she die again, triggering the refresh procedure? Or was she ’captured’ by those sellers?"
Feng Xue pondered, but his eyes were drawn to the half-eaten pack of Milk Chocolate on the bed.
Lin Jiaxin held a somewhat special status in this train... or rather, in this carriage. Compared to the identity of "passenger" and the non-human Bread Girl and Mango Girl, she had always been self-correcting.
Although this was also related to her perpetual persecution, Feng Xue felt that, as a Kaidan, there should be no "meaningless" consumption.
Since Lin Jiaxin kept evolving, from a person to a ghost, from other people to a Kaidan with the same name, and even to different unique individuals, this series of transformations was clearly not just to ensure Feng Xue’s carriage always had someone in it.
In other words, Feng Xue believed there must be a reason why this Kaidan kept generating new Lin Jiaxin versions and tweaking her settings.
At least, Mango Girl and Bread Girl haven’t been refreshed since they were sent to the alternate dimension.
Thus, from this perspective, the fact that the sellers could take Lin Jiaxin away was in itself against the initial intent of the main body of this Kaidan, meaning that these sellers might be entities opposed to the train.
"It surely can’t be the predecessors who failed the challenge before, right? There are just too many of them!"
Feng Xue almost instantly discarded this notion. After all, Infinite City had only appeared less than fifty years ago. Even including those of Hundred Tales, the poorly skilled represented only about ten thousand individuals, and even fewer had reached above the hundredth layer.
Yet, there were at least a hundred and eighty sellers outside the vehicle.
Feng Xue absolutely refused to believe that so many big shots capable of challenging the Layer Master could have been defeated at this level.
In the midst of his contemplation, the room door was once again turned.
That familiar face appeared before him again—
"These people selling stuff are too much, not respecting that deal is a deal! They even wanted to force a sale! Thankfully those cops were somewhat reliable; otherwise, the trouble would have been serious!"
Watching Lin Jiaxin pick up the half-eaten pack of Milk Chocolate on the bed, eating and complaining at the same time, Feng Xue had a cold look in his eyes because he clearly felt that Lin Jiaxin, tagged with a label, was still out there.
