Chapter 596: Chapter 596: Visit

For the renovation of Level 107, Feng Xue was not particularly attentive, merely moving his own villa up and replacing it in the same style.

After all, compared to such trivial matters, he was more concerned about the upcoming issues.

Even though the library and the secret store were already open, they were not very useful for Feng Xue.

Because for entries like "Infinite City Lord," "Babylon Tower Master," "121 Challenges Details," and "Formation of Babylon Tower" that Feng Xue wanted to know, the library NPC’s answer was always "Insufficient permissions." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

Recalling the previous so-called "gained some permissions," it seemed he really needed to complete the 121 challenges to unlock them.

"But if I manage to pass all 121 challenges, why would I still need this information?"

Rolling his eyes, Feng Xue walked into the secret store, although it was called a secret, in the Level 107 that had been expanded by Feng Xue into a Su-style garden, it was actually quite conspicuous.

"Honorable Layer Master, may I ask what you need?"

Seeing Feng Xue push open the door, a store clerk, resembling a fortune-teller witch, was sitting behind a table filled with various strange items, politely asking.

Looking at this mystic facade, Feng Xue directly asked,

"What do you have here?"

"The Old God’s Legacy, Past Illusion, Historical Trace."

"Can you speak human language?" Listening to the enigmatic response, Feng Xue remarked with a headache.

"Phantoms left by perished kaidan, remnants of collapsed world-type kaidan, and items that can precisely anchor the coordinates of a certain world." The clerk explained diligently, and only then did Feng Xue nod, "Do you have an inventory?"

"The quantity is substantial, you can state your needs, and I’ll help you search."

The clerk remained courteous, but Feng Xue shook his head:

"A large volume is fine, just show me the inventory."

This was not Feng Xue making trouble intentionally, but he really had no idea what to search for.

Hearing him say this, the clerk did not object further but instead handed over a terminal resembling a work badge, and with a swipe of the finger, a very complex catalog appeared before him.

The list of items was varied and chaotic.

From world remnants over an area of 100,000 square kilometers, with some effort, a work hell-like kaidan world could possibly be created.

To companion phantom objects left by unknown kaidan worshipped by primitive people hundreds of thousands of years ago, which might consume the last echoes of its original owner with some study.

Even strange true objects like xenomorph-shaped ear picks, human-headed goblets, and stone-carved eyeballs were mainly anchoring tools for dimensions, with the only difference from true objects collected from landfills being that each had a clear label.

Utilizing the mechanism of the Tower of Babylon, these objects were undoubtedly useful tools for high-level kaidan, but for Feng Xue right now, there was no particular need.

If he really intended to cultivate Hell, wouldn’t it be stronger to farm instances in that mysterious world?

"Looks like I still have to visit the neighbor." Feng Xue shook his head and left the secret store, making his way to Level 114, where as long as no Layer Master challenge was initiated, the forbidden weapon rule still applied, allowing Feng Xue to calmly knock on the seemingly defenseless door of He Feng Manor.

The Green Lantern was swift, appearing just three seconds after the knock, wearing a slightly provocative teal low-cut kimono, and looked at Feng Xue with a somewhat surprised expression.

After a brief confusion, she softly said in a voice that seemed to come from a great distance,

"I knew you would come, but I didn’t expect it so soon. From the looks of it, it seems you’ve already obtained the Layer Master’s qualification?"

"Just lucky." Feng Xue shook his head lightly, but the atmosphere between them suddenly became awkward, as if neither knew how to proceed.

After a moment, the Green Lantern stepped aside and said,

"Come in and let’s talk, I have a good idea of what you want to ask."

"It would be rude to refuse." Feng Xue stepped into the manor, passing through a not-so-short Japanese-style garden landscape, and amidst the sound of startled deer, he arrived at a tea room.

The Green Lantern waved her hand lightly, and a woman with a white cloth inscribed with the character "tea" covering her face appeared out of thin air, kneeling in front of the tea table, skillfully starting to brew tea.

"Power to manufacture Japanese-style kaidan?" Feng Xue glanced at the "tea girl" who had just been born yet possessed the Kaidan Fire, understanding that the other was showcasing her ability, but he had no intention of showing off back, and instead directly asked,

"Is there anything you can tell me about the 121 layers’ challenges?"

"I thought you might talk about other things first." Green Lantern, with a calm voice, sipped her tea gracefully, while Feng Xue did not bother with the tea the tea girl offered, casually spreading his hands and saying,

"There is nothing we need to discuss with words, if possible, I would just kill you, but until I’m confident I can do that, I will restrain myself, and I believe you feel the same, right?"

"I don’t harbor such terrifying thoughts," Green Lantern shook her head, saying,

"It’s your business if you want to kill me, but since you can’t do it now, let’s talk about cooperation."

"How do you propose we cooperate?" Feng Xue was noncommittal about the Green Lantern’s response, and she did not force him to believe her, simply replying,

"It’s what you want to know about the 121 layers."

"Oh, do tell."

Feng Xue perked up, while Green Lantern waved her hand, making all the tea utensils on the tea table vanish, the tea girl serving beside also disappeared into thin air, replaced by an illusory sand table of Infinite City.

The towering Babylon Tower, the expanding residential areas, the four major landfills that resembled cyber cities, and countless small landfills spreading out like fractal patterns across the land.

Feng Xue was familiar with this map, just puzzled as to why Green Lantern brought it out now.

Seemingly knowing what Feng Xue wanted to ask, Green Lantern stopped her finger at the tip of Babylon Tower and posed a question—

"Do you know how the Tower of Babylon came to be?"

"The central mainframe building of the hyper-modern community Infinite City?" Feng Xue quoted the standard answer found in the residential area library, but Green Lantern shook her head upon hearing this:

"You’re talking about this tower’s exterior."

Hearing this explanation, Feng Xue immediately thought of his numerous previous questions, such as why the Babylon Tower had the ability to actively traverse, which didn’t fit the "landfill" definition, or why it housed old relics from a bygone era like Michizane Sugawara, Cain, and Seth, and even the symbolic name of the Babylon Tower itself.

When he mentally reviewed his past thoughts, he frowned and said:

"So, the interior and exterior of the tower aren’t a cohesive system? It came later? Or does this tower predate Infinite City?"

"No, the Tower of Babylon indeed appeared after Infinite City’s emergence, but the process was even more convoluted..."
