Masteria Online: Shattering the Dark God's Grand Scheme-Chapter 168 - Intense battle
It seemed that even while he was focused on grinding EXP on the masses of pixies, even while maintaining that absurd casting frequency, he was still watching her back. That, or it was pure chance that a lance happened to lock on, entirely possible given the rate of Lumi’s spam.
That said, she chose to completely disregard the second possibility in favor of the first. It was better to imagine that Lumi was looking out for her specifically!
The lance of light may have missed, but it was still flying through the air. Lena’s eyes flashed. It had homing properties, no? Then there was something she might be able to do. Lena reached out quickly and slapped the lance with her bare hand as it passed by.
"Ow!" She hadn’t quite expected the harsh sting, pain exploded through her palm as the holy energy burned her skin.
[HP -23]
She quickly pulled back her hand, the impact was already done. The strike changed the lance’s trajectory, redirecting it at a new angle. Now it was vaguely pointed towards the pixies new position. Due to the homing properties of the lance, it was positioned close enough to fly toward where the pixie had just teleported to.
Lena followed up immediately, not giving the pixie any time to recover. "Have some bombs!" she shouted, throwing out several spherical objects. She threw them wildly in every direction, covering all possible escape routes.
The pixie materialized from its teleport and immediately saw the situation. There were bombs everywhere, a lance of light coming straight at it, and no clear escape route. Its eyes widened in panic as it was forced to make a choice between taking the lance or trying to dodge through the bombs.
Ultimately, it chose the lance. It had no idea how strong the explosion was, but if it was anything like the one it was already forced to endure, it might just die on the spot.
On the other hand, the lance was just one of the many constructs that originated from a single spell. The damage it could cause was limited. It narrowed its eyes, waiting for the right moment to dodge. Then the pixie swiftly dashed to the left...
Distance could be deceiving.
If cast at close range, Lance of Light was trivial to dodge. That was even without using teleport. However, the longer the spell travelled, the quicker it became. Though the pixie moved at a theoretically correct time, the lance had been travelling so long it was nearly about to dissipate.
That also meant it was at its maximum speed. Unable to move aside in time, the lance punched through its chest, piercing clean through from front to back. The pixie screamed as it was struck, and blood fountained from the wound.
Despite the damage, it was lightly relieved. If it was just this... it could survive this. At least it hadn’t been caught in a bomb blast.
A bomb blast...
Where was the bomb blast?
Nothing had happened. The spherical objects dissipated away into nothingness. The pixie eyes widened as it stared at them in complete confusion.
"What..." It slowly realized they weren’t bombs at all. They were just energy balls! A simple, common spell. Every disciple of Merath knew it!
Lena had lied yet again.
But that made the pixie hate it all the more. How did it fall for it!? Why did it subconsciously take the enemies words into consideration!? Were pixies themselves not masters of using speech and language as a weapon? It should have considered this!
What had even happened?
Both bombs and energy balls were spherical. In the chaos of combat, with stress and panic clouding judgment, it was easy to assume the worst. The pixie felt something break inside its mind. It was done with Lena, completely done. From this moment forward, it would never believe a single thing she said. It would verify everything, trust nothing, assume every statement was a lie.
Wait.
The pixie froze as a thought suddenly entered its mind. Lena was a priest, was she not? The number one priests were known for was their ability to heal. It glanced at the wound through Lena’s chest. The wound was severe. If it could strike Lena with another attack, she would be done for.
And if it didn’t do that, then it would be done for instead! It didn’t know an anti-heal curse.
If it let this drag on even a few more seconds, if it let Lena heal herself even once, the fight would turn into a protracted war of attrition. It would turn into a long, drawn out magician’s duel where she could slowly whittle it down while recovering from every injury. That would be unacceptable. It needed to end this now, right now.
The pixies eyes narrowed.
What was that thing Lena said earlier? They lost because they weren’t ruthless enough? Heh, well it would show her ruthless! It knew that even if it got injured in the process, it had to force a win now!
It focused its full attention and teleported directly to Lena’s position, closing the distance instantly. Lena teleported away the moment it appeared. The pixie didn’t hesitate, teleporting again, following her. It appeared right behind her. It was already swinging its claws, slashing toward her back.
The split second between Lena’s teleport and the pixie’s follow up teleport had given Lena the smallest remnant of time, imperceptible to a baseline human. It wasn’t even enough time for another teleport.
She barely enough time for the quickest spell she knew. Her face panicked, and she yelled out as the claw approached her face. "Here’s a bomb!" A simple sphere of magical energy shot forth from her wand.
"Shit." The pixie’s eyes locked onto the projectile quickly. Was Lena mad!? A bomb at this range with no teleports able to be cast would blow them both up!
As it analyzed it quickly, in just a mere millisecond, it confirmed something important. This time, it had uncovered Lena’s trick. It could see clearly that it was just a standard energy ball, not a bomb.
"Wait!" It suddenly realized the trickery the human wanted to play on it!
