Mated to A Rival Alpha-Chapter 350: I Made A Promise I Intend To Keep
[RANIA]
"I’m so sorry, butterfly. I really am," Kaia whispered defeatedly once he had wiped her body and tucked her in bed. He had promised to protect her and yet he hadn’t been able to protect her from herself.
She had hurt herself in the war in so many ways and for a moment there Kaia considered his options. He knew that it wasn’t going to be pretty when morning came, but he also knew that his mate was more important than anyone else.
Maybe that’s why as he looked at his mate, the barbarian made the one choice that could turn things upside down, between him and her.
"Haru, wake up and get the others to the alpha’s office. Urgent meeting," Kaia said in the mind link, before shutting it instantly that anyone could have assumed that it was just them hearing things.
But then that never happened when it came to Kaisei and his brother. There was always something to work on, something to work out, something to figure out at the end of the day.
Kaia knew that he could probably regret this, but he hoped that despite everything, they would be able to agree on what he wanted to do for them. He hoped that his mate would understand them because there wasn’t a thing that couldn’t wait for his mate.
He could buy them as much time as they could and that was so important right now.
"I promised to protect you, my little butterfly, and what I might do next may cause us problems, but baby, know that I am doing this for you. It doesn’t matter what happens, as long as you are healthy, and happier.
"I would take your happiness over anything baby. Please forgive me for what I will do this time," Kaia said softly as he looked at his mate.
He had the strong urge to get into bed with her, and hug her for as long as he could, but then right now, there were more pressing matters. They may have been at war, but he couldn’t deny that Kim Rania was his main priority at the moment.
He didn’t care what the fuck could happen later on, because, at the end of the day, the only one that mattered most to him was the woman he had fallen hopelessly in love with.
So, with one last kiss, Kaia stepped out of the guest room and headed for the alpha’s office, where he found his friends already there. they had all gotten the memo, even Paloma and Odelia who had been incinerating bodies out there. it was that urgent.
"What happened to Rania?"
"Why did you wake us up? Is something the matter with her?"
"You sounded worried. Is she okay?"
"What happened back out there?"
"Was she hurt?"
There were so many questions as the misfits tried to make sense of the situation. They knew that it wasn’t daily that Kaia did this and that worried them in so many ways.
They were worried for Rania and more than anything, they were worried that her body was rejecting the Lycan genes.
Rania had gone through so many transformations in the past week and if she had a meltdown, everyone would simply understand her.
She had gone from being the crazy alpha, to the girl who was rejected, to the girl who released her mother was the moon goddess’s sister, and that she was more powerful than she could have imagined.
As if that wasn’t enough, she had been mated to the strongest of the strongest Lycans, which meant that her body was meant to go into hibernation to help her transition softly.
That should have taken three months or even six months at most and yet the following morning just after her mate had marked her, she was back in the office, planning and strategizing wars.
Now that the war was ongoing, she hadn’t had any time for resting and her body was slowly giving up.
She had gone through enough shit and there was a high chance that she would probably wake up and go back into the action like it was the simplest thing in her life. Her whole life had been a war and that was something that Kaia was hoping to change.
Perhaps he could give her a reason to hold on, a reason to try and think about herself instead of always worrying about everyone and everything else.
But if only it was that easy to convince her that sometimes she had to focus on other battlefields, and even focus on herself.
"She is not okay and that’s why I called us here," Kaia said and everyone was officially worried for the girl in the guest room.
They knew that this day would come, the day when everything just crashed on Rania because she was taking on too much.
They knew that it wouldn’t be easy for her or even on her but they were also aware that she never was the king to think of herself. That was the heartbreaking bit of all this.
"I knew we should have postponed the war. We should have tried to make her see reason instead of letting her drive in," Chang Wook said regretfully and Dalrae just hung her head in shame.
She had taken the easier way out and forgot that her sister was always the kind to fight herself till everything was perfect. It wasn’t the best of things but it was something that would always haunt them for a while.
"She wouldn’t listen to you. I know my sister and I know she wouldn’t have changed her mind no matter what she said or did. We either had to defy her and stay on the sidelines, or join her and reduce the effects of the war on her.
"It wasn’t going to be easy," Dalrae said worriedly. She had known that her sister was such a stubborn mule, but a part of her hoped that just this once, Kim Rania would be the first one to tap put and call it breaks. But then she hadn’t done that.
Instead, she had shifted between having apparent fun with the prisoners and making sure the warriors who had invaded their home never went back home alive. She had been through hell and back.
"The invaders were already on their way. Nothing we could have done could have changed her mind. She wanted this to be over and done with.
"Maybe that was also why she never faltered when she was transitioning from an alpha wolf to the first female Lycan," Paloma said defeatedly.
She loved Rania just like everyone else but at least they knew her enough to know that she wouldn’t have approved some things regardless of who did what and where. She was just as wild as that and they had to accept that and move on.
Granted, it wasn’t the easiest of things, but they had to.
"I know, and I don’t blame any of us. We were all trying to make it easier for her and I’m sure we did. The battle could have lasted years on end, and we reduced it to a one-day battle.
"I know that had a lot of effect on us, and I appreciate that we made it through the first phase successfully. But that is also the reason I want to take Rania out of Incayon," Kaia said, making them look at him like he had lost his mind.
Oh, but he sure did because what the hell was he thinking?
