Mated To The Cruel Prince-Chapter 683: Fallen Senselessly For Aldric
Chapter 683: Fallen Senselessly For Aldric
Elena’s eyes were cold, calculating, and filled with a hint of amusement, as if she found Islinda’s presence both entertaining and insignificant. She leaned back slightly in her chair, exuding an aura of effortless confidence, a faint smirk playing on her lips.
Islinda was pissed off. For someone whose crime was about to be revealed and persecuted, she looked too confident for her liking. Well, not that Elena knew of their plans. Soon, those smile would be turned to crying and she, Islinda would have the last laugh.
Thanks to that, Islinda refused to look away. She held Elena’s gaze with as much strength as she could muster, determined to show that she would not be intimidated. The tension between the both females was palpable, a silent duel of dominance and resolve.
The royal court seemed to fade into the background as they stared at each other, the noise and movement from the other fae becoming distant and inconsequential. For a brief moment, it felt as if they were the only two people in the hall, locked in an intense battle of unspoken words and hidden intentions.
Islinda could sense the challenge in Elena’s eyes, the unspoken threat and the promise of pain. But she also saw something else—curiosity. It was as if Elena was trying to decipher her, to understand her motives and strength.
It made Islinda frown a little, it couldn’t be that Elena knew of their plan, right? No, that can’t be. They are had been meticulous nor was Aldric who could have betrayed her conscious. Islinda unconsciously reached for her neck, reliving that night Aldric had tried murdering her. That would not happen again, they would deal with Elena once and for all.
Finally, it was Elena who broke the stare, turning her attention back to the proceedings of the court just as the royal herald announced, "All rise for the high lord, prince Aldric."
Islinda quickly rose to her feet when she saw everyone in the hall doing the same. She looked towards the entrance and felt the breath escape her lungs. By the gods, Eli was breathtaking.
Eli was dressed ostentatiously, embodying the winter prince he was.
Draped over his shoulders was a luxurious furry coat, its dense, dark fur adding an air of menace to his already intimidating presence.
The coat, flowing elegantly behind him, amplified his aura of unrestrained power and authority. Each step he took, It was as if he carried the chill of winter itself with him, making the air around him seem colder and sharper.
He wore his hair long and partially braided as Aldric does at times, with it cascading down to his shoulders, adding to his wild, unrestrained look. The braids were adorned with small, intricate beads that caught the light, a subtle reminder of his connection to the Winter court’s ancient traditions.
Eli’s piercing eyes bored into those around him with an intensity that was both captivating and terrifying.
Islinda didn’t even realize she was practically drooling over him until Eli reached her spot. It suddenly dawned on her that every other Fae in the room had prostrated before their high lord. She had been so mesmerized by his beauty that she remained standing, like a glaring anomaly in the sea of bowed figures.
Oh God. Islinda wished the ground would open up and swallow her whole. Her face flushed crimson as she hastily dropped to her knees, her heart pounding with a mix of embarrassment and fear. She dared not look up, hoping against hope that her lapse had gone unnoticed.
Her luck never worked in such a way. Everyone had noticed. Islinda sighed, this was quickly becoming a habit.
Eli’s intense gaze flickered with amusement as he paused before her, the faintest hint of a smirk playing on his lips.
The room was silent, the weight of his presence and the collective reverence of the Faeries creating an almost palpable tension.
"It’s nice to know that your beloved high Lord is so handsome he’s distracting," Eli said, his voice carrying a playful lilt. Though it might have come across as prideful, his true intent was to alleviate Islinda’s embarrassment.
For a moment, there was no reaction, the room holding its collective breath. Then, a single laugh echoed through the hall, breaking the tension. It was followed by another, and soon, the entire room was filled with a cacophony of laughter.
Islinda felt the heat of her embarrassment ebbing away as the Faeries laughed off her mishap. What had seemed like a mortifying mistake was now being transformed into a shared moment of amusement, thanks to Eli’s intervention.
She then looked up and saw the amused twinkle in Eli’s eyes. He winked at he, a playful yet silent reassurance that all was well. Islinda took a deep breath, feeling a huge sense of gratitude toward Eli for his kindness.
The laughter gradually subsided, and the atmosphere in the hall lightened.
"You may rise," Eli commanded, his voice smooth and authoritative, reverberating through the hall.
As Islinda got to her feet, she could sense the curious and judgmental glances from the other Faeries, their disdain for her thinly veiled behind their expressions of devotion to their prince. No one could look at her the wrong way now that Aldric was here. Cowards.
Thrilled, she dared a quick glance up and found Eli climbing the dais. When Eli sat on his throne, Islinda felt a surge of pride. To be honest, that position does fit him and she couldn’t help but wonder why she had been against it until now. Eli would make a fine king — as long as he had the right Faeries at his side and he doesn’t end up murdering his citizens at the slightest provocation. Yep, the dark Fae still had a long way to go.
Islinda was still staring at Aldric with such adoration in her eyes when she felt someone looking at her and turned only to discover it was Elena. She scowled at the Fae who scoffed at her in return. Fine, it wouldn’t be long now.
Once Aldric settled on his throne, court proceedings began at once. The hall, previously filled with the murmur of whispers and the echo of laughter, fell into a respectful silence. The ministers and high-ranking Faeries adjusted their seats, ready to attend to the matters at hand.
A herald stepped forward, his voice clear and commanding. "The court will now address the first order of business," he announced, unfurling a scroll with a practiced flourish. "The court issue of market prices between the Winter Court and the other Faerie courts."
As the discussion unfolded, Islinda realized how boring and tiring a court proceedings could be. She had assumed that once the meeting started, they will spend just a few minutes treating the realms matter and then moved on to Elena’s matter. However, reality was Far brutal than she had thought.
The meeting droned on for hours and Islinda must have dozed off because when she woke, it was evening and the meeting was still on. What in the Fae? Islinda wanted to cry especially when her stomach rumbled in hunger.
She could finally understand why Aldric was occupied on those days. Although there was entertaining moments during the meeting as Islinda realized as common with politics, there were opposing sides and they argued tirelessly to the point wished she was in the herald’s position so she could end this meeting.
On the other hand, she was treated to Eli’s charismatic demeanor while working. He exuded an aura of authority and composure. His gaze sharp, his demeanor unwavering as he listened to the arguments and counterarguments presented by the ministers. He was so charming. Islinda had fallen senselessly for the dark fae prince.
Throughout the proceedings, his decisions were met with nods of agreement or, occasionally, silent discontent. But no one dared to openly challenge him. His authority was absolute, his rule unquestioned.
The herald continued to guide the session, moving through the agenda with efficiency. Various issues were brought forth, from trade negotiations to internal disputes within the court. Each topic was given due consideration, with Aldric occasionally interjecting with his own insights and decisions.
In one word, Islinda found herself both fascinated and intimidated by the workings of the court. The Faeries spoke with eloquence and conviction, their words laced with layers of meaning and subtle power plays. It was a world she was still getting accustomed to, but one she knew she had to navigate carefully.
Finally, after what felt like hours, the herald announced the conclusion of the day’s session. "The court is adjourned until tomorrow," he declared.
The Faeries were just about to rise from their seats, when Eli disrupted their excitement by saying, "Apologies, but I’m afraid this is not the end. We have one lingering issue to deal with before we wrap things up." fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
Murmurs rose among the Faeries at that moment. Prince Aldric was unpredictable, which was why they threaded carefully around him. Everyone was fearful wondering what was up lest they become his latest victim.
Aldric announced," Someone in this hall attempted to manipulate me through a spell."
And chaos followed.
