Mated To The Cruel Prince-Chapter 890: The Rescue
Chapter 890: The Rescue
A Fae female dashed out of her home, clutching her child to her chest, her frantic screams piercing the air as she fled from a pack of goblins.
The twisted green creatures, their skin mottled and leathery, let out high-pitched crackles as they gained on her, their long, spindly limbs propelling them with disturbing speed.
Her heart pounded in her chest as panic surged through her. She could barely focus on where she was going, the only thought running through her mind was escape.
Her husband had died only moments ago, struck down in a desperate attempt to hold off the monsters when they first breached the city. He had told her to hide, and she had done so, retreating into a secret room behind a wardrobe in their small home. She had clutched her child tightly, trying to stay as quiet as possible, hoping the creatures would pass by.
But goblins were clever and persistent, known for sniffing out hiding places and using their crude magic to track down their prey. They found her.
Now, she ran for her life, but she knew it was only a matter of time before they caught her. Goblins might be small, but they were fast, and their cruel laughter echoed in her ears like a death knell.
She cast a glance over her shoulder, her stomach dropping when she saw they were closing the distance between them. This was a nightmare she wished she could wake up from.
Just hours ago, the city of Astaria had been peaceful, the streets filled with the usual hustle and bustle as Fae went about their duties. The ones who hadn’t gone to the arena placed bets and boasted about the upcoming death duel between the princes.
There were arguments, annoyance and laughter, until portals suddenly opened across different locations in the city and the invasion began.
Tamry Forest was a place of legend and horror. Monsters, long thought to be nothing more than bedtime stories meant to scare children into good behavior, had poured into the city, attacking without mercy.
The goblins might not be the strongest but they were feared because of their cruel intelligence and ability to swarm their enemies in overwhelming numbers making them deadly foes.
The barrier that had held them prisoner for God knows how long had crumbled, leaving them all vulnerable.
"Help me!" the Fae female screamed, throwing a desperate burst of fire at the goblins behind her.
It struck the first line of the creatures, and they fell with shrieks of pain, but it did little to slow the rest of the pack. They simply stepped over their fallen comrades, their hunger for her life undiminished.
She skidded to a stop, realizing too late that she had been herded. Ahead of her, another swarm of goblins was closing in, blocking her path. To her horror, she realized that they were coordinating, working together in some kind of hive mind to trap her. They had her cornered.
The woman spun around, her breath catching in her throat as she saw goblins coming from all sides, their twisted grins growing wider as they sensed victory.
She tightened her hold on her child, feeling her magic running low. Her legs trembled with exhaustion, but she knew she had to fight, even if it was a hopeless battle. She would go down protecting her child, as a Fae should.
With her free hand, she summoned a small flame, her final act of defiance as the goblins closed in.
Then, from a roof, a voice called out,
"Get down!"
The Fae didn’t hesitate.
Dropping to the ground, she shielded her child just as a figure landed in front of her. The impact of the landing sent a shockwave through the ground, and for a brief moment, everything seemed to slow down.
The newcomer who shockingly was a woman, slammed her spear into the earth, and a dome of dark energy formed around them. In the same instant, a wave of shadowy power erupted outward, cutting through the goblin swarm like a blade through flesh.
The creatures didn’t even have time to scream before they were torn apart, their bodies flung aside as if by an invisible force. Blood and gore splattered the ground, and within seconds, the battlefield was silent save for the sound of the wind rustling through the streets. freёwebnoѵel.com
The Fae female stared in horror at the carnage surrounding her. Goblin bodies littered the ground, their twisted forms now lifeless and broken. The air smelled of blood and decay, and the stillness that followed the violence was almost as terrifying as the attack itself. She swallowed, clutching her child to her chest.
The woman who had saved her turned, her eyes glowing with an eerie darkness that made her shiver. For a moment, the Fae didn’t know whether to thank her or fear her. This woman had dispatched the goblins with such terrifying efficiency that she seemed more like a force of nature than a person.
"Come, let’s go," the woman said, her voice calm, as if she hadn’t just wiped out an entire horde of monsters. Before the Fae could protest, the woman grabbed her arm, pulling her to her feet.
In one smooth motion, she summoned a portal. The Fae blinked in shock, trying to process what was happening. She had barely survived the goblins, and now she was being dragged into a mysterious portal by this strange, powerful woman.
"I—I don’t understand," the Fae stammered, her voice weak with fear and exhaustion. "Who are you?"
The woman glanced at her with bored eyes. "Hundreds of your kind have asked me that questions since this rescue began. But don’t worry, you’d know soon."
With no other choice, the Fae woman held her child close and stepped through the portal, hoping that wherever it led would be safer than the nightmare she had just escaped.
The woman who had rescued the Fae was no other than Islinda and they stepped stepped through the portal, emerging into a part of the city that had been transformed into a makeshift refugee camp.
