Chapter 73: Chapter 73

"What?!" Scarlet and Jasroslav asked at the same time, their eyes showing shock and evil contempt.

The grand hall, moments ago filled with the echo of Scarlet’s rage, plunged into a stunned silence.

Jasroslav’s jaw hung open, his face a mixture of disbelief and utter revulsion as he stared at Rose.

Scarlet, however, was a portrait of pure, unadulterated fury, her eyes blazing with an intensity that threatened to set the very air on fire.

Rose, though her heart hammered against her ribs from the sudden revelation, but she remained outwardly calm, Damien’s casual delivery of such a bombshell was entirely in character, yet it had sent shockwaves through the room.

Dabmond, standing protectively in front of Rose, merely raised an eyebrow at Damien. "I planned to keep our relationship a secrete, brother. Now everyone knows." That was the only quick cover-up he coukd think of, if not, the whole kingdom might just be marching to the castle and demanding that Rose be discarded, or worse...killed.

He saw Jasroslav’s and Scarlet’s faces change from shock to a disdainful smirk. It worked.

Damon, ever the instigator, chuckled. "Why beat around the bush, Dabmond? It’s a truth that needed to be aired, especially for those who clearly haven’t been paying attention." He cast a pointed look at Scarlet and Jasroslav. However, only the three brothers and Rose knew that he wasn’t speaking about what Dabmond had said, he was talking about the real bond between Cassius and Rose.

Scarlet finally found her voice, a mocking sneer. "A human? Don’t get me wrong, cousin, but, she will be a taint to you status. However, I’m glad it’s not the king who took her as a mate. Cassius would never. He would never shame our family with a... a slave, a blood bag!" Her voice turned to disdainful. "If he needs a mate, we all know who it should be."

"Yeah, he loves Elowen. He’s always loved Elowen." Damien said again.

"What?" Rose asked in a small voice.

"You don’t know what you’re talking about," Scarlet chuckled nervously, "Is it true, father? Was it love between them?" She held Jasroslav’s hand, her eyes begging him to tell her otherwise.

Jasroslav, regaining his composure, stepped forward, his expression grave. "Damien, you should be more careful about how you speak. The way you said it, we all believed that the king has taken his human slave as a mate... it would have been a grave accusation. If true, it could spark a war within our kingdom. Our traditions, our very bloodlines... they forbid such unions. Bridle your tongue, young prince." He said calmly, his calculating eyes scanning between the brothers and Rose, who was now standing beside Dabmond.

Damien shrugged, a nonchalant smile playing on his lips. "Well, even though it’s not the king who’s mated to her, he had practically marked her during the welcome ceremony, Uncle. Even if it’s as a slave, it’s obvious that he would have taken her as a maye if Dabmond hadn’t. Everyone knows that there’s a connection, a spark. He might just break the ancient tradition to protect her from anyone who plans to come between them -"

"Hey, easy, brother. This is my mate you’re talking about. Enough," Dabmond cut in, placing his hand on Rose’s back.

Scarlet scoffed, "You don’t have to worry, Damien, the king will never see her more than the salve she is. Oh, and my dear poor cousin..." she stepped closer to Danmond, her eyes twinkling with wicjed satisfaction, "It’s good you’ve not marked her. It’s not too late to reject her." She advised, smirking at Rose.

Dabmond smiled, taking Rose’s hand in his, "Reject?" He chuckled and kissed the back of Rose’s hand, "I’m planninb to claim her in front of the entire court, a declaration of our mate-ship, I don’t know what rejection mean, Scarlet, I’d be a fool to reject such a damsel -"

"But, she’s your brother’s slave, he pleasures himself with her! Are you not disgusted by that?" She was seething now.

She couldn’t come to terms that rwo prominent vampires fancied the human slave she so much despised.

Dabmond loomed at his two brothers, a smirk playing in their lips, "We don’s mind sharing, Scarlet. I’ll wait until he declares her free, then I shall mark her." He surprised Rose by leaning down to kiss her cheek.

"This is good. At least, the protest going on in the kingdim will cease. I will spread the word that the human slave is nothing but a slave to the king. And they shall learn that she is fancied by one of the young princes," Jasroslav said, oulling his daughter cloae to himself.

"We are here to see the king, and wesorry for causing trouble for the young princes," Jasroslav bowed his head, tugging Scarlet’s hand and forcjng her to bow her head, too.

"Take your daughter home, Jasroslav. The king is not in. Even if he was, he’d be busy pleasuring himself with me and wouldn’t have time to see your ugky daughter," Roae spoke up after a long time.

It was good that Dabmond had claimed her as his temporary mate. That way, some of her actions wouldn’t get directly questioned and suspected.

It was a shame she never got to test any of her elements on Scarlet... perhaps next time.

Scarlet glared so hard, her nails digging into her palms, "You fucking bitch. This isn’t over, I’ll make you regret the day you set foot in this castle. I promise." She sneered flipped her hair as she turned and walked out of the grand hall, her heels echoing around the space. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

Jasroslav stared at Rose for a while before he bowed to the princes and followed his daughter out.

"Wheew, that was close," Damien sighed in relief.

"If only you could keep your losse mouth shut. You almost risked everything," Damon frowned.

"My apologies, Rose. I and my brothers only meant well. You are one of us now, and we protect our own. I might have overstepped some boundaries, but I mean no harm," Dabmond spoke softly, his head bowed slightly in respect.

Rose sighed, "I understand. It’s okay, and I appreciate your help. However..." she glanced at Damien, "Did...no, does Cassius really love Elowen?" She questioned, clutching the cloth bag in her hand.

Everyone turned to Damien, his brothers watching him with narrowed eyes.

Damien scratched the side of his head, "Of course not. I just said that to get on Scarlet’s nerves. She sees Elowen as her biggest competitor, until you showed up. Our brother never loved Elowen, it was just necessary instincts." He answered seriously.

Rose bit her lower lip, her mind and heart refusing to believe Damien.

"Thank you," she murmured and turned to Dabmond, "Can you take me to my new room?"

Dabmond smirked, "Chamber, you mean?" He asked, taking her hand and leading her up the stairs.

"She doesn’t know yet," Damien whispered to Damon.

"Why are you whispering?" Damon asked, raising his brows.

"Nothing," Damien replied.

Rose smiled, finding it ridiculous that she was comfortable amidst three handsome vampires. It was the way they acted like casual college guys that brushed her guards down, even when Cassius was being cold and unfeeling, the three brothers never made her feel like an outcast.

She suddenly paused as she realised that she was bring toward Cassius’s chamber.

"Why are we going up to his chambers?" She stopped walking, staring up at Dabmond.

"You asked us to take you to your new room. That’s what we’re doing, your majesty," Dabmond replied.

"Come on, Rose. Let’s get you settled, he’ll be back soon," Damon said and walked down the stairs, gently pushing Rose up the stairs.

Rose allowed herself to be led up the stairs, and iast Cassius’s door, walking further down the hallway way.

"In here, your majesty," Dabmond stood in front of a double door, pushing one side of it.

"Go ahead," Damien gently tugged Rose inside the room.

Rose stepped into large room, her jaws dropping with how lavishly everything was.

The canopy queen-sized bed in the center made her believe that she had really migrated into her novel. Nothing was different from how it was described in gmher novel "Mated To The Dead Prince".

She got scared, realisation slowly dawning on her.

Was she about to repeat history? To poison Cassius?

She shook her head. Her story was totally different, Claudia hadn’t been Cassius’s mate, she was just a lover who tried to force a mate bone on him.

The novel never clearly said who poisoned Cassius; Rose was never going to let justify repeat itself. She knew Cassius had a lot of enemies but she was here now and she wasn’t about to let anything happen to him.

Perhaps this was her reason for transmigrating to him.

"You don’t like the room?" Damon asked behind her.

Rose slowly blinked, taking a deep breath, "No, I love it." She smiled, looking over the large mirror beside bed, her reflection staring back at her like a stranger.

She couldn’t believe that a normal girl from the streets of New York was on her way to becoming a queen in some ancient dark kingdom.

"You’re not welcome here," Cassius moved into the room like a shadow, his eyes eyes falling to Rose through the mirror.

Rose’s breath hitched, but not from fear, no, her pulse fluttered deliciously as she set her eyes on her alluring, handsome mate.

"We were just bringing her to her new room. A favour you should be grateful -"

"We will be leaving now, brother," Dabmond bowed to Cassius and tugged his twin brothers out of the room, closing the door as the left.

Rose stood still, eyes locked on Cassius through through the mirror.

Slowly, Cassius strode closer, stopping right behind her. Without speaking, he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her in, his nose burying in the crook of her neck.

"I missed you, my lady," His voice was a soft whisper against her skin.

Rose shivered, leaning into him, momentarily forgetting all the thoughts that swarmed head. She sighed softly as she felt his lips grazing her neck.

"I sense your worry, my lady. Allow me to remind you who I belong to," He whispered, his hands trailing her curves, coming up to cup her breasts.

Rose shuddered deliciously, "Cassius -"

"No words
