Chapter 144: Help me! {2}
The moment he was finally alone with Violet, who lay unmoving on the bed, Cain sank into the only chair that had been placed closer to the bed with his left hand under his jaw, his legs lightly tapping impatiently on the ground as he waited for her to wake up. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
The seconds ticked away. Regardless, his gaze was fixed completely on her pale face and even paler lips as she continued to lie there until finally, her fingers twitched, followed by her eyelids, which signified that she had woken up.
Yet, Cain didn’t move closer as he continued to sit deathly still in his chair. Even the sound of his breathing was nonexistent as he waited for her to fully wake up, which she soon did.
Her arm muscles were the first to move as she slowly lifted her upper body off the bed, her head bobbing from side to side in confusion right before she raised her hand and ripped off the piece of cloth that had been tied around her eyes.
Her expression dulled the instant she did as she looked around, waving her hands in front of her eyes, only to realize that she was completely and utterly blind. Instantly, her entire body went completely still, almost like she remembered exactly what had happened, her body trembling from head to toe, her fists balled together by her side.
Her mouth dropped open to let out a sob as she opened her mouth to speak. "A-anyone!" her voice hoarse but lighter than she was used to, raising her fingers to her neck, where she realized that the band had been removed.
Almost like an afterthought, she hurriedly rushed to place her hands between her thighs and over her body, almost like she was trying to confirm just how bad her body was or if she was still dreaming, especially since she felt absolutely no pain.
"A-anyone! Is anyone there?" Violet called out in an even louder tone, her head continuing to move from side to side, her face etched with worry when the only thing that responded was the silence that seemed to fill the air around her. This only became more frightening as she pushed the bed covers off her body and struggled to feel the edges of the bed as she moved to get off.
"Is-is someone there!" her voice louder and on the edge of panic itself as her hands trembled even more. She opened her mouth and screamed, "A-anyone! Help me!" screaming even louder in fear when it became clear that she was completely and utterly alone.
Unable to see a thing, she clenched her hands tighter against the sheets as she looked around, reaching for her eyes, where a shocking sort of pain was slowly starting to sink into them—eyes she recalled with horror had already been removed.
"Please! Anyone!" she begged as her knees buckled, and she slowly sank to the ground, even as she tried to cry, only to feel crippling pain that made her sink her face into the sheets instead. She gasped, unable to do anything, as she clenched harder against the sheets, her nails digging right into the palms of her hands, only for her to clench even harder than before.
"A-anyone!" she gasped, her voice raw with pain as she lay against the side of the bed, kneeling on the ground. Even as she whispered, her voice was hoarse and raw in a harsh whisper. "Cain!" she called out, even as the pain spreading over her eyes slowly worsened until it felt like she was being stabbed with needles over and over again.
She wasn’t expecting a response and was beyond stupefied when she got one. She had just spoken when she heard a familiar voice speak from what seemed to be the other side of the bed from where she knelt on the ground.
"You should get back on the bed!"
"Ca-Cain!" she stuttered out, shocked beyond words, having assumed that she was the only one in the room after having spoken without getting any sort of response for a long while.
"Ca-Cain," she stuttered in shock again, scrambling back on the bed as she looked right in his direction, only to see nothing but darkness.
"Ca-Cain? Is that you?" she asked again with a hint of panic and hope in her voice as she spoke, a wave of relief moving through her as she heard him speak again.
"You should lie down and—" Cain began to speak, only to be cut off as he watched Violet dart off the bed, running straight towards where he was seated with passion, fear, and a mix of other emotions as she scrambled around trying to touch him.
"Is-is that really you?" she asked, even as the pain in her eyes increased as the urge to cry swelled in her, unable to.
"Is it really you?" she cried out and wailed, even as a wave of new emotions shot right through her body and soul. She grabbed hold of him, praying and hoping that she wasn’t stuck in a dream. Just as she held his hand, her hands strayed up towards his face.
She had just touched him when she suddenly felt her hand being grabbed and held back, even as she was lifted up and off the ground before being tossed back on the bed more gently than she expected.
Violet didn’t want to lie down, and she had just tried to get back up when she felt him pull up the bed covers and tuck them right over her as he held her down.
"Lie down and get some sleep!" But Violet simply shook her head. The darkness she saw that seemed to surround her made her feel like her chest was going to cave in from how hard her heart was pounding.
"Ple-please! Don’t!" she begged in a loud voice, even as her panic increased. For all she knew, it could be a dream, and Cain wasn’t actually there.
"NO!" she screamed louder, the sound shrill enough to carry. "NO! NO! LET ME GO!" she screamed, even as she felt a heavy hand on her body that prevented her from being able to move or get up as she wanted to.
"GET OFF ME!" she screamed in anger and panic as the pain in her eyes slowly began to double in a way that made her want to scream even louder than she already was.
"HELP ME! SOMEBODY HELP ME!"
