Chapter 96: Kill Me!

"Ple—"

"That will depend on whether or not you continue to lie to me!" Cain responded as he sat back on the chair with a huge frown on his face, staring down at her.

"Tell me everything!" Cain ordered, and Violet immediately nodded and began to speak. From the start, she spoke about her father’s debt and how she had almost become a whore but had only been able to avoid it by promising to become a spy instead.

Her body shaking in fear as she spoke, not daring to look up and meet Cain’s eyes, even as his tone betrayed none of the emotions he felt.

"You didn’t want to become a whore?" Cain asked her, to which Violet nodded her head. "I’d rather die!" she mumbled under her breath, even as she continued to speak.

"He’s a Red!" Violet said, hesitating to say his name as she again thought of what Rexter would do to her the second he found out that she told Cain all about him.

"...Please...If you let me go! You’ll never see me again! I swear it! I’ll disappear to another district!" she rapidly began to speak, speaking even faster as she watched Cain get to his feet and move closer to where she sat on the floor, squatting with both legs open in front of her.

"I promise! Our paths would..." the words dying in her throat as she watched Cain raise his hands to touch her cheeks ever so gently, his fingers sliding against the bottom of her lips as he looked at her.

His golden-brown eyes filled with something she found hard to describe but which she would like nothing but to distance herself away from.

"You don’t have to tell me who you’re spying for. Honestly, I don’t care! But tell me this, did you enjoy our time together?" he asked, his voice soft as his gaze strayed over to the side in a way that made it difficult for her to see the expressions on his face.

"Don’t lie to me. I can hear your heartbeat when it changes, but that doesn’t mean I can read it," his face mostly devoid of any emotion whatsoever as he waited for her to speak. Violet, her face scrunched up in confusion, immediately answered, knowing better than to delay.

Forcing her heartbeat to steady as she opened her mouth to lie, knowing better than to say the truth to the man that had just cut up her face and chopped up her parents’ fingers. Whatever she had felt was gone, and she’d be the biggest fool in the world if she was to hint that there was still something there to be found.

"No! Never! I’m scared of you! I felt nothing more!" Violet slowly responded, even as she felt the very air around her slowly chill. A glance at Cain’s eyes, and she noted the way his eyes turned a little red, so much so that she thought it was the trick of the barest light the cell had.

Surprised to see him immediately stand back up, dusting his pants like there was dust attached to them, before going into the box to pull out a longer knife, one that instantly made her gasp as she heard him speak.

"Well...since there’s nothing more to talk about, you might as well die!" turning around to face her with the knife in his hand, while Violet felt like her heart was seconds away from a heart attack as she saw the most cruel expression she had ever seen on Cain’s face.

More animalistic than human, clenching the knife like he would like nothing more than to hurt her. He dashed forward, and Violet screamed...screaming as hard as she could, even though she couldn’t regret the words she had just spoken.

"Cain!" she yelled, only to feel him hold her down by her neck as he slowly moved the knife to the tip of her neck.

"Maybe you’re right! Maybe I truly am a monster!" he softly spoke, but Violet’s panic was too far gone for her to make out the words as she realized that regardless of all the time she had spent serving him, Cain was prepared to kill her like it was nothing.

"Don’t—" she begged, meeting his eyes and seeing nothing but anger in them as he dug the blade into her skin.

"...Regardless...I promise that you won’t feel a thing!" he continued to speak, even as Violet felt his arm tighten around her neck, her hand darting up to block the knife, leaving a gash on her palm which she ignored, only to have her hands pressed down too.

Seeing as Cain had made his decision, Violet was convinced she was going to die when she suddenly heard a guard speak from the doorway, a familiar voice.

"Lord Cain! A message came from the sender!" he said, his words cryptic on purpose. Violet felt Cain’s weight disappear off her the next second as he moved towards the door to collect an envelope from Frank, who knelt on the ground and handed it over before disappearing, not sparing a glance in Violet’s direction as she sat on the ground coughing her lungs out.

Violet, with burning anger in the pit of her stomach, glared at Cain as he read the letter before he tore it into pieces and turned back to look at her with the knife still in his hands.

"I hate the day I ever laid eyes on you!" she said, knowing that she didn’t even have to lie since it was nothing but the truth. "I thought you were not as bad as the rumors, but...the rumors should be scared of you!"

"YOU—you are so much worse!" she spat at him. If she was going to die regardless of whatever she did, then she might as well die cursing him with her last breath, her purple eyes blazing with fury that only got more intense when she saw Cain chuckle lightly in response, almost like he enjoyed watching her curse at him.

Her face paling ever so slightly as she saw him move closer to her, even as she scrambled off the ground and towards the bed, trying to put some distance between them, only to get to the wall. Her chains making it impossible for her to run farther, even if she wanted to.

"KILL ME! KILLING IS ALL YOU’LL EVER BE GOOD AT!" she yelled at him, even though all she wanted to do was cry, the fear palpable in her tone as her voice shook when she spoke as she felt Cain stop right in front of her, hovering over her with his gaze fixed firmly on her.
