Miss Truth-Chapter 477 - 312: Dealing with Qing Luo
Chapter 477: Chapter 312: Dealing with Qing Luo
After dinner, the two of them took a stroll in the rear garden. Qing Luo came over and said, "Master, Lady, the bath is ready."
Xiao Song’s shining eyes looked at Ran Yan, his intentions extremely obvious, "This husband is quite energetic right now."
Let’s take a bath together...
"You go ahead. I’ll go back to the room to get some things," Ran Yan said as her cheeks burned at the thought of the nakedness from the night before, and she hurriedly walked away.
Just a few steps out, Ran Yan saw Qing Luo still standing in the original spot, and she instantly became annoyed. She stopped in her tracks and said in an even tone, "Qing Luo, why aren’t you leaving?"
"Yes!" Qing Luo quickly followed with large strides.
As Ran Yan walked, she pondered. Judging by Qing Luo’s behavior these past two days, she seemed unable to keep her composure, yet Ran Yan didn’t believe the person Madam Gao had sent would be without schemes. Most likely, she wanted to appear naive to make herself seem easy to control.
Entering the bedroom, Ran Yan didn’t rush to do anything else but rather knelt down on the mat and poured herself a cup of water.
In the room, only Ran Yan and Qing Luo were present, accompanied by the sound of water being poured.
"Lady, I’ll go prepare your clothing," Qing Luo said, looking at Ran Yan’s expressionless face, feeling somewhat intimidated.
"No need," Ran Yan sipped her water, set down the cup, and spoke indifferently, "Wan Lu will have everything ready... What do you think of Assistant Minister Xiao?"
Qing Luo was taken aback slightly; Ran Yan’s change of topic was too abrupt, and she had referred to him as "Assistant Minister Xiao". Qing Luo paused before responding, "This slave dares not judge rashly."
"Is that so? Then what do you think your status is?" Ran Yan’s black eyes stared intently at her.
Struggling to maintain composure, Qing Luo thought quickly about how to answer, "This slave is the Lady’s maid."
"That’s not all you think, is it? Didn’t Wan Lu tell you that I didn’t bring along any accompanying maids as part of my dowry?" Ran Yan was direct in her questioning, without any beat around the bush, "I’m afraid the Gao family didn’t tell you that."
"Lady!" Qing Luo’s legs weakened, and she fell to her knees, exclaiming, "Although this slave comes from the main house, I harbor no disloyalty toward the Lady."
Qing Luo knew of the irreconcilable animosity between Madam Gao and Ran Yan and purposefully sidestepped mentioning Madam Gao, simply saying she came from the main house. Even though Ran Yan was aware that she belonged to Madam Gao, bringing it up now would only add fuel to the fire.
Ran Yan had already run out of patience to waste time on her and said coldly, "You were originally a maid of Madam Gao, weren’t you?"
This fact was undeniable, so Qing Luo could only stiffen up and nod reluctantly.
"It’s good you admit it," Ran Yan said, reaching for another cup from the tea tray on the table, filling it with water, and then taking out a packet of white powder from her sleeve. She poured it into the cup, gave it a gentle swirl, and then dripped a drop onto the floor.
With a sizzle, the water made a sharp noise, emitting white foam, and quickly seeped into the floorboard.
"You now have two choices," Ran Yan continued, pushing the cup toward her and folding her arms, "The first is to drink this cup of poison... don’t worry, it’s not ordinary poison. It won’t cause unbearable pain, your appearance won’t be compromised after death, and the forensic doctor won’t be able to detect it. Both you and I will be well off. The second is, I’ll find a suitable person for you to marry within these next few days."
"Lady, if this slave has done anything to displease you, this slave will change. Please grant me another chance!" Qing Luo pleaded urgently.
Ran Yan’s expression was unmoved, "There’s no mistake, I simply don’t like you. Your presence suffocates me, so you’re either dismissed or executed."
"Lady, this slave will change in the future, I won’t annoy you..."
As Qing Luo lay prostrate on the floor, she stopped mid-sentence at the sound of a ’thud’, the cup forcefully set on the table, the water splashing out with a sizzling noise.
"Don’t test my patience. Giving you such choices is already the full extent of my kindness. Save your tears, they are useless to me. It’s more helpful for you to consider pragmatic options," said Ran Yan coldly.
Qing Luo held back any sound and after a silent moment, slowly rose to her feet, her hands trembling as she reached for the cup of poison on the table. She felt that although she was just a lowly maid, Ran Yan wouldn’t commit such an act during the honeymoon period; it would reflect poorly on both the Xiao Family and the Ran Family if it came to light.
Ran Yan watched Qing Luo impassively, not missing the brief look of resolute desperation that flickered in her eyes—a bet placed on her life.
But the gamble clearly showed a lack of understanding of Ran Yan; the cup was already at her lips, yet Ran Yan made no move to intervene.
...
After a silent moment, Qing Luo realized that this seemingly delicate Lady was much more decisive and ruthless than she had imagined. Silently, she placed the teacup back on the table and slowly knelt before Ran Yan, "This slave is at the Lady’s mercy."
