Miss Witch's Devotion Has Gone… Twisted-Chapter 194: The Village
"So what did the God of Happiness give you?"
Loren's expression didn't change much. He was already too tired to care about these people. Later, he just needed to inform the Bountiful Church, and the Church would come and sweep this place clean.
"The God of Happiness lets us 'have enough to eat and wear, and obtain true happiness.'"
"Hard to hold back laughter. Didn't you grow the grain yourselves? Didn't you make the clothes yourselves? What the hell does it have to do with the God of Happiness?"
"Don't block my way. I'm leaving."
Loren tried to push past him and leave, but the man blocked his path.
"Sorry, Master Mentor. You cannot leave until we confirm you have converted to the God of Happiness."
"You know me?"
Hearing the man call him Master Mentor, Loren laughed in exasperation.
The Priest had indeed called him that, but this man didn't need to copy it. Since he addressed Loren this way, it was highly likely he knew Loren.
"Of course, who doesn't know the name of the Master Mentor? However, the God of Happiness is the one upon whom all hopes rest. Destiny lies with the God of Happiness. He will ultimately rule all humanity, ensuring only happiness exists in the mortal world."
"Alright, alright, destiny rests with him, is it? Let me see how much fate favors you."
"Laila, lend me your revolver."
"Okay."
After taking Laila's revolver, Loren opened the cylinder, ejected five bullets, leaving only one inside.
"If you survive, I'll convert."
Loren spun the cylinder. While it was spinning rapidly, he snapped it back into place.
Then Loren returned the revolver to Laila and loaded the bullets he had taken out into the magazine of his own pistol.
Laila, who had just taken back the revolver, was stunned for a moment. She thought Loren was going to play Russian roulette with him, but it turned out like this.
The surrounding people showed little reaction to this. The man also continued to smile at Loren, watching Loren point the gun at him without even blinking.
Seeing that the Priest could not be persuaded, his parents took out knives, preparing to kill him right then.
Loren fired. The man was not favored by the gods. The bullet pierced his forehead, and he fell straight to the ground, a smile still hanging on his face even in death.
He truly hadn't received anything from the God of Happiness. To save money, Laila's bullets were all ordinary ones. If he had possessed any combat ability at all, he couldn't have been killed so easily.
The other people around weren't frightened by Loren's gunshot either. After the man died, they actually cheered.
"The Bishop has returned to the embrace of the God of Happiness!"
Loren's smile vanished. He felt his series of actions were utterly meaningless. They were just a bunch of walking corpses.
"Thicket of Thorns!"
Requiem plunged into the ground, and immediately, thorns began to grow frantically from it as the center. Within a few breaths, they enveloped all the believers, trapping them within.
Many people's skin was cut by the thorns, but their expressions still showed little change.
Loren couldn't be bothered to kill them either. Killing ordinary people didn't yield much experience and might accumulate sin. So, he walked over to the Priest and freed him from the cross.
"I came specifically to deal with the evil god. I still need to travel. I'll leave this place to you."
"Thank you, Master Mentor..."
The Priest, with trembling hands, drew the Sprout of New Life over his chest. Then he picked up the dagger his parents had just thrown down and walked up to them.
"How dare you betray the God of Bountiful Harvest!"
He raised the dagger and, without hesitation, stabbed it into his mother's eye. One stab wasn't enough to vent his anger. He stabbed down again and again, flesh and blood flying.
"..."
Followers of Orthodox Gods and followers of Evil Gods are no different. They're all just fanatics.
"Let's go."
Loren led everyone through the thicket of thorns and boarded the carriage.
The Priest continued his slaughter. These cultists of the evil god were all restrained by Loren. He just executed them one by one with the dagger, even though he was already extremely weak.
...
The carriage continued to race across the wilderness. Loren had now left the territory of the God of Bountiful Harvest. Outside was a desolate wasteland, with many corpses of people or beasts even lying along the road.
Ever since witnessing the Happiness Believers abducting children, Movila's mood had been very low.
Loren never knew how to comfort people. Otherwise, that incident where he tried to comfort Sylvia and ended up breaking her defenses wouldn't have happened.
"Aooo..."
Suddenly, an extremely penetrating howl came from the distance. The sound carried a sense of pressure. The horse pulling the carriage was startled, its steps becoming chaotic.
"Don't be afraid. I can protect you."
Loren spoke to soothe it. The previously chosen talent, Everything Has a Spirit, took effect. After being soothed by Loren, the horse's steps steadied.
The source of the sound was probably a Magical Beast. Magical Beasts were the main threat in this world, but Loren's starting point was too high. Current Magical Beasts simply couldn't pose a threat to him, so Loren wasn't panicked at all.
Even if a Magical Beast really came, the worst case was just cutting it down with one slash.
The carriage continued forward. Several strangely shaped wolves charged from ahead. Under Loren's soothing, the horse didn't panic.
Those wolves had spikes growing on their heads, but before they could demonstrate their special features, Crimson Blade sliced them in half. Killing these two low-level Magical Beasts, Loren could barely even see his experience bar increase.
Loren proceeded at full speed and finally, in the afternoon, reached the vicinity of the destination. The scenery here became familiar to Movila.
"Master Mentor, we're here. It's just ahead, not far."
"Mhm."
Loren parked the carriage a good distance away from the village. The carriage made a lot of noise. To avoid alerting the enemy, Loren planned to go in on foot.
"You all stay here. Movila and I will go in to check the situation. If anything happens, fire the gun. If I hear gunshots, I'll come back immediately."
After settling everyone, Loren walked towards the direction of the village.
Movila also split into crows again at this moment, six in total. Some flew in first, the rest perched on Loren's shoulders and head.
The village was very quiet, not a living soul in sight, and there was quite a lot of bloodstains.
"Was this village massacred?"
Loren thought of what Movila had said before. If the Bountiful Church discovered this place, it wasn't impossible they really sent people to massacre the village.
If only it were that simple. Loren had been feeling a sense of unease. Loren's intuition was very high;he wouldn't dismiss this as just scaring himself.
It was at this moment Loren heard a painful groan coming from inside the village.
"Master Mentor, there's a group of children in the center of the village."
Movila's clone saw the scene inside the village and promptly informed Loren.
"Let's go take a look..."
After walking just a few steps, Loren saw those children. They were nailed to crosses. These crosses were arranged in a circle.
Loren hadn't done much to disguise himself. One of the children recognized Loren. He opened his mouth wide and, using the last of his strength, shouted two words.
"Run fast!"
