Miss Witch's Devotion Has Gone… Twisted-Chapter 197: Search
"Let's search this place. We should be able to find some things related to the God of Happiness. We can use that to locate the God of Happiness later. At the very least, we can provide more clues to the Church..."
The God of Happiness is very likely an Angel, which is quite dangerous. Loren doesn't plan to take that risk for now. He only wants to reap the benefits, leaving the dangerous work for the Church to handle.
Even though he holds a high position within the Bountiful Church, Loren doesn't consider himself a member at all. He even thinks about stabbing the Bountiful Church in the back from time to time.
If the Bountiful Church suffers heavy losses dealing with the God of Happiness, Loren would be quite pleased.
Loren waved his hand towards the sky. Many crows landed around him, coalescing into a human form. A slender young girl appeared before Loren. She brushed aside her pink-blue hair and smiled at him.
This was Movila's true appearance. She only looked like a young girl because her soul was insufficient.
"Master Mentor..."
Movila's expression was somewhat shy. She clutched the hem of her skirt. Letting Loren see her true form for the first time made her a little embarrassed.
Her height was similar to Naclis's, giving off an older sister vibe. Most crucially, she was much more developed than Naclis in certain areas.
"You should change back to your child form. Someone has seen you by my side before. An extra girl appearing around me won't raise much suspicion; they'll just think I'm helping another disadvantaged person again. But you suddenly growing up would definitely cause suspicion."
"Master Mentor is right. For our safety, you should turn back into a child."
Naclis quickly agreed with Loren's words. Movila didn't really have any objections to this.
"Alright."
Several crows flew out from Movila's body. Simultaneously, her body began to shrink, finally reverting to the form of a child.
"Movila, I, Anna, and Laila will search underground. The others will search the buildings above. With Movila's crows keeping watch, I'll be able to detect if anything happens immediately."
The people Loren chose were the bolder ones. The scene on the ground was probably just the severed limbs and pieces Anna left behind, but what lay below was a different story.
These Happiness Believers couldn't have been inactive for so long. Since Movila never saw anything, it meant their rituals were all conducted underground. Loren was very familiar with the methods of these cultists of evil gods.
The scene below would only be more brutal than above.
Loren remembered the spot where those believers had emerged earlier. That was the entrance to the underground, hidden very discreetly. If Loren hadn't seen it, it would have been hard to find.
"There might still be ambushes below. Be extra careful."
Loren moved the cover aside, revealing the passageway leading downward. Loren went down first, with the others following closely behind.
The space below was vast. In fact, this was the real stronghold, with various passageways extending in all directions, forming a maze.
Seeing the scene below, Loren realized their small group was far from enough:
"Movila, send more crows down."
Although Movila wasn't very proficient as a human, she was very experienced as a bird. Having lived in crow form for years, her flying skills even surpassed many real birds. Even in such complex terrain, she wouldn't be hindered.
"Understood."
The passage to the underground was now open. The crows could fly directly in through the entrance. While the crows searched the entire underground maze, Loren and the others also chose a direction to proceed.
Soon, Loren found an altar. After seeing what was here clearly, Laila immediately vomited:
"Ugh..."
Loren could understand her reaction. There was a hollowed-out body here. The brain had been completely extracted and preserved in some unknown solution, placed in the center of the corpses on the altar. The corpses were surrounded by internal organs. Some ritual had just taken place here, as the bloodstains weren't completely dry yet.
"..."
Loren was already used to such scenes. Anna didn't have much of a reaction either, but her anger was gradually igniting.
The group continued forward, arriving at another room. This was also an altar, with many children's corpses on it.
In other places, Loren also saw many cages containing corpses that hadn't been cleared away in time. The corpses were already rotting and emitting a foul smell.
Before waiting for Movila to return, they had made many preparations, such as killing or sacrificing all the living people here.
Judging by the number of corpses, Loren concluded that there must have been more than one village where children frequently went missing.
"What's in the other places?"
"Similar to here..."
Movila's expression was extremely grim. Most of the underground consisted of prison cells and altars. Those Happiness Believers generally lived above ground, putting on an innocent facade. There were even many symbols of the God of Bountiful Harvest in the village. Loren guessed they had made offerings to the God of Bountiful Harvest as well.
"How are things above ground?"
With Movila, it was like having countless mobile wards. Movila's ability to gather information was unmatched.
Each crow was a fragment of Movila's soul, allowing for instantaneous information exchange. What a crow saw on the other side of the continent one second, Movila would know at the same moment. Movila essentially covered one of Loren's few weaknesses.
Most of Loren's information came from his own memories. He didn't know much about current events, such as the situation with the God of Happiness.
With Movila, Loren basically didn't have to worry about these things.
Unlike Loren's Abyssal Gaze Eye, Movila's crows didn't place much burden on her. Strictly speaking, each soul fragment was an independent entity, all being Movila's true self. She didn't need to expend that much mental energy.
"Everything's normal. Scarlett is still being timid. Mirrorheart is taking care of her. The others are searching, but no valuable discoveries have been made. The area above is just ordinary living quarters."
"Good."
Loren remained on high alert. There should still be other people underground, such as the Church of Confusion operating behind the scenes.
If there was a god who posed the least threat to Loren, it was the God of Confusion. Its authority simply couldn't affect Loren, just like in the Prison of Sin Spire before. You can never interfere with the thoughts of the player controlling the character.
Since there were the Observer's Tarot cards, the Prison of Sin Spire's level of existence probably wasn't low either. If the Prison of Sin Spire was ineffective against Loren, then the God of Confusion would be the same.
Loren didn't find many useful things. These believers were very cautious, rarely leaving anything behind.
"Look for hidden passages."
If there were any truly important things, they would have hidden them away. Just after saying this, Loren discovered a hidden door. The door's color was very similar to the wall, with very small seams. Combined with the dim lighting here, ordinary people would never notice it.
