Miss Witch's Devotion Has Gone… Twisted-Chapter 231: The Banquet
"This carriage is truly luxurious. I wonder how much blood had to be sucked to afford it."
Loren sat in the car, legs crossed, and suddenly spoke up.
The vampire driving didn't reply. She knew what Loren meant.
Loren was speaking the truth. Vampires didn't participate in production; they lived by sucking blood. Here, 'sucking blood' was both a literal description and a metaphor.
The scenery outside the window flashed by. Loren saw many homeless people.
"I also wonder how many people it takes to support a single vampire."
"I would prefer if you would address us as the Bloodline."
The vampire in the driver's seat suddenly spoke. In their eyes, the term 'vampire' was a derogatory slur. In their view, they were the superior race, the perfect beings, not some 'vampires'.
"You're not worthy."
Loren stated bluntly. The vampire instantly gripped the steering wheel tighter. Loren even heard something crack.
"We will arrive at our destination shortly."
She couldn't refute him, nor did she dare to. She could only change the subject.
"Getting upset?"
After uttering these two words, the car suddenly began to shake violently. Fortunately, the vampire adjusted in time, otherwise there really would have been an accident.
To prevent any trouble, Loren decided to be quiet for a while. He had said enough anyway.
"We're here."
The destination wasn't far, but this journey felt unbearably torturous to her.
"Good. I'll head in first. You go park the car."
"Wait! You haven't taken the invitation!"
"I'll use my face."
The vampire's hand, holding out the invitation, hung in mid-air, and was eventually withdrawn.
Loren was right. He really could enter any venue just by showing his face. If he were ever stopped, it would simply mean the place wasn't high-class enough.
"Food!"
Anna hopped and skipped behind Loren. The others were much more reserved, but overall, none of them took this place seriously either. None wore formal attire, making the group look completely out of place.
At the entrance to the venue, a maid was checking invitations. Her crimson eyes indicated she was also a vampire.
Most of those attending this banquet were vampires.
Guests lined up, each undergoing inspection. When the maid saw Loren, she didn't choose to check him. Instead, she directly stepped aside:
"Welcome. We wish you a pleasant evening, Master Mentor."
At first, others murmured discontent about Loren's privilege, but upon hearing the maid's address for him, they immediately shut their mouths.
The interior of the banquet hall was extremely opulent. Even though electricity existed here, most of the light sources in the hall were extravagant candles. As they burned, the candles emitted a fragrant scent. These were no ordinary candles.
The banquet was a buffet. Food was arranged around the periphery, with a large central area for people to mingle and exchange interests.
They weren't eating much food. Instead, everyone held a wine glass containing blood.
Several human girls sat in a corner, providing blood on-site. Needles were inserted into their arms, connected at the other end to a tap-like device. They truly didn't treat humans as human at all.
"I'm going to get some food first."
Anna was the first to part from Loren, heading to the table with desserts.
The desserts here were very small in portion, emphasizing delicacy. Even the plates were inlaid with gold. The price of one such plate could probably allow an ordinary person to live a good life.
In the time it took Loren to sweep his gaze across the banquet hall, Anna had already cleared the table of desserts and moved on to the steak.
"Welcome, Master Mentor."
Ofemia emerged from the crowd, extending her hand to Loren. Others automatically made way for her.
"Just in time. Haven't had dinner yet, came to grab a bite."
Loren took Ofemia's hand. Ofemia's smile instantly froze.
She was the person of highest status here, and Loren hadn't shown her the slightest bit of face.
"Let's talk over there."
Ofemia adjusted her mindset and made a gesture of invitation. At the very center of the banquet hall sat a few individuals. They were the core figures here.
"The male-to-female ratio among vampires is so skewed. I haven't seen many male vampires this whole trip."
Upon hearing the term 'vampire', the group of vampires simultaneously turned their gazes toward Loren. So many crimson eyes looking at one place at once was quite unsettling, but Loren didn't feel anything.
Upon realizing it was Loren who said it, they all turned their heads away. A few who were dissatisfied left obediently after receiving a single glance from Ofemia.
Originally, some people had been pointing and whispering while Anna was feasting heartily. Now, knowing Loren's identity, their expressions changed instantly.
'Lacking in decorum' became 'unconventional and free-spirited'. 'Rude' became 'approachable and down-to-earth'. They even deliberately spoke these things near Loren, afraid he wouldn't hear them praising Anna.
Initially, they had all mistaken Loren and his group for vampires, since Loren only revealed one red eye, and Mirrorheart behind him also had red pupils.
And now, Loren formally began conversing with the others. At this moment, he was still holding a plate of steak, legs crossed, showing not the slightest hint of respect.
"Master Mentor, what do you know about the Bloodline Rebels?"
"They have simulated the component in sunlight that can suppress vampires. That part is called ultraviolet light."
"!"
Loren's opening statement was a major bombshell, though it wasn't much use to them. Even knowing it was ultraviolet light, they couldn't counter it.
"Also, they gathered so many people through hatred. You should be very clear; there are many people in this country who despise vampires."
This time, what Loren said wasn't very useful, but it did demonstrate his capability, telling them this transaction was very worthwhile.
"Tell me, what can you offer me?"
Loren handed his plate to a nearby maid and inquired.
Even though they were all seated at the same height, they had a feeling that Loren was looking down on them.
"I can petition my Duke to have you transformed into a Bloodline Marquis as well. Once you reach Marquis, the Bloodline's weaknesses become far less pronounced. It signifies a complete transformation of one's life essence." 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Ofemia stated her price. The nearby vampires were instantly shocked. This was something they had coveted their entire lives yet could never obtain.
And at this moment, Loren directly laughed out loud. That unrestrained laughter made the veins on Ofemia's forehead bulge.
"Let me tell you a secret. The Bountiful Church offered me the position of Angel, but I refused."
"..."
Ofemia fell silent. No one would think Loren was lying.
Perhaps they didn't fully understand Loren's status, but they clearly understood the status of an Angel. The Prince, whom they revered as divine, was merely equivalent to a low-tier Angel.
At this moment, it was as if they were asking a Prince if he wanted to become a Marquis, a rank two levels below him.
