Chapter 106 - future son-in-law(3)

"Recent events have taken a serious toll on my daughter."

Though she tries not to show it, as her father, I can sense the pain she carries inside. I see how hard each day is for her. Watching her like this... it's unbearable.

I've been thinking more and more about sending her somewhere peaceful—somewhere quiet, where she can rest and collect her thoughts.

Your home, I believe, would be perfect for that.

Please... take her in. I'd be truly grateful.

Leon gave a small nod, his expression calm and confident. His voice matched it—steady, reassuring:

"That won't be a problem."

"Good."

Vince extended his hand.

"Then let's leave it at that. It's been good to see you again, Bartfort."

"Likewise," Leon replied, shaking Vince's hand firmly. He then gave a polite bow and quietly left the room.

Once the door closed behind him, silence filled the space. Vince sat in thought for a moment, then turned his gaze toward his son—Gilbert, who stood nearby.

"Tell me, son..." he began, eyes still fixed on the door.

"Didn't it seem like Leon was... somewhat pleased by our conversation?"

Gilbert narrowed his eyes, replaying the scene in his mind.

"Yes, Father. I noticed that, too.

His body was slightly trembling—as if he was holding back some strong emotion.

It looked like... joy, or maybe excitement."

Vince frowned, tapping his fingers lightly against the armrest of his chair.

"Hmm... things are turning out to be far more interesting than they first appeared."

---

And Vince and Gilbert were right—Leon had indeed hoped that Duke Redgrave would be the one to suggest that he look after Angelica for a while.

What had made him nervous wasn't the idea of speaking to the duke himself, but the possibility of hearing something like:

"Stay away from my daughter."

Or worse:

"Thank you for everything. You're no longer needed—alone."

Thankfully, everything had gone more or less the way it had in the manga and the novel—calmly, even with a hint of trust.

Leaving the Redgrave estate behind, Leon walked across the well-maintained grounds, occasionally glancing around in search of familiar faces.

"Hmm... Where could they be?" he muttered, rubbing his chin thoughtfully as he scanned the paths and flowerbeds.

Suddenly, his face lit up, as if he'd just remembered something important.

"Luxion!" he called out.

Almost immediately, a small spherical machine appeared in front of him, hovering in the air like a floating metallic eye.

"Finally remembered me, Master?" Luxion replied with a slight tone of mock offense.

"I never forgot you," Leon grumbled.

"Now tell me—where are Livia and Anjie?"

Luxion gave a little jolt in midair, like a dramatic snort.

"Hmph! Asking about other women when I'm right here?

Honestly, Master—how rude," he said in a strange, slightly haughty voice.

Leon took a step back, startled, then frowned in confusion.

"Uhh... What was that supposed to be?"

"I was imitating a typical 'tsundere' girl.

How was my performance?" the AI answered without missing a beat.

"Zero out of a hundred!" Leon snapped, waving it off in annoyance.

"Just tell me where they are."

"They're—"

---

About five minutes later, Leon reached the garden.

Around him stretched neatly trimmed shrubs and vibrant flowerbeds, overflowing with color.

The scent of lilies, jasmine, and roses hung in the air, giving the whole place a dreamlike charm.

Among all that beauty, he finally spotted them—Olivia and Angelica, seated on a bench by a fountain.

Leon picked up his pace, almost jogging toward them.

"Livia! Anjie! I've finished talking to—"

He stopped mid-sentence.

Angelica suddenly rose from the bench. Her face was flushed red, and the corners of her eyes still glistened with the traces of tears.

The moment she saw Leon, she quickly covered her face with one hand and whispered:

"Sorry... I... I'll be right back. Just need a moment to pull myself together."

Without waiting for a response, she hurried off—almost running.

Leon stood there, stunned. He turned to Olivia, confusion written all over his face.

"Livia... what happened while I was gone?"

Olivia flinched slightly at the question. She glanced around as if checking for eavesdroppers, then gave a small sigh. She smiled softly, raised a finger to her lips, and whispered:

"That's a secret."
