Modern World Warlock-Chapter 284: A Noisy Awakening
The moment that Camille turned around to look at Cerberus, she noticed his right head had been taken off.
The three-headed dog was lying on the ground, crying in pain while bleeding profusely from his severed neck.
On each of Camille's arms, she was holding the injured twins, who couldn't move a muscle after the beating they received while kneeling in front of the bed carrying the unconscious Dante.
As the enemy warlock slowly approached the trio, the cries of Cerberus became louder, and the twins' aura grew larger as they began shouting at the man to "stay away from Cami."
The handler clenched her grip on the kids' and gave them a hug, realizing that her best option was to allow the man to capture her without killing the twins. However, Asher and Amara were able to sense Camille's intentions, making them more desperate and loud.
"No, Cami! You can't let that man take you!" Amara shouted.
"Stay back!" Asher followed up, his screams echoing inside the hallways.
Suddenly, the bandaged warlock stopped his approach as another voice interjected their ordeal.
"Ugh, so noisy…" A deep, slightly annoyed voice could be heard behind Camille.
When the handler widened her eyes with surprise and turned around, she saw Dante sitting up on the bed without a shirt, holding his head and scratching his sides.
The mere fact that Dante had woken up left the enemy warlock frozen in place, allowing Dante to scan his surroundings in a calm manner that contrasted with the desperate fight that was taking place a few seconds ago.
When he looked to one side, he saw Cerberus still crying in pain and seemingly passing out after losing his right head.
On his other side, the harpion twins were being held by Camille after getting injured to the point they could barely move a muscle.
"What a mess you've caused… Udras," Dante muttered, revealing the warlock's name.
"Udras…?" Camille asked.
"You took down my barrier as well. I worked hard on that, you know?" Dante continued, his gaze sharp and intimidating.
The bandaged warlock didn't say a word to respond, prompting Dante to raise an eyebrow as he scrutinized his opponent.
"I see. A silent contract…How pitiful," Dante continued, turning around to approach the twins.
Even if Udras wanted to attack Dante at that moment when he seemingly wasn't paying attention to him, the imposing aura that was being produced from his body didn't allow him to move.
"B-Big brother…" *Sob* Amara muttered, still in pain from having both of her legs broken.
"W-we tried…" Asher continued, also sobbing from the pain.
Dante had a wholly serious expression, and as he looked around the hallway, he noticed the torn-up bodies of the ghouls that the twins had killed before.
'These harpions… They were truly fighting to protect us, huh?' Dante thought.
With a slight smile on his face, Dante grabbed a hand from each of the twins and placed them closer to him.
When Camille looked down at their hands, she saw how a strange symbol started to appear in the back of their hands, and it looked as if it was being carved with a knife, making the handler a bit worried.
However, even though the process looked painful, the twins didn't feel anything while it was happening and kept watching Dante's actions with curiosity.
"Since I wasn't the one who summoned you here, I can't heal you until I do this…" Dante explained, his tone soft and caring.
When the pentagram had been carved on the twins' hands, Dante chanted "Demon Heal," producing strands of shadows that began to mend the kids' injuries.
The spell was from the "demonology" school of warlocks and was commonly used to heal demons that were summoned by the mages.
Camille was shocked to see Dante helping the harpions, as he had shown his distaste for them numerous times in the past. Still, he looked strangely compassionate at that moment.
As soon as the twins were healed, Dante patted their heads. "You two did a great job," he said, making the children smile brightly before falling asleep from exhaustion.
"You were right, Cami…" Dante said as he stood back up, turning around and slowly walking towards the wounded Cerberus.
"About…?" Camille inquired, still holding the twins in her arms.
"About those demons… Asher and Amara," the warlock replied, surprising the handler as it was the first time that Dante called them by name.
Udras still couldn't move from his spot, not even after Dante walked past him to reach Cerberus, who healed the three-headed dog with the same spell he used on the twins.
When Cerberus turned back into a puppy, Dante carried him and brought him to Camille so that she could look after him and the children.
"Now…" Dante muttered, turning around and locking his gaze on Udras.
"I didn't think I would see you again, Udras. Becoming a Death Knight for a necromancer? How far you've fallen…" Dante commented, his tone sarcastic.
"Oh, right. You have a silent contract, so it's not like we can have a meaningful conversation… Still, did you think one measly contract was enough to beat me?" Dante continued, prompting Udras to stand firmly.
"You know this guy?" Camille pondered.
"We were from the same orphanage…" Dante vaguely replied, dropping his neck from side to side to stretch after being bound to the bed for over a week.
"How are you feeling?" Camille asked.
Dante took a deep breath of fresh air and exhaled. "Heh, I feel great!" he said with a grin.
The warlock could feel the energy of the twins, Cerberus, Lilith, Krom, the succubi, Sami, and even felt a pinch of Megan and Zac's energy, making him understand that they had been transferring their umbra to help him heal faster.
"I gotta thank everyone later. For now, let's clean up the house," Dante commented, sharpening his gaze and staring at Udras, who was prepared to start the fight.
With a single step, Dante appeared right in front of the bandaged warlock. "I got some new moves, by the way," he muttered in Udras' ear before punching him in the gut and sending him flying toward the center of the inner garden.
