While the mafia infiltrated the necropolis, an unknown man and woman were sneaking through the dense forest beside the city.

They wore facemasks to cover their faces, and the man had a large camera on his back that he carefully unloaded and turned on as soon as they reached the partition that split the necropolis from the forest.

"Quick, Dirk… Let's get a shot of this," the woman whispered to the cameraman.

"Okay… and… action!" Dirk replied, pointing the camera at the woman as the corrupted buildings were visible in the background.

"We are here on the site of the disaster. As you can see, the buildings behind me have been covered with a strange, solid substance… We still don't know what it could be, but our team will keep investigating to bring you the truth! My name is Tanya Petrovna. Stay tuned for more!" The woman said, holding a microphone and showing her face to the camera, only to cover it up as soon as the take was done.

"Was that good?" Tanya asked her cameraman.

"Yeah, this looks great… Although, Tanya, what the hell is going on in this city? I thought the government said a laboratory had blown up, and the chemicals were polluting the area…" Dirk replied.

"Right!? This does not look like what they described at all!" Tanya said. However, instead of being indignant, the woman had a smile on her face. frёewebηovel.cѳm

"You are enjoying this, aren't you?" Asked the cameraman.

"Of course! Uncovering a government secret will be our magnum opus! Imagine all the offers we'll get from news stations…" Tanya proudly replied.

"Either that or they'll blacklist us again…" Dirk commented.

"Bah, pessimistic as always! Let's get in there and find out the cause of this phenomenon," the woman said, not feeling any discouragement from his partner's pessimism.

Tanya Petrovna used to be a respected news reporter who worked for the biggest stations all over the world.

However, while working for a giant news station in Russia, she covered the story of a supposed witch who lived in Siberia, and even though the story was a hit and people loved it, the station was forced to fire Tanya.

Dirk, who had been working as her cameraman since the beginning of her career, decided to follow her as he knew that the woman wasn't telling lies to sensationalize her reports.

After the woman heard about rumors of a mafia war happening at Novaria, she took a flight there and arrived a few days before the necropolis was created, making Tanya's reporter sense tingle.

When the NSS blocked all civilians from getting close to Limsa, Tanya's desire to find out the truth only grew, so she devised a plan with Dirk, and they managed to sneak through security.

The mafia teams that infiltrated the necropolis went through the main road, with only a few of them deviating from the course.

Knowing that most of the NSS security would be placed on the roads, Tanya and Dirk sneaked through a dense forest on a different side of the city, and their efforts paid off.

As the reporter and the cameraman passed through the threshold where the necropolis began, they felt a strong shiver down their spines that made them nervously gulp.

"Oh, yeah… I'm feeling a big story here," Tanya said, utterly misunderstanding her instincts.

Meanwhile, Dante was flying above the necropolis, and even though he spotted a few groups of ghouls walking around, he didn't stop to kill them as he believed it would be a waste of time.

Suddenly, Trinity spoke to him on his earpiece, startling him for a moment as he wasn't expecting to get called so quickly.

["Dante, one of the scanner drones is detecting a couple of humans not too far from your position…"] Trinity said.

"Hmm? But nobody should be this far in…" Dante pondered aloud.

["Right, that's why I called you. The undead look different on the scanner, so I can tell that those two are human,"] she explained.

["Also, the sign is getting weaker, so they might be dying…"] Trinity continued.

*Sigh* "Fine… Where are they?" Dante asked, slightly annoyed about the deviation from his plans.

As Trinity guided the warlock to the location, he spotted Tanya and Dirk kneeling on the ground, holding their throats with their eyes widened in pain.

'Huh? There really were two people here…' Dante thought.

However, since they weren't wearing any protective talismans, the thick air of the necropolis was slowly robbing them of their lives.

["Are you gonna save them…?"] Trinity asked, noticing that the warlock was just staring at the couple for a moment.

Dante glared at Tanya and Dirk from above, inspecting their umbra to see what their intentions inside the necropolis were, but as the woman looked up and saw Dante in the air, she weakly stretched her hand as if asking for help.

*Sigh…* Dante tiredly exhaled, rummaging through his pockets and taking two extra talismans out.

'These were for emergencies…' the warlock thought, quickly descending and placing the necklace on both Tanya and Dirk.

It took a few seconds for their suffering to quell, and when Tanya and Dirk were able to breathe freely, they confusedly thanked Dante for his help.

"W-what is this?" Tanya asked, holding the pendant of her talisman.

"Don't take it off. It's a talisman to protect you from the necrotic air…" Dante replied.

"Necrotic air?" Tanya pondered.

"Ugh, for pity's sake. What the hell are you two doing here? Leave this place. It's dangerous," Dante replied, realizing that Tanya and Dirk were completely clueless about their situation.

"I'm afraid I can't do that!" Tanya exclaimed.

"It's my job to bring the TRUTH to the people!" She continued, emphasizing the word "truth."

Dante stood silent for a brief moment without answering her comment, and the warlock noticed that the woman was being completely genuine with him from the umbra that oozed out of her body.

Even if he believed that Tanya and Dirk were stupid for infiltrating the necropolis, he still admired people who spoke their minds without hesitation, so he decided to tag along with the reporter for a bit to see what she would do.
