Chapter 150: Chapter 150: Awaken

"Urmm... uhh..." Jojo slowly opened his eyes as he felt a gentle caress on his head. When he saw Sisi smiling at him, he startled awake and immediately sat up on the bed.

"Sisi!"

"Hmm?" Sisi smiled. "Have you been staying here all this time?"

"Un! I was worried about you, Sisi..." Jojo muttered. "Please don’t sleep for too long. Umm, you scared Jojo so much..."

Sisi giggled. "Sorry. I was just exhausted, but I’m doing fine now."

"Un! Oh, Daddy is outside. I’ll call for him!" Jojo said as he was about to jump off the bed.

But Sisi held him back and shook her head. "Let’s rest for now before we talk to him, alright?"

Jojo didn’t understand why Sisi stopped him. He was excited for his father to spend more time with her, so Sisi could eventually become his Mommy after they got married.

But he obeyed Sisi as always and lay back down beside her while she patted his head.

"Jojo, have you ever seen a faerie?"

"A faerie? Umm..." Jojo tried to recall what his father had told him, then shook his head. "When Daddy and I were separated, Daddy always told me to find a faerie, because faeries are kind to good boys like me!"

"But I kept searching everywhere and never found them, Sisi..." Jojo pouted. "Maybe Jojo is not a good boy."

"But it’s okay!" He suddenly sat up, his tail wagging happily. "Because I met you! You are much better than faeries!"

Sisi’s lips curled up as she realized she might be the faerie Jojo had been searching for when he was separated from Kael. She might not have the glittery wings or the tiny body, but she was also a faerie, at least according to Grandma Tree.

"You are a good boy, Jojo. The small faeries are just shy around you," Sisi consoled. "Besides, you met me at the barn back then. Think of me as your faerie—a very big one."

"Un! You are my big faerie, Sisi!" Jojo hugged her even tighter than before. He nuzzled his cheek against her neck, making sure Sisi carried his scent. "Jojo will help if you need a sacrifice, Sisi! But please don’t sacrifice me. I still want to be with you!"

Sisi’s smile faltered. "What do you mean?"

"That maid told me you have been brewing something since you are a witch, and that you need a boy sacrifice," Jojo reported innocently. "She said you’ll sacrifice me because you can’t find someone else!"

Sisi quickly connected the dots, and her suspicion immediately turned toward Leah. Ruela wasn’t allowed to enter the main chamber without being summoned, and Jojo always called her the "big coconut sister" instead of just "a maid."

She knew Leah was ambitious, but to slander her in front of Jojo while she was unconscious made Sisi realize how dangerous that ambition truly was. Leah seemed to be itching to take her out as soon as possible and replace her as the Mistress of this courtyard.

Sisi became alert at once. Leah was clearly trying to gain Jojo’s favor, possibly to catch his attention, and then the Beast King’s.

Sisi didn’t mind if Kael married someone he loved in the future and Jojo finally gained a real, loving mother.

But she would not tolerate an ambitious woman whose mind was full of schemes and control.

Thus, with silent but seething anger toward Leah, Sisi smiled at Jojo and said, "I am not a witch. And even if I were, I would never sacrifice you, Jojo."

Jojo’s ears perked up. "Really? You’re not a witch?"

"No," Sisi replied firmly.

"Then what are you, Sisi?"

"I am..." Sisi paused briefly, considering her words, then continued, "...your guardian."

"My... guardian?"

"Mhm. I’ll always be there when you need me. I’ll take care of you, feed you, snuggle with you, and love you with all my heart."

Jojo stared at Sisi with eyes full of trust.

What she described sounded exactly like what a mother would do. That only strengthened his belief that Sisi was his mother.

"I know you are not a witch, Sisi. Because you are good, and Daddy said witches are evil!" Jojo declared.

"That’s right," Sisi giggled. "But don’t tell anyone about this for now, okay?"

"Why not?" Jojo asked. "How about Daddy? Can he know that you’re not a witch?"

Sisi was already convinced that she was a faerie. But aside from that, she knew nothing about her identity—her birth parents, her homeland, or how she ended up growing like a human in an orphanage.

She called herself Jojo’s guardian because that part was true.

Whether she was a witch, a faerie, or a human, she would still protect Jojo no matter what.

Sisi placed her index finger over her lips. "Shh. It’s our little secret for now, okay?"

Jojo quickly covered his mouth with both hands and nodded. "Jojo won’t talk!"

"Good boy," Sisi said, patting his head. "And about that maid... don’t listen to her, okay? She wants to make you hate me."

"Ah? But I will never hate you, Sisi," Jojo tilted his head. "But if you don’t like her... should I ask Daddy to kill her? Daddy always says to, um... eliminate threats before they become problems in the future!"

"Don’t worry. This one is on me," Sisi smiled. "I’ll take care of her myself."

Jojo had no reason to doubt Sisi, so he simply nodded.

Sisi had many ways to deal with Leah, but she wanted to stick to her original plan.

She needed to teach Kael a lesson about being careful with his inner court.

A maid, a concubine, or even a nanny could become the downfall of a kingdom if mishandled, no matter how powerful its ruler was.

Leah had already made her move by trying to manipulate Jojo while Sisi was unconscious, a sign that she was already planning on something more heinous later.

’Fortunately, Jojo is not as ignorant as he looks,’ Sisi thought. ’He’s a very smart boy for his age.’

As they snuggled together, the door suddenly opened.

Kael stepped inside, his expression dark as if he had just killed a man in his mind.
