Chapter 188: Chapter 188: Ruela’s Reward (III)

"Mistress, is it really alright to make her the Crown Prince’s spokesperson to the masses? She is not the brightest bulb in the shed, and her voice has been... damaged," Diane pointed out. "Wouldn’t it be more fitting to find someone strong, smart, and well-spoken instead?"

What Diane said made sense. Ruela’s new role was crucial, and she might not be the best at it.

But Sisi had another idea in mind.

"To be the Crown Prince’s spokesperson means they need to actually care about his wellbeing," Sisi replied. "I saw that Ruela has a genuine affection toward Jojo—not a twisted one like Leah, of course. But I see a trace of motherhood in her."

"She genuinely wants to take care of Jojo and protect him. Or else, why would she scream at the top of her lungs and get her throat sliced by Leah when she could have just turned around and pretended not to see anything?"

"She might have been immature and misguided before. But I know she’s a good person with just one look," Sisi stated, making sure that Diane wouldn’t question her decision anymore.

Diane thought about what the Mistress had just said, and she realized it held some weight.

To actually risk her life just to save the Crown Prince meant she held genuine affection, or at least undying loyalty, for the little prince. It showed that even a woman like Ruela, who had been despised by the entire palace, could turn over a new leaf.

Diane stared at the smiling Mistress and couldn’t help but lower her head politely. "Mistress, may I know where and when you learned how to judge a person’s character with such precision?"

"Hmmm..." Sisi looked up at the ceiling as she tried to recall all the incidents that might have shaped her ability to read someone’s heart.

But she couldn’t think of any.

From the moment she gained consciousness as a child, she knew whom to trust and whom she couldn’t. Even with her adoptive parents, she knew they were up to no good, but she still tried to make the most of her situation because that was the first time she had her own ’family.’

Nevertheless, she had always been a good judge of character, which made her wonder why she helped Marik escape, or why she softened toward Kael, who obviously had something wrong in his brain because of his curse.

’Maybe my sense has been dulling, that’s why I’ve made a few mistakes along the way,’ Sisi thought.

But in front of Diane, she simply said, "Since I was just a child. It helped me survive the harsh conditions I was born into back in the human civilization."

Vestor was ruffling his hair as he walked back and forth at the entrance of the summit. He wasn’t sure if he should relay all the messages that Garou had told him last night.

Grishaw saw his friend’s restlessness and advised, "Just tell the King everything, Vestor. It’s not a big deal, is it?"

"It is a big deal. Mistress Sisi has overstepped her boundaries as she is not the queen yet, so how could she bestow such a heavy title upon an ex-concubine and even send her her own soldiers?" Vestor pointed out. "I know she meant well, but still..."

"What are you two talking about?"

Kael’s sudden arrival startled both Vestor and Grishaw. They kneeled immediately, and Vestor had no choice but to tell the King about the message from Garou last night.

Kael listened attentively the moment Vestor mentioned ’Mistress Sisi’ and ’Crown Prince Jojo.’

At first, his expression was grim as always, but the more he listened, the more the tension on his face gradually eased. In the end, he chuckled amusedly. "And you are stressing over this because?"

"I-I’m just worried about the bureaucracy, My King. Mistress Sisi is not yet our queen, and she’s already overstepping so many boundaries," Vestor replied truthfully. "Besides, to make Ruela the Crown Prince’s representative and spokesperson to the public is—dare I say—unwise."

"She has good judgment of character," Kael replied calmly. "Besides, you should already know that Ruela saved the two most important people in my life. She deserves it."

"But, My King, what if she doesn’t do her job well?"

"Then remove her from that position, but let her keep the soldiers and her house," Kael gave a clear order that finally eased Vestor’s heart.

But there was one more message he hadn’t relayed yet.

"My King, the last matter is about Garou..." 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

Kael’s expression became tense immediately, and the thin smile he had vanished the moment the young panther was mentioned.

Vestor wondered if the Beast King truly detested Garou, since the young panther clearly showed promising potential to become one of the strongest generals to serve the Crown Prince in the future.

"What is it?" Kael asked.

"Mistress Sisi said that she will give Ruela at least a dozen soldiers to protect her and her house. But she also appointed Garou as the commander," Vestor reported. "He will be expected to stay with Ruela for a year and train someone else to be the new commander before he can return to Mistress Sisi’s side."

Kael’s eyes widened, and his crimson gaze glinted for a split second. "She actually sent Garou away from her courtyard?"

"Yes, My King."

"Then what are you waiting for?! Go to the throne room and announce this during the morning court!" Kael suddenly said in high spirits, as if hearing about Garou’s departure gave him a burst of happiness in the morning.

Kael took a big stride toward the throne room and yelled at Grishaw and Vestor, who were stunned by his excitement, "I’ll snap your necks if you’re too slow, Vestor! We have to hurry!"

Grishaw and Vestor looked at each other, and the latter couldn’t help but ask, "Is it just me or is he—"

"Yes, he gets excited when Mistress Sisi orders Garou to follow Ruela," Grishaw confirmed. He couldn’t help but chuckle. "I guess even Our King can be jealous, huh?"
