Monster Gacha System: Becoming The Final Boss-Chapter 148 | Monsters Descent
Amidst the storm clouds shrouding the heavens of the northernmost settlement, the Griffin shrieked as flashes of light gleamed through the darkness. Their brilliance enveloped the stormy skies, announcing the arrival of their master, Lord Oberon.
Gargantuan monsters descended with glee, crashing onto the concrete buildings of the expansive cityscape with reverberating explosions. Their roars bellowed from every corner as emergency alarms blared.
Searchlights pierced through the black-clouded skies, unveiling dozens of monsters plummeting towards the settlement.
The Vanguard Army of the Clan could barely react as the monsters made their catastrophic landings. Explosions blasted through the streets, shattering buildings in their wake.
"We are under attack!"
A dhampir soldier shouted as platoons marched through the dust-shrouded streets. Nobles withdraw to the southern castle gate of the city, gathering the remains of the army.
Looming over the cityscape, Behemoth roared and brandished its tail towards the soldiers on the ground. All of them were flattened in mere moments, unable to defend themselves from the gargantuan monster.
Orochi exuded a poisonous mist that enveloped nearby city blocks, its eight heads hissing and spitting venom at nearby soldiers.
The northernmost city of the Clan wasn't a fortress, but a supply depot. Since the beginning of the monster assault, the Vanguard Army stood no chance against the onslaught.
"Sir, what should we do?" A vampire inquired of a nearby Noble Commander, who furrowed their eyebrows and gritted their teeth.
"We don't stand against these monsters! True Bloods must be deployed. Otherwise, nothing would be able to stop these abominations!"
The Noble felt a nerve popping from his forehead as he called for reinforcements from the Main Army. If the Vanguard Army fell before reaching the southern frontier, whatever offensive they planned.
It wouldn't work.
After all, not only was the Vanguard Army the first force to confront the defenders of the southern frontier. They were also the reconnaissance group of the Main Army.
Without the Vanguard Army, the Main Army would risk facing ambushes from the Jaegers. It wouldn't stop them, but the casualties would start rising before the battle even began.
"Sir, reinforcements have been confirmed. Three True Bloods would be sent to assist the Vanguard Army." The communication officer reported, prompting the Noble to sigh in relief.
"How about other commanders? Are they still alive?" Of the several commanders in the Vanguard Army, only two of them reached the southern castle gate.
"We haven't heard anything from the others, Sir. According to protocols, if they don't reach the command central during a battle."
"They would be pronounced missing in action."
"You will have to lead us, Sir." A nearby officer expounded, which made the Noble furrow his eyebrows. After all, if it were him, he would have withdrawn the Vanguard Army.
However, since reinforcements had been sent by the Main Force, their withdrawal was no longer an option. Otherwise, the Noble would be branded as a coward.
"Secure the southern castle gate, and have other companies rendezvous in our location. Prepare for a tough defensive operation! We must protect the gate." 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Devastation riddled the cityscape as monsters besieged the remaining barracks of the Vanguard Army. Their time in the northernmost settlement was numbered.
The walls shook, and the ground rumbled. Cracks formed throughout the ceiling, which made the Noble realize how impossible his orders were.
If the Vanguard Army doesn't withdraw from the northernmost city, they would be annihilated before the reinforcements even reach the outskirts of the settlement.
With this in mind, the Noble weighed his options. Was being considered a coward and tried in the Clan worth it? After pondering for a couple of seconds, he reached a simple conclusion.
It was worth it.
"Suspend my previous orders. Prepare for the evacuation! We must retreat and rendezvous outside of the combat zone. Or else, there would be no army left for anyone to command."
Hearing his orders, the officers' gaze brightened. The moment the monsters made their landing onto the cityscape. The Vanguard Army stood no chance.
It was akin to having thousands of ants fight against an elephant. To have even a fighting chance, at least hundreds of thousands were required.
If they didn't have hundreds of thousands fighting against the onslaught of monsters, it was better to withdraw and maintain what they could keep. Better than risking total annihilation.
"Understood, Sir! Relaying orders of withdrawal!" An officer reported with a straightened back. The Noble nodded in satisfaction. He wasn't ordering the withdrawal only for the Vanguard Army.
He didn't want to die fighting against an elephant when he was nothing more than an ant. What would his future descendants think of him? Besides, it was better to live than die.
The Noble didn't care if he got imprisoned or tortured for the decision he had made. It was better than dying. After all, even vampires only have one life in the New World.
They might be ageless, but they weren't truly immortal.
After the orders of the withdrawal were relayed, the remaining soldiers of the Vanguard Army retreated through the southern castle gates. Some stood behind, buying time for the others to escape.
Behemoth, Orochi, and Fenrir marched towards the southern castle gate. Their intentions were somewhat clear. The destruction of the gates consolidates the defeat of the northernmost city.
The Noble watched from the southern walls as the gargantuan monsters loomed over the cityscape. Such abominations shouldn't exist. Yet they walked upon the world like the Aberrant once did.
It wouldn't be saddening if these monstrous creatures also targeted humanity. Unfortunately, whoever commanded them sided with the Federation.
These were weapons of mass destruction pointed towards the Clan.
"Sir, we must evacuate." An officer announced, standing beside the Noble whose expression remained rigid. News came from the ranks. His colleague, who was supposed to be with him, died.
Without a doubt, the culprits were the same ones that targeted the Vanguard Army beforehand. Were those preparations for the monster assault?
"We will camp ten miles south of the city and establish a temporary stronghold." The Noble ordered before turning his back away from the marching monsters.
The Clan was being trampled by the New World as though their promised supremacy was nothing more than the foolish dreams of leeches.
On the other hand, Damien and Hecate sat behind the feathered mane of the Griffin and watched the utter devastation ruining the northernmost city.
The crimson-haired vampire pouted since she couldn't even fight a single Noble. The sight made Damien chuckle, earning her glare. "We could have handled the army together without relying on your monsters."
"It would be better to save energy for more worthy opponents."
"After all, the arrival of my monsters would require reinforcements to arrive." He turned his sable-tinted gaze towards the blurred horizon.
"What reinforcements?" Hecate tilted her head, curious about who would reinforce the withdrawing Vanguard Army. Though she already knew that there was only one force that could stop them in their tracks.
"I see... The True Bloods, huh?" She remembered the director of the facility where she was raised. His formal title was Duke November, a high-ranking True Blood of the Clan.
"I have been wondering how strong these bastards are," Hecate smirked, cracking her knuckles. Whatever or whoever they were, she was ready.
Meanwhile, Damien merely smiled at her and turned his attention towards his status display. His Terror Points were steadily rising from the catastrophic disaster that had struck the city.
It was spiking fast, reaching thousands in mere moments.
He was becoming richer than ever before.
