Chapter 25: Chapter 25: You’d Better Not Fall in Love With Me

Quentin Grant let out a chuckle. "You’ve got some nerve, daring to curse me now."

"Are you that lonely, pathetic, and desperate? You don’t even have anyone to talk to. One hour, max. I’m going home," she said stiffly.

"How is one hour enough? Will you be satisfied?"

Nora Ainsworth felt like taking a hammer and beating this treacherous man to death. He was the one who had threatened and bribed her to come here, yet he was twisting it around to blame her. He was absolutely shameless!

She instinctively retorted, "Isn’t one hour enough for you to talk? Isn’t keeping you company for an hour enough? Just how pathetic are you? All alone all day, with no one to even pay you any mind."

The moment the words left her mouth, she regretted them. Quentin Grant’s expression turned dangerous, sending a shiver down her spine.

"No one pays me any mind?"

Nora Ainsworth gave a hollow laugh. "Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t talking about you."

"If not me, then who were you talking about? There are only two of us here."

Choked up, knowing anything she said would be wrong, Nora Ainsworth decided to just keep her mouth shut.

He stood up, and in one swift movement, lifted her and set her down on the piano strings.

Nora Ainsworth looked at the strings beneath her, not daring to move a muscle. "This piano is so expensive. Aren’t you afraid I’ll break it?"

"I have more than enough money."

She was finally convinced: it was impossible to communicate with this inhuman creature.

"Besides, I’m not going to marry Sharon Ainsworth."

Nora Ainsworth remained silent, listening to what he had to say.

"Since I won’t be marrying her, then, as for you and Leon Lynch—" He deliberately trailed off.

"What about me and Leon Lynch?"

"What happens to you and him will naturally depend on my mood."

"Quentin Grant, why are you doing this to me, and only me? I’ve already lost my freedom to you, which is humiliating enough. Why do you have to treat me like this on top of it all? Give me a timeframe. When will you finally let me go?"

Quentin Grant’s hand brushed against her lips, soft and delicate. "Do you want to leave me that badly? Do you have any idea how many women would kill to be with me? You have this opportunity, so why throw it away? Am I not better than Leon Lynch?"

Nora Ainsworth remained stubborn. "Quentin Grant, you are powerful, I’ll give you that. It might be easy for women to throw themselves at you, but if you have the guts, then give me your heart! Otherwise, stop acting on a whim and imprisoning me!"

He stared at her, then suddenly sneered, "You want my heart? Do you really think that’s possible?"

Nora Ainsworth felt like he was driving her insane. "If you don’t have the courage to give me your heart, what gives you the right to keep taking my freedom? You’re so powerful, you think you can control another person’s feelings at will, but at the very least, it has to be mutual for the game to be fun, doesn’t it?"

"Nora Ainsworth, until I get tired of you, you will stay by my side, hidden away from the world. Otherwise, I will truly make you wish you were dead, and I will make life a living hell for everyone connected to you. Also, I don’t want to hear what you said today ever again!"

"Then you’d better guard your heart very, very carefully, and don’t you dare fall in love with me."

The coldness in his eyes vanished, replaced by a blossoming smile. "That’s what I’ve been wanting to say to you. Nora Ainsworth, you’d better not fall in love with me."

Nora Ainsworth scoffed, "You think I would fall in love with a man who threatens me and forces kisses on me at the drop of a hat? You can stop daydreaming."

"Let’s hope so." 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

In the end, Nora Ainsworth really did leave after one hour.

She took a taxi back to the Ainsworth Residence.

Passing by the living room, she saw no one was there and went straight upstairs.

Just as she pushed open her door and stepped inside, she saw a tall figure standing by the window, motionless as a statue.
