Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback-Chapter 284: It’s Something That’ll Keep You Alive
Chapter 284: Chapter 284: It’s Something That’ll Keep You Alive
Camille sent someone to chase after him, but he got away. That’s why she rushed home to keep an eye on the news.
What confused her was who had taken the photos. Why did the Wilson Group Of Companies suddenly announce that Mr. Wilson was now single? And why did they say the two families were about to be joined by marriage?
Could it be that Daniel had finally come to his senses? Did he now realize he had always loved Camille and wanted to marry her for real?
Camille had no idea what was going on. She was about to ask Rowan for help when she overheard him talking on the phone with their grandfather, Steve.
"How can you handle such a long flight with your health getting worse? Are you serious?"
Camille thought to herself, Where is Grandpa flying to?
"You don’t need to worry. Camille is doing fine here. That video earlier was just a misunderstanding. I’ll keep an eye on her. There’s no need for you to come all the way here."
Video? What video? Is Grandpa flying to Easthan just because of some video?
Camille couldn’t wrap her head around what was going on.
"Grandpa, you can’t just take Camille’s word for everything. Daniel’s wife isn’t anything like you think. She didn’t bully Camille," Rowan said, clearly annoyed.
Lately, Camille had been calling their grandfather every day. The calls would go on for one or two hours. She always managed to cheer him up, and he seemed to forget all about that video.
Rowan had no idea what kind of outrageous stories Camille had told Steve. Whatever they were, they made Grandpa believe that Chantelle was some heartless woman who kept bullying Camille.
Now, Steve was determined to come to Easthan to teach Chantelle a lesson for Camille’s sake. Of course, Rowan didn’t want that to happen.
But he also knew that once Grandpa decided on something, there was almost no way to stop him.
In the end, Rowan did everything he could to fix the situation, but he and their grandfather still didn’t compromise with each other.
Camille had listened to the entire call from beginning to end. Her hands were clenched tightly, and she was burning with anger.
She had always thought of Rowan as a simple, rich guy who would give her whatever she wanted. He had always treated her kindly.
But now she realized he had just been pretending. He was probably afraid that Grandpa would favor her too much and end up leaving everything to her. That’s why he didn’t want Grandpa to come to Easthan. He even talked badly about her behind her back.
No way. She wouldn’t let him become the Nelsen family’s heir. She couldn’t stand the thought of Grandpa loving him more. If that happened, and Grandpa passed away, she had no idea what Rowan would do to her.
She started to worry that Rowan might abandon her now that he was getting along with Chantelle more than with her.
For all she knew, Chantelle could easily turn him against her and she might eventually be kicked out of the Nelsen family.
Camille was suddenly gripped by fear.
She rushed back to her room and called Steve right away. During the call, she started saying bad things about Rowan, trying to turn their grandfather against him.
What she didn’t realize was that Old Mr. Nelsen had spent the last twenty years grooming Rowan to be the heir of the family. That wasn’t something he’d throw away over a few complaints.
Even though he often showed her kindness, his loyalty had always been with Rowan, the grandson he trusted most.
While Camille kept badmouthing Rowan, she was secretly hoping Daniel would confess his feelings to her.
Meanwhile, Chantelle woke up in a place she didn’t recognize.
She sat up immediately and reached for the blade that was usually at her waist. She became alert.
When she heard footsteps getting closer, she didn’t hesitate. She struck with the blade, aiming straight for a vital spot.
"Pretty lady, it’s me," Lone Wolf said as he quickly caught her wrist and pulled her into his arms.
Chantelle twisted her wrist, and sharp steel needles popped out from the bracelet she was wearing.
Lone Wolf had grabbed her right where the bracelet was. If he had reacted a second too late, his hand would’ve been full of holes.
"I saved your life, remember? Is this how you show thanks?" Lone Wolf stepped back and set a tray of food on the table in front of her.
Only then did Chantelle remember being trapped in that private room with poisonous smoke filling the air. Lone Wolf had really saved her.
"How long was I out?" she asked. She knew Lone Wolf well. He never forgot a grudge, and he never let anyone forget a debt. She didn’t need to thank him now, but she knew she’d have to repay him eventually.
"A few hours," he replied, settling onto the sofa and using his hand to block the sunlight coming through the window.
He looked like a carefree teenager at that moment.
"What did you inject into me this time?" Chantelle asked, noticing a small mark on her arm. Her chest tightened worriedly.
"It’s something that’ll keep you alive," Lone Wolf said with a wink. Then he leaped out the window and vanished.
Chantelle rushed to the window and saw Lone Wolf surrounded by bodyguards. They were in the middle of a fierce fight.
A black Rolls Royce pulled up in front of the building. Daniel stepped out of the car, looking furious as he stormed toward Lone Wolf.
Chantelle ran downstairs to see what was going on. She still didn’t know what Lone Wolf had injected into her, but she could feel her strength slowly coming back. He couldn’t die yet as her children were still young.
Lone Wolf saw her running toward him. He smirked. "Pretty lady, do you miss me that much?"
He threw a long golden thread in her direction. It moved like it was alive and wrapped around her waist.
Before it could pull her toward Lone Wolf, Daniel suddenly appeared between them and caught the thread. It was so thin and sharp that it cut the skin of his palm.
Chantelle gasped sharply and swung her blade to cut the thread.
The thread was cut, and Daniel quickly moved to stand in front of her, blocking her view of the fight.
"Pretty lady, it hurts to see you repay my kindness like this. I won’t forget it. You owe me now," Lone Wolf said in a weak voice. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
