Chapter 344: Chapter 344: Mommy, It’s My Fault

Stephanie shook her head and rolled up the car window. With a firm voice, she said, "I want to see my godfather again in Carcosa."

"Mommy, will he be mad at us?" Kane suddenly asked, worried.

Xander had ended up in a coma because he saved them. But after that, they left him behind and came to Easthan.

Now, they were even reunited with their real dad. It felt like Xander might not be part of their lives anymore.

"He’ll understand why we did what we had to do," Chantelle said, thinking back to that day. The memory still lingered heavily on her heart.

If it hadn’t been for Xander, she and the kids wouldn’t have survived.

She didn’t leave him behind in Carcosa on purpose. She had already planned to go to Easthan even before that incident happened.

But after what happened, everything got delayed for over a year. And Xander’s mother... she despised her. She held Chantelle responsible for all the suffering Xander had endured and wanted her out of his life for good.

His mother had hurt Kane and Stephanie just to force her to leave. Then, without telling her, she took Xander away in secret. He nearly lost his life on that trip.

So after making sure Xander’s condition was stable, she made a choice. She drew all their enemies’ attention to herself before leaving Carcosa with her two children.

She hoped that by leaving, Xander would have the peace he needed to recover.

And it seemed her choice had paid off. Not long after she arrived in Easthan, she received the good news that Xander had woken up.

Half an hour later, Chantelle finally found Railer hiding in the trunk. At first, she was stunned. Then, a sharp look flashed in her eyes.

Kane quickly turned to Stephanie for help, but even she didn’t know what to do.

"Mommy, it’s my fault," Railer said before anyone else could speak. His face looked serious and he was ready to take whatever punishment she gave.

"Calvin, take Railer back," Chantelle said tiredly.

Railer had cried in front of her the other day, but it was all just an act. Still, hearing how cold her voice sounded now, he couldn’t hold back his real tears anymore.

Stephanie couldn’t stand seeing him cry. She quickly meddled and said, "Mommy, we’re already at the airport. Let’s just go to Carcosa together. We can even show him our old home."

"Yeah, Mommy," Kane added quickly. "Rai promised he won’t tell Daddy about this trip. Please?"

This was why they eventually started treating Railer like an older brother though Kane still called him "Rai" out of habit.

Chantelle’s mind flashed back to the moment Kate pushed him off that cliff. She could still see how weak and helpless he looked in her arms.

"Rai." Chantelle refused to let herself drown in regret. She quickly walked after him and stopped him.

"What’s the matter?" Railer asked calmly as his usual composure returned.

Chantelle didn’t like seeing him act so grown-up. He should be enjoying his childhood, not carrying the pressure of the world on his shoulders.

"I’m not leaving you behind. I need you to understand that," she said gently. "There’s something urgent I have to take care of overseas. Once it’s settled, I’ll come back."

Railer stayed silent.

"I didn’t bring you because I was worried about your safety," she continued. "But if you really want to come, I’ll let you."

She reached out to stroke his hair, but Railer moved away from her touch.

At that moment, it felt like the bond between them was about to break.

Chantelle finally realized how serious things had become. She gently picked Railer up and carried him in her arms as she turned and walked back to the others.

Calvin let out a quiet sigh of relief. The tranquilizer injected into Daniel wasn’t strong, and if they stayed any longer, they’d miss their flight. By then, Daniel’s men might already be at the airport to stop them.

Three hours later, Chantelle and her three kids arrived at New Yale Airport.

"Hey, Corrine!" a blonde woman called out, waving at them.

Chantelle raised her hand and waved back.

When the woman reached them, she happily scooped Kane into her arms and gave him a kiss. "My dear Kane, did you miss me?"

"I missed you so, so much," Kane replied sweetly, knowing just what to say.

"We’ll head home first, then go to the hospital to visit Xander," Chantelle told her.

The woman nodded. "His mother fell and hurt her legs, so she hasn’t been looking after him lately."

She was familiar with everything going on. She also knew Chantelle didn’t get along with Xander’s mother, who would always scold her the moment they met. This was her way of giving Chantelle a little warning.

Rihan brought Chantelle and the three kids back to the villa they had stayed in during their last visit to Carcosa.

For Calvin, coming back to Carcosa felt like returning home. After they got off the plane, Chantelle let him handle his own business.

Six years ago, the person who saved Chantelle had sent Calvin to help her. He was there to manage things and support her. Even though Chantelle paid him well, she knew he was still under contract with that person.

"I always arrange for cleaners to keep this place in good shape. Your things are still here. You can stay here for now," Rihan said as she opened the villa door and helped them bring their luggage inside.

Kane grabbed Railer’s hand. "Rai, let me show you our secret base!" he said excitedly.

Stephanie followed behind them. Without her fingerprint, they wouldn’t be able to get inside.

"Who’s that kid?" Rihan asked once Railer was out of sight.

Chantelle smiled. "He’s my son too. They’re triplets."

Rihan gasped and covered her mouth. "Oh my god. Triplets? Chantie, you’re so lucky."

They joked around for a bit, then Chantelle started unpacking. Rihan knew she didn’t like too much company, so she left her alone.

Up on the third floor, Kane and Railer stood in front of a room. Kane scratched his head and said, "I forgot... only Steph’s fingerprint can open this door."

At first, both of them could enter the room using their fingerprints. But after Kane lost a race to Stephanie, he gave up his access.

"It’s no use running so far ahead, don’t you think?" Stephanie said as she walked toward them.

Kane turned to her excitedly. "Steph, open the door! Rai’s going to be so surprised when he sees our secret base!"
