Mr. Sterling, Mrs. Sterling is Multifaceted!-Chapter 223: Wish You Never Reach It
Among the newcomers, there were only her and Selena Quinn. Selena Quinn was the young lady of The Sterling Family, so people in The Law Council dared not do anything to her.
That left only Seraphina Redgrave.
Unexpectedly, Ethan Sterling insisted on getting an answer, so Seraphina could only say, "It’s just three male colleagues, maybe they’re trying to give me a hard time."
She didn’t mention the part about Selena Quinn, otherwise, the two of them would be completely out of luck.
Seraphina felt a bit emotional, realizing she was now protecting Selena Quinn’s character; it wasn’t easy at all.
"Names."
Ethan Sterling said as he reached for his phone.
Seraphina had no intention of being a Saintness, so she honestly gave the names of those ill-intentioned people to Ethan Sterling.
Then he dialed Nathan Ayers, who picked up almost immediately.
Ethan Sterling repeated those three names and then said, "I hope that in the future, there’s not even the slightest chance I’ll hear their names or see any hint of their background."
"Understood," Nathan Ayers replied respectfully.
Ethan Sterling hung up the phone.
Seraphina looked at this man’s perfect profile; she had already reported these three men to her superiors, who would seek justice for her.
But Ethan Sterling went further, making them disappear from this world entirely.
"If any more scum interfere with you, remember to tell me." After saying that, Ethan Sterling turned his head away unnaturally, "Limited to my non-working hours."
"Oh,"
Seraphina said no more, finding a more comfortable position to lie down, "Alright, let’s sleep."
She was so tired, her eyelids were already fighting each other.
"Hold."
Ethan Sterling wrapped Seraphina in his arms, regardless of whether she wanted it, and draped a long leg over her.
"Ethan Sterling, this is very tiring for me."
She felt like a human doll, being hugged so tightly like a small child would.
"Just like this."
Ethan Sterling didn’t want to let go; only this woman could give him a sense of security in the endless night.
"..."
Forget it, it was better to sleep instead of arguing.
Gradually, she didn’t know if it was Ethan Sterling’s steady and rhythmic breathing that was contagious, her own breathing slowly steadied, and drowsiness set in.
After a long while, when Seraphina was almost falling asleep, Ethan Sterling’s cool voice suddenly rang out, "You’re still far from being in the top position to change the law."
Seraphina was momentarily stunned, not understanding why Ethan Sterling suddenly brought this up, but she still responded, "Yes, it’s indeed far away."
But she would eventually reach the finish line one day.
And it wouldn’t take too long.
"Oh, then I wish you a long way to go without reaching the end."
Ethan Sterling, resting his head against hers, suddenly said this.
"..."
As expected, nothing good comes out of this man’s mouth.
Seraphina felt a bit irritated, wanting to push away this man clinging to her, "This is very uncomfortable for me, I want to sleep on my own."
"No."
Ethan Sterling forcefully held her in.
Seraphina frowned, gave all her strength to push him, and surprisingly managed to break free.
Ethan Sterling narrowed his eyes slightly, grabbed Seraphina again, "Since you still have so much energy, why don’t we do something more interesting?"
"?"
No, Seraphina tried to pry Ethan Sterling’s hands off, but in the end, she couldn’t stop this man from succeeding.
...
Colleagues remembered the favor Seraphina did by getting them out of ’The Viper’s Nest,’ so they no longer targeted her, making her internship exceptionally smooth.
She had solid foundational knowledge, and any document she handled was clear and logically tight; her superiors were very pleased with her performance.
"This is the latest passing of the act regarding Veridian Isle. Please organize and verify it, and if there are no issues, it can be published."
Seraphina accepted the document handed over by her leader, a bit surprised.
"Veridian Isle?"
What more laws needed to be perfected there? That place was already Hell; could any more regulations really bind the people there?
"This law is prepared for the escapees from Veridian Isle, and there has been much discussion about it up there."
The leader didn’t say anything more but looked at Seraphina with admiration, "By the way, Sylvia, because of your dedication and outstanding performance, I’ve submitted a conversion application for you to the higher-ups. If all goes well, you will become the fastest intern to become regular in The Law Council’s history."
The President had a good eye for people; it would indeed waste her talent if she were only doing menial tasks.
"Thank you, Leader."
Seraphina bowed her head in gratitude and then left.
Walking down the road, Seraphina couldn’t suppress her curiosity and opened the document to review the clauses written therein.
"The Law Council’s punishment for criminals escaping from Veridian Isle, effective immediately upon publication."
"The highest punishment—execution without delay."
"!" Seeing the mandate for immediate execution, Seraphina’s pupils contracted sharply.
It was the highest punishment in Z Country, yet it targeted a group of powerless poor people.
Suddenly.
Seraphina felt the surrounding air grow so cold it was almost freezing.
She leaned against the wall, taking big breaths.
The edicts issued from the opulent Law Council were so heartless.
Seraphina felt as if a pair of hands were squeezing her heart, twisting repeatedly, making her feel unbearable pain.
A vast Z Country, yet it could not accommodate a single person from Veridian Isle.
If one day her identity was discovered, would she become a dead person the very next second?
This statute was verified and published by her, which indeed was a sarcastic joke.
...
"Did you see it clearly? Was that really Ethan Sterling?"
"I thought I also saw it wrong! So I looked carefully a few more times, and I can be sure, that was him!"
"What is he doing here?"
"Probably looking for Selena Quinn; they’re supposed to be siblings, right?"
Ethan Sterling?
Why was he here?
Seraphina came back to her senses, pulled out her phone, and checked the time; it was almost time to get off work.
Was he here to pick her up?
She was no longer worried that Ethan Sterling would expose their relationship to the public; if he wanted, there wouldn’t be anyone left in the world not knowing about it.
Seraphina collected herself and, holding onto the document, headed towards the office.
A few tall and sturdy bodyguards stood in front of the office door, their expressions serious, each with a gun on their waist, which was rarely seen in Z Country.
A crowd had gathered in front of these bodyguards, with some pretty women touching up their makeup and some bold ones sneaking peeks inside.
"Turns out he is here for Selena Quinn."
"Looks like they have a pretty good relationship, contradicting the rumor."
"Right, look how happy Selena Quinn is smiling."
Good relationship?
Ethan Sterling and Selena Quinn?
Did the sun rise from the west?
Seraphina tried to pass through the bodyguards but was stopped by them, as if they didn’t recognize her, "Young Master Sterling is inside; no one is allowed to enter."
Seraphina halted, not understanding what was going on.
Inside the office were only Selena Quinn and Ethan Sterling.
Seraphina could only see Ethan Sterling’s profile; the dark gray shirt wrapped around his strong build, and his cold profile added a touch of mystery to the man.
At the moment, Ethan Sterling was lazily sitting in her seat, idly playing with the items on her desk.
