Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 627: Talking Things Over at Home
Audrey paused while drinking her porridge, immediately picturing Miles Sterling’s violence towards Vanessa Sterling, and hurriedly asked Laura Yates, "What happened?"
Laura Yates changed her shoes, and Audrey pulled her over to sit down at the dining table. Laura Yates said, "I’m not really sure about the situation right now. Your second brother called me earlier, saying that a young girl turned herself in at the police station last night, claiming she committed murder. She seemed somewhat scared, very timid. I had mentioned Vanessa to your second brother before, so he called me when he heard the girl’s name this morning."
"Murder?" Phoebe King leaned in, "Who committed murder?"
Audrey gestured for silence and whispered to Phoebe King, "It’s Vanessa, the one I mentioned before, but we still don’t know what’s going on."
Laura Yates said, "Your second brother will tell me once there’s confirmed news. Vanessa is normally such a gentle girl, how could she possibly commit murder?"
Audrey nodded, "I don’t believe it either. But didn’t I tell you before that her brother has violent tendencies? I now suspect that Vanessa accidentally hurt her brother while defending herself."
Phoebe King said, "That would be self-defense. Get a good lawyer, and it shouldn’t be a big problem."
Audrey said, "We still don’t know what’s happening with Miles Sterling. Is he really dead?"
Just as Audrey finished asking, Laura Yates’ phone rang; it was a call from Franklin Sutton.
Laura Yates glanced at Audrey and Phoebe King, then answered the call on speaker, "Laura?"
Laura Yates asked, "Is there any news about Vanessa?"
Franklin Sutton said, "The confession was recorded by my colleague last night; the young girl admitted to killing her brother. However, her brother is currently in the hospital and has been resuscitated, not in a life-threatening condition. We also just talked to her brother, and he said it’s a family matter that they’ll discuss at home."
Upon hearing this, Audrey quickly said, "No way, if Vanessa goes back, she’ll definitely get beaten up!"
Franklin Sutton paused and asked, "How are you two together? Laura, did you go out again?"
Laura Yates hesitated for a moment and explained, "I was bored at home... came over to hang out with Audrey and them."
Franklin Sutton, realizing he didn’t have much time to spend with Laura Yates, said nothing more and simply instructed, "Don’t drive yourself; call a driver to pick you up and drop you off. It’s so unsafe to drive in this snow."
Laura Yates replied, "Got it."
Audrey suggested, "Second brother, have Vanessa stay at your police station for now, or you could bring her here to us."
Franklin Sutton replied, "I’m not sure; the police station might have already let her go, right? There’s no fatal incident, and they said it’s a family matter that they need to discuss at home. It’s not convenient for us to intervene. How about I call the station and see if the young girl has left yet."
After hanging up, Audrey said, "Call Vanessa and see how she is."
Laura Yates dialed Vanessa Sterling’s number, but the phone only rang with mechanical "beep beep" sounds, with no one answering.
Audrey was anxious to go to Vanessa Sterling’s house to find her, but the heavy snow outside made her situation unsafe. Adding any further trouble would inconvenience Shane, who was still abroad.
Phoebe King said, "Audrey, don’t worry for now. Her brother is still in the hospital, so nothing should happen at the moment."
Laura Yates said, "Even if we bring Vanessa here, how long could we protect her? After all, Miles Sterling is her brother; he’ll sooner or later come to take Vanessa away. Hiding isn’t a solution; they’ll have to deal with this sooner or later. I think we should directly call Miles Sterling and talk to him; maybe he’ll listen, and he won’t bother Vanessa if he goes home."
Audrey said, "He has a mental illness; a few words won’t persuade him. Vanessa mentioned that he’s fine when he’s in a good mood, but once he’s enraged, he ignores everything."
Phoebe King sighed, "People with illnesses should see a doctor. What good does taking it out on family do?"
Laura Yates said, "Vanessa is really pitiful. Apart from Miles Sterling, she has no other family. No one at home protects her, and no one can stand up to Miles Sterling."
"Huh?!" Phoebe King suddenly had an idea and mischievously smiled at Audrey, saying, "Audrey, didn’t you mention some Alliance organization before? For dealing with trashy men. How about asking them to sort out Miles Sterling?"
Audrey was taken aback, suddenly thinking that Phoebe King’s idea might not be too bad.
Phoebe King said, "He’s quite a playboy, isn’t he? He might take the bait."
Audrey thought for a while, then nodded, "I’ll call them later to see."
Hazel Yates brought over a plate of freshly baked pastries and placed it on the coffee table in the living room, saying, "Didn’t you all leave the TV show unfinished last night? You can watch TV here later, and ask the kitchen auntie to make you whatever you want to eat."
Phoebe King, with her sweet tongue, immediately said to Hazel Yates, "Thank you, Mom!"
Audrey, who could have shown appreciation, ended up having no chance to do so.
Just then, Norman Sutton appeared upstairs with messy hair and half-closed eyes, scratching his head as he looked at them from the railing.
Hazel Yates said, "You’re up at just the right time, come down and turn on the TV for your sister." 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
As Norman Sutton came down the stairs, he grumbled, "A three-year-old? Even kids know how to turn on the TV themselves these days."
Phoebe King said, "You should feel honored to be asked to turn on the TV for us."
Norman Sutton turned on the TV and moved over to find breakfast.
Hazel Yates gave him a stern look and said, "There’s porridge in the pot, serve yourself."
Norman Sutton muttered, "Porridge again, I’m tired of it."
Hazel Yates said, "If you don’t eat it, leave it for your elder brother when he comes back; there isn’t much left anyway."
Norman Sutton asked, "Then what do I eat?"
Hazel Yates said, "Make something yourself."
Norman Sutton asked, "Where did my elder brother go? Have him bring me back a bowl of rice noodles."
Just as he finished speaking, the sound of a car driving up outside was heard. Hazel Yates walked towards the door, saying, "Your elder brother is already back. Buy it yourself if you want to eat."
Norman Sutton turned to head upstairs, "I’ll just grab my phone and order delivery then."
Audrey quickly called out to Norman Sutton, "Order milk tea for your sisters-in-law, make sure it’s hot!"
Norman Sutton replied, "Order it yourself!"
Audrey said, "This is your chance to shine. If you don’t keep your sisters-in-law happy, your brother won’t buy noodles for you anymore."
Norman Sutton grumbled under his breath, but upon hearing Hazel Yates talking with a familiar female voice outside, his steps paused, and he perked up his ears to listen intently.
When he distinctly heard the name "Lana," he hurriedly rushed downstairs, shot to the door, and looked displeased at Lana Holloway, who Hazel Yates was leading inside. He unfriendly asked, "What are you doing at my house?!"
