Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 650: Admired from Afar, Never Profaned
It’s the first time coming to Simon Sue’s residence, and it’s not quite like what I imagined.
I thought it would be one of those luxurious mansions with a sports field, a pool, and a large garden.
Turns out it’s a very classical and elegant courtyard house, somewhat reminiscent of The Yates Family’s estate, with an antique charm that doesn’t quite match Simon Sue’s style.
Thick snow has piled up in the courtyard, but a path wide enough for vehicles to pass has been cleared.
Audrey Sutton and Phoebe King arrived the earliest, with only Simon Sue and busy attendants at home; the other friends haven’t arrived yet.
Simon Sue, wearing a thin sweater, pushed open the glass door of the main house and shouted at the just-arrived Audrey Sutton: "You kept hesitating, saying you didn’t want to come, but now you’re the most enthusiastic one, showing up in the morning."
Audrey Sutton laughed and said bluntly: "We’re here for lunch."
Simon Sue replied: "Upon hearing you’d come for lunch, I asked Auntie to cook two more pots of rice earlier."
Audrey Sutton hooked arms with Phoebe King and walked into the house, followed closely by Faye Xavier after parking the car.
Bringing two more people along made Audrey Sutton feel a bit embarrassed, but she knew Simon Sue wouldn’t mind this; everyone was outgoing and didn’t put on airs.
Phoebe King seemed genuinely hungry, grabbing snacks from the table as soon as she entered the house.
As the host, Simon Sue asked them: "Do you want tea or juice?"
Audrey Sutton replied: "Plain water will do, I suppose Brother Xavier wants some alcohol but he’s driving, so make him some tea instead."
Phoebe King asked: "Anything fun here? Is there a mahjong machine?"
Simon Sue smiled and said: "There’s one on the second floor. Come on, I’ll show you around."
Though the outside of the house carried a heavy classical vibe, the interior decorations were modernized, and the courtyard was large with many rooms—a gym, dance hall, theater, karaoke room, and game entertainment room...
Audrey Sutton wandered upstairs and downstairs till she got a bit lost, standing in the corridor of the second floor, looking at the white snow scenery below, and the small bamboo grove turned yellow by the snow in the corner, she said: "I didn’t expect you to have such taste. A little stone table beneath the bamboo grove—are you really such a leisurely person?"
Simon Sue smiled and explained: "My grandfather chose this place because he liked such an environment; used to invite friends over to play chess under the bamboo in the summer. There’s a fish pond at the back, would go fishing when free, but now he’s gone, and the stone table has grown moss."
Hearing Simon Sue casually mention these things made Audrey Sutton suddenly feel a bit sad.
"This is the card room, if you want to play cards, I can call a few people over now."
Audrey Sutton said: "No need, Flora and the others are on the way and will be here soon."
Simon Sue replied: "Alright then, there’s a game hall here, feel free to entertain yourselves; I have to go down to help prepare lunch today. You two with big bellies can watch for a bit, avoid anything too intense, I don’t want your husbands coming to trouble me."
Phoebe King and Faye Xavier were familiar with the gaming equipment, quickly getting started, while Audrey Sutton, despite being less experienced, quickly picked up how to play under observation.
Soon, Seraphina Vaughn drove over with Bear and Flora, and they gathered in the card room together.
Bear was not a gambler, knowing nothing about cards, so the usual card-playing friends gathered to play.
Faye Xavier was fond of a life of wine, women, and song, so today, following Audrey Sutton and company seemed rather dull; with Luc not here, he wound up watching horror movies alone in the theater.
Bear wandered around, taking some photos.
Following sounds downstairs, Bear found himself in the kitchen, where he saw his idol in an apron and looking like a domestic prince, making his heart race all the more.
"Do you need help?"
Simon Sue stirred the pot of soup with a spoon, glanced at Barry Barrett, and asked: "Why aren’t you playing with the others?"
Barry Barrett replied: "I can’t play mahjong, and besides, I’m a bit hungry, so I found my way to the kitchen."
Simon Sue offered: "Shall I ladle you some soup first?"
Barry Barrett didn’t hold back, smiled lightly and nodded, eyes watching Simon Sue: "I watched you cook on a variety show once; thought it was just an act, some quick skills learned to show off. Didn’t expect you actually knew how to cook."
Simon Sue said with a hint of pride: "My ancestors were chefs in the palace, learned quite a bit from my grandfather since childhood."
Barry Barrett took the bowl of soup from Simon Sue, who kindly added: "There’s a spoon over there, it’s a bit hot, drink slowly."
"Hmm, I read in an interview about your good rapport with your grandfather."
Simon Sue commented: "He was a headstrong old man but truly taught me many things."
Barry Barrett lowered his head, blowing gently on the bowl of soup, tasting it, and showing a surprised expression, praised: "Hmm! It’s fresh and not greasy at all! My mom’s chicken soup is always so oily I don’t even want to drink it."
Simon Sue joked: "There are two pregnant women here, made it especially for them, so they aren’t saying I neglected them later."
Barry Barrett remarked: "I thought we’d be ordering takeout, but you prepared so many dishes instead."
Simon Sue feigned a complaining manner: "Initially, I only prepared barbecue for dinner, but Audrey called to say she’d be over for lunch too, so I went to the supermarket. Just knew she’d be trouble for me."
Barry Barrett asked: "Speaking of, how did you meet Sutton? I didn’t expect Sutton would have such close ties with a big celebrity like you."
Simon Sue cooked while sharing amusing stories from his childhood with Audrey Sutton.
Barry Barrett never dreamed he’d one day have such a conversation with the idol he admired.
The gap between a star’s stage presence and reality isn’t strange, often their persona differs from real life.
But Simon Sue seemed an exception, his sunny, lively, and humorous demeanor before screens, able to create an engaging atmosphere, considerate of others’ feelings—his off-camera reality was even more remarkable, exhibiting qualities not shown onscreen.
Barry Barrett truly exclaimed: "Handsome, good-natured, clever, a capable cook—anyone marrying you must’ve accumulated good fortune over generations."
Simon Sue self-mockingly replied: "That’s odd then, not a single girl properly pursuing me."
Barry Barrett said: "That’s because you’re too excellent, average girls wouldn’t dare think of it—they see you as unreachable, a star to admire from afar. There’s a saying, isn’t there? Only for admiration, not for play."
Simon Sue glanced at his phone, chuckled lightly: "Alright, stop flattering me, I’m getting conceited. The dishes are nearly done—you go upstairs and tell everyone to get ready to come down for lunch."
