Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 679: She Will Completely Loathe You
But Audrey is his sister; seeing his sister being wronged naturally pains him.
And since Hannah Sue has no relation with him, he truly doesn’t feel distressed nor does he want to meddle in these trivial matters, fearing that if he indulges her this time, this girl will cling to him in the future and refuse to let go.
Therefore, Evan Sutton responded to Hannah by saying: "Just go to the film city and find some random street performance, give them fifty to a hundred bucks, and it’ll be done."
But Hannah seemed to have reservations: "...No way, it has to be you!"
Evan raised an eyebrow: "Why is that?"
Hannah stammered: "I’m afraid of being swindled; what if I find a bad person?"
Evan: "Then aren’t you afraid I might be a bad person?"
Hannah immediately shook her head: "You don’t look like a bad person at all, plus you’ve helped me before and you have a legitimate job, there’s no reason to harm me. The extras at the film city are different, a mix of good and bad people; you’re much safer."
Seeing Evan remain silent, Hannah proposed again: "How about...I give you two hundred dollars?"
The real reason is she was bragging at school.
Saying the handsome guy who rescued her by the roadside that night is her boyfriend.
Some believed it, some didn’t. Then Grace actually told her to take a taxi to school herself, with the exact words being: "If you say he’s your boyfriend, then have him bring you to school on the first day."
So she bravely showed up today.
To put it simply, it was all for pride.
Evan didn’t even consider it for a moment before responding: "Save your two hundred bucks for someone who needs it more."
Hannah bit her chopsticks and asked him: "Is it because it’s not enough? But I’m still studying, I can’t offer you too much money. If you just help me this time, I’ll remember your kindness for a lifetime. If I become successful in the future, I will definitely repay you. Your favor will be counted as a debt I owe you; if you face difficulties later, just ask, and I’ll do my best to help."
Evan changed the excuse: "I’m about to be transferred; I won’t be in Rivia when school starts."
"Ah? Where are you being transferred? Is it far? Wouldn’t it be difficult to meet you afterwards?"
Evan glanced at her and replied indifferently: "Very far, hopefully we don’t meet again."
Hannah: "Where is ’very far’? As long as it’s a place reachable by plane, ship, train, or car, I can still come find you."
Evan clearly wasn’t going to tell her any location; he dreaded the idea of her following him and pestering him: "Focus on your studies, stop comparing yourself to others. Every semester in high school is important; acing your studies is what truly matters."
Hannah: "I’m doing well in my studies. I initially didn’t know what college I wanted to apply to, but now I have a goal. I want to be a doctor like you; who knows, maybe in the future we’ll be colleagues. That means you have even more reason to help me."
Evan lowered his head to eat, his silence intact.
Hannah continued rationalizing with her warped logic to brainwash Evan: "Moreover, it’s so easy for you to help me with this! Isn’t it just driving me to school? It’s not costing you much; at most, I’ll add extra for gas money. And your favor will be established. Even if you need me for something troublesome later, I will still go the extra mile for you. Aren’t you finding it worthwhile now?"
Evan put down his chopsticks, picked up a paper towel to wipe his mouth, and said calmly: "I don’t foresee needing your help for anything in the future."
Hannah: "A lifetime is so long; let’s not speak so definitively."
Evan: "Hurry and eat, finish up and leave quickly."
Hannah looked at him listlessly.
Evan: "Don’t look at me with that gaze, it’s useless. I’m very busy with work, no time to get involved in your petty kid squabbles." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Hannah, pursing her lips, immediately displayed a look of grievance: "To you, it’s a kid squabble, but it’s different for me. I live under the same roof with Grace Sutton. Why can she bully me whenever she wants? I can’t swallow this anger!"
Evan got up, walked to the corner’s wash sink, washed his hands: "That’s your family’s problem."
Hannah took a deep breath, a defeated demeanor, put down her chopsticks: "Alright, sorry to bother you."
Evan paused while washing his hands upon hearing that.
Afterward, he felt this young lady must be smart, using the ’pain advantage’ strategy, deliberately putting on a pitiful act, so Evan didn’t acknowledge it.
Hannah also put down her chopsticks, starting to pack up the meal boxes on the table, putting them in her pocket, even grabbing tissues to clean the table for him.
Then, carrying the takeaway bag, she walked to the door, saying to him: "Sorry to trouble you."
After saying that, she lightly closed the door and left.
Watching the door close, Evan felt somewhat uncomfortable.
It felt as though he was bullying the young girl.
But it’s good, being heartless avoids having the girl pin hopes on him in the future, asking for odd favors.
Yet thinking about the free lunch given by the young lady, he felt a bit guilty.
Though some homemade dishes might not be expensive for him, it probably cost the high school young lady several days of living expenses; perhaps he should have given her the meal money earlier?
While he was struggling with this thought, footsteps sounded outside the door again, high-heeled shoes. Initially relieved that it wasn’t Hannah coming back, but seeing Catherine Porter push the door and come in, he wished it was Hannah.
Catherine walked into the room, gently closed the door behind her, smiling at Evan: "Just heard, a young girl came delivering food to you?"
Evan: "Speak if you have something to say."
Catherine: "Heard you signed the transfer contract? Your sister lives in Rivia, do you really have the heart to leave?"
Evan: "Stop mentioning her."
Catherine chuckled: "Aren’t you afraid once you’re gone, I’ll make a move on your sister?"
Evan smirked mockingly: "If you believe you can compete with Shane Warner, go ahead, see how much longer your good days last."
Catherine: "Looks like you’ve planned it all along? Aren’t you afraid I’ll spill your little secrets to Audrey Sutton?"
Evan remained calm, asking her: "What’s the point in telling her? Can it harm her? She’ll continue living her life, so do you really think it achieves your goal?"
"But she will completely despise you."
"It doesn’t matter. As long as she is happy and content, that’s all I wish to see. It’s unimportant whether I can stay with her or not." When Evan said this, it didn’t seem like he was confronting Catherine emotionally; rather, it was his inner thoughts.
His serene detachment was something Catherine hadn’t anticipated.
