Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 702: The Child Who Suffered All the Wrongs
By the riverbank, the fine rain showered in the colorful night.
The chill gradually intensified.
"Squeak——"
Miles Sterling pushed open the room door, immediately hearing a cat meowing, as if welcoming his return.
He turned on the light at the entrance, only then seeing Blackie standing not far away.
Its whole body was pitch black, only those golden-orange eyes appeared particularly bright.
He always felt that this cat was very much like her.
Thinking about Vanessa Sterling’s death, Miles’s eyes couldn’t help but turn bloodshot.
He gently closed the room door, bent down to pick up Blackie from the floor and held it in his arms.
Blackie rubbed against his arm as if responding to him.
He remembered that at first, this little fellow was afraid of him, always hiding under the bed unwilling to come out.
After feeding it a few times, slowly interacting, letting it get familiar with the outside environment and with him, the cat no longer showed fear towards him.
The same approach doesn’t seem to work on people.
Until the moment she left, she probably hated him in her heart.
"Buzz buzz buzz——" The phone in his pocket kept clamoring, but Miles acted as if he couldn’t hear it and kept ignoring it.
Feeling that in this world, there wasn’t a single thing that went according to his wishes.
He opened the fridge, only a few glass jars of condiments remained in the empty space.
The freezer compartment had a few bags of unopened frozen foods, all bought by her previously.
Who knows if she liked eating them, or simply didn’t know how to make anything else, so she continued eating these.
Miles took out a bag of dumplings, uncertain whether they had expired or not.
He boiled water in a pot, tore open the bag with a large opening, and dumped all the frozen dumplings inside, turned into ice clumps.
He stood dazedly by the side, watching the water "gurgle gurgle" as it boiled, the dumplings tumbling in the water...
"Ding dong——"
The doorbell suddenly rang, Miles glanced at the door, vaguely hearing the voice outside: "Miles, it’s me."
Miles looked at the dumplings boiling in the pot, lazily and slowly walked to the door, opened it, and blocked the doorway looking at the person outside, with no intention of letting him in.
Quentin Sterling seemed to have come to check on Miles’s situation, seeing him unharmed, Quentin sighed in relief and lightly said, "I heard about Vanessa’s matter, don’t be too upset..."
Miles seemed unwilling to bring up this matter, coldly interrupted Quentin’s words: "Do you have other matters, Uncle?"
Quentin took a deep breath: "I explained to your grandfather, he understands your feelings. You should adjust yourself properly; there’s a gemstone auction next month, you and I can go together then."
Miles did not respond as if hearing these matters made him feel vexed, and quite rudely slammed the door shut.
Quentin knew Miles’s temperament, merely stood outside the door, sighed, and turned away.
Vanessa was someone he watched grow up, and although Miles often bullied her, he knew how much Miles cared about Vanessa.
He could remain indifferent to anyone and anything, but only when it came to Vanessa’s matters did he become restless and unsettled.
Believing Wendy Jennings didn’t like Vanessa, Miles took Vanessa away from home.
To Miles, Vanessa was likely the most special existence, so Vanessa’s departure definitely dealt him a great blow.
Speaking of it, he still owed Vanessa an apology.
That night’s incident was likely just Clarissa Morgan’s scheme to get a divorce from him. After seeing through Clarissa, Quentin realized Vanessa lacked both the intention and the courage.
Yet he vented his anger on Vanessa, saying many harsh words to her...
The dumplings were packed into a large bowl, not paired with any sauce, as Miles simply grabbed them by hand, stuffing one after another into his mouth until his mouth couldn’t fit any more.
Recalling past moments, Miles suddenly broke down emotionally, crying as the improperly chewed dumplings fell out of his mouth.
Without any concern for his image, just like a child who had suffered grievances, the suppressed emotions in his heart were released...
Two days later, the media broadcasted a full report on the cruise ship accident,
Jasper Jones reported his safety on the second day after the accident, fabricating a story about swimming to an island and being rescued, removing himself from the missing list.
He refused media interviews, clearly not wanting such news to affect Vanessa’s false death plan.
The total number of missing and deceased was twenty-five.
Crystal Wilson’s fans had been mourning her online these past days. It was said when her body and that of another male editor were found, neither wore anything, its reasons somewhat thought-provoking.
But the deceased had passed, and matters that might taint the deceased’s reputation naturally weren’t reported.
In the news, the topic hotter than Crystal Wilson’s death was #HylanMissingAtSea#.
Fans prayed under the topic, though everyone understood deep down that being missing in a maritime accident virtually meant being declared dead.
Bodies sinking into the sea might not even have floated to the surface before being devoured completely by underwater creatures.
Discussion about this cruise ship accident faded along with the end of salvage and rescue operations, soon replaced by gossip topics of entertainment stars on the trending list.
Jasper worried that Vanessa living on a small island near the accident site would be unsafe because if someone searched, the first targets would be nearby islands. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
So he changed to another city, bought a seaside villa, and took Vanessa there.
Vanessa cut off all connections with the outside, the unfinished comic ceased updates amid the comments of regret and prayers.
Audrey Sutton didn’t share this secret with anyone; even Laura Yates thought Vanessa Sterling was truly dead.
She only hoped to keep this secret, wishing Vanessa’s painstaking escape would never be found by Miles.
After Vanessa disappeared, Miles seemed like a changed man.
Recently, he often appeared in news and papers, no longer in those chaotic lifestyle gossip but following Quentin Sterling at various business meetings.
Audrey Sutton vaguely recalled meeting Miles for the first time; he was carefree, somewhat like Faye Xavier, quite fond of laughing.
Not sure what he experienced, nor whether her view of him changed after knowing of his violent tendencies, current Miles lacked the semblance remembered from their first meeting.
Just hoping this change allows both to live better lives.
"Ding dong——ding dong——"
The doorbell was pressed twice consecutively, Audrey guessed Phoebe King arrived, as only she rang the bell in this manner.
Audrey immediately rose to open the door, seeing Phoebe holding Summer at the door, carrying a small bamboo basket, smiling, "I brought homemade cookies for you to try; see if I’ve improved."
