Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 717: Gift
Watching Lana Holloway open her eyes, Norman Sutton asked her, "What did you wish for?"
Lana Holloway turned her head to look at Norman Sutton, yawned, and said, "I definitely can’t tell you that."
Norman Sutton: "If you say it, maybe I can help make your wish come true."
Lana Holloway: "Do you think you’re Santa Claus? Oh, by the way, I just saw a sign over there, it seems you can go downstairs and ask Santa for a small gift with a ticket."
Norman Sutton: "It’s just some candies and chocolates, didn’t you just eat enough?"
Lana Holloway: "Why not take freebies? Come on, let’s go take a look."
Norman Sutton had his hand in his pocket, feeling the small gift box inside, hesitating several times before he called out to Lana Holloway, "Wait a minute."
Lana Holloway turned back confused and looked at him, "What’s up?"
Norman Sutton glanced aside, not daring to look Lana Holloway in the eyes, "I have something for you."
"Hmm?" Lana Holloway walked back in front of him, "What is it?"
"Put out your hand."
Lana Holloway looked at him hesitantly and asked, "Are you planning a prank again?"
Norman Sutton frowned, "When I say put it out, just put it out!"
With that, he reached over and grabbed her hand, placing a light purple leather box in it.
Lana Holloway looked down at the exquisite gift box in her hand and asked, "What’s this?"
Norman Sutton’s gaze shifted elsewhere again, mumbling, "Why don’t you open it and find out for yourself?"
Lana Holloway always thought Norman Sutton wanted to prank her, so she carefully opened the box, expecting a toy cockroach or spider to jump out.
She was mentally prepared, but unexpectedly, resting inside the box was a pair of exquisite diamond earrings.
Lana Holloway’s eyes widened in surprise, "When did you buy these?!"
Norman Sutton replied, "Why ask so much? It’s a gift for you."
These earrings were the ones she had tried on the day they went shopping together. At that time, Norman Sutton had said he was buying a gift for his sister and asked her to help pick.
He said it was to repay her for her favor and asked her to choose a pair for herself as well.
When Lana Holloway tried them on, she mentally calculated the price in RMB, and the pair cost around a hundred thousand yuan, which scared her into declining immediately.
To Norman Sutton, tens of thousands might just be a small sum, but to Lana Holloway, it was too expensive.
She immediately closed the gift box and handed it back to him, saying, "I can’t accept this. Those things from that day already cost several tens of thousands."
Norman Sutton frowned and said, "Didn’t you just say why not take free gifts? You spent the whole day with me, I’m happy, so it’s only right for me to give you a small gift. Keep it yourself, if you don’t like it, exchange it for money or throw it in the trash can if you really don’t want it. Anyway, I never take back things I’ve given away."
With that, Norman Sutton walked downstairs, hands behind his back.
Lana Holloway looked at the box in her hand and carefully put it in her bag, then followed Norman Sutton downstairs.
They were in luck, and as soon as they got downstairs, they encountered staff dressed in Christmas outfits handing out small gifts.
Lana Holloway asked Norman Sutton for the ticket, queued up, and exchanged it for two small gift boxes.
There were still events planned after midnight, but Norman Sutton noticed Lana Holloway yawning while waiting in line, so he decided not to linger any longer.
Lana Holloway, holding a transparent candy box in one hand, walked over and handed one to Norman Sutton, "Yours."
Norman Sutton glanced at it disdainfully and didn’t reach out to take it, he just asked her, "Heading back?"
"We’ve walked around enough, let’s head back."
They hailed a taxi by the roadside and sat in the back seat.
Norman Sutton watched Lana Holloway open the candy box and pop a piece into her mouth and asked her, "Have you changed your flight yet?"
Lana Holloway nodded, "I did. It was supposed to be a morning flight tomorrow, but Zachary Wilson is on that one too, so I changed it to the afternoon to have a lunch before leaving."
Norman Sutton paused for a moment and asked, "Which flight?"
Lana Holloway: "It’s around two in the afternoon."
Norman Sutton: "I meant which airline."
Lana Holloway: "How am I supposed to remember that?"
Norman Sutton: "Take out your phone and check."
Lana Holloway: "Why? Do you want to go back with me?"
Norman Sutton scoffed, "Do you think I want to travel back with you? My mom knows I’m with you and told me to look after you. If anything happens to you on the way back, I’ll hear no end of it about her treasured apprentice disappearing."
Lana Holloway reluctantly took out her phone to check her flight information, and coincidentally, it was the same flight booked by Norman Sutton’s team.
Initially, Norman Sutton planned to go back and have his coach reschedule his ticket so he could travel back with Lana Holloway, but now things became easier.
When the car stopped at the hotel where Lana Holloway was staying, Norman Sutton got out of the car with her, as usual, and walked her to her hotel room door. Standing at the door, he said to her, "Let’s have lunch together tomorrow, I’ll call you."
Lana Holloway: "I’m eating at the hotel, too lazy to run around."
Norman Sutton: "Then I’ll come find you."
Lana Holloway looked at him, hesitated, and then nodded.
She knew Norman Sutton was taking care of her at their master’s request, so she wasn’t surprised that he’d been around her these past few days.
"I’m heading back now, make sure you lock the door."
"Wait..." Lana Holloway rummaged in her bag and then took out the light purple box, handing it back to Norman Sutton, saying, "I’m giving it back to you. I know it might just be a small gift for you, but it’s too valuable for me, so I can’t accept it. Besides, it wasn’t just me keeping you company, I had a great time today, thank you..."
Norman Sutton stopped to look at her, then glanced at the box in her hand, raised his hand to lightly tap her on the forehead, and said in an annoyed tone, "I told you to keep it, so keep it. Once I’ve given you something, it’s yours, do whatever you want with it, I don’t want it back. See you, annoying person."
His figure quickly disappeared around the corridor corner, and Lana Holloway looked down at the gift box in her hand, took a deep breath, and turned to go back into her room.
On the plane back home, the cabin was filled mostly with people from Norman Sutton’s team, and the guy sitting next to Lana Holloway was part of the team staff.
Norman Sutton directly switched seats to sit next to Lana Holloway.
Lana Holloway turned her head to watch as the plane taxied for takeoff. At the moment of takeoff, the sensation of weightlessness felt quite miraculous.
Unlike the previous journey, the mood of expectation and excitement had turned into relief and calm.
The romantic trip she had imagined hadn’t even started before it was shattered.
Seeing Zachary Wilson’s true colors, breaking up didn’t feel like a loss, rather it felt like a relief.
She’s relieved she didn’t fall deeper into Zachary Wilson’s lies.
