Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 743: Good Kid
Lana Holloway chuckled awkwardly and scratched her head, saying, "...The blind date from before didn’t work out well, so we haven’t kept in touch."
Norman Sutton snorted coldly, interjecting sarcastically, "Why didn’t it work out? Didn’t you guys go out for several meals? I was already expecting wedding invitations."
Taking advantage of Norman Sutton’s distraction, Audrey Sutton manipulated the controller in her hand to immediately knock out Norman Sutton’s game character, and then she said, "When Lana actually invites us for the wedding, some people might not be too happy, you know."
Norman Sutton reached out and pinched Audrey Sutton, signaling her to stop talking nonsense.
Audrey Sutton immediately complained to Shane Warner, who was sitting on the sofa nearby, "He hit your wife."
Holding Summer in his arms, Shane Warner rolled his eyes at Audrey Sutton.
Hazel Yates then asked Phoebe King, "And what about your cousin?"
Phoebe King cracked sunflower seeds and said, "He said they’ve added each other as friends, but last time he came over, wasn’t Lana privately called by Six to help out at the orchard? So they didn’t get to meet."
Phoebe King deliberately emphasized the word "privately."
Norman Sutton said confidently, "Dad asked me to go to the orchard. It was busy those days, what’s wrong with asking her to help?"
Samuel Sutton immediately objected, "I told you to go! I didn’t tell you to bring Lana along!"
Hazel Yates followed up by saying, "Exactly, Lana is now the right-hand woman of The Yates Family courtyard, she’s my apprentice. What gives you the right to order her around?" Hazel Yates turned to Lana Holloway and said, "Lana, don’t listen to him in the future."
Audrey Sutton said, "Maybe some people deliberately didn’t want Lana to go on the blind date?"
Norman Sutton scoffed, "Tch, if I had known she was going on a blind date those days, I definitely wouldn’t have called her! After all, it’s not easy for her to find someone to marry. You see, didn’t she chat quite well with the first blind date person? And now it’s failed, what’s that about being unsuitable? I think they just didn’t fancy her at all."
Lana Holloway’s smile froze, and she awkwardly lowered her gaze.
Even though she was used to Norman Sutton’s blunt speech, his words still stung at times.
This blind date ended in failure because the other party’s parents disliked her family, believing she had bad luck since her parents died early, fearing she’d bring misfortune to her husband.
It sounded like a ridiculous reason, but it still left a wound in her heart.
Forcing a smile while everyone chatted away, even though the atmosphere was lively, it just made Lana Holloway feel more sad inside.
Because she would remember the times when she celebrated New Year with her parents as a child.
Although her relatives took good care of her after her parents passed away, and showed concern for her affairs, it wasn’t really her own home, inevitably there was some estrangement; like now, she couldn’t completely belong to this harmonious family.
"Um... Master, it’s getting late, I’m going to leave now." Lana Holloway walked behind Hazel Yates and politely said.
Hazel Yates glanced at the clock on the wall, "Unknowingly it’s almost eleven o’clock, yes, it’s late. Third Brother said he needed to go to the company to fetch something, why don’t he send Lana on the way there."
Arthur Sutton nodded and was about to stand up, when he saw Norman Sutton throw down his game controller, stand up and say, "What are you fetching at the company, Third Brother? I’ll go get it for you, I’m feeling hungry and want to go out for some late-night snacks."
Arthur Sutton paused for a moment, glanced at Norman Sutton then at Lana Holloway, having listened the whole evening, he roughly understood the entangled relationships, therefore handed the company’s keys to Norman Sutton, saying, "It’s the blue folder on my desk."
Norman Sutton took the keys and walked to the coat rack by the door, he said while putting on his jacket, "I’m going to the riverside BBQ place, send me what you guys want to eat via WhatsApp, if I’m in a good mood, I might buy you some."
Phoebe King and Audrey Sutton’s eyes lit up immediately upon hearing, then they pulled Laura Yates together to discuss what to order.
Hazel Yates escorted Lana Holloway to the room door and instructed, "Just rest well these few days, come back around the seventh or eighth."
Lana Holloway nodded, "The wind’s strong at the door, Master, you should go inside."
Soon Norman Sutton drove the car to the door, Hazel Yates still stood at the door, watching Lana Holloway get into the car, then said to Norman Sutton, "Drive slowly, pay attention on the road."
Norman Sutton poked half his head out of the car window and said, "Got it, won’t lose your disciple."
Hazel Yates shot back a white-eyed look, "Come back earlier! Don’t go messing around with your friends outside again!"
Norman Sutton didn’t respond, closed the car window and started the car, soon driving out of the yard.
In the car, Lana Holloway sat in the back seat, silently staring out the window.
She seemed to be in low spirits, or perhaps it was just fatigue, with something weighing on her mind.
Norman Sutton glanced at Lana Holloway several times through the rearview mirror, finally speaking up, "What’s up? Worried about not getting married?"
Lana Holloway glanced at Norman Sutton without speaking, and again turned her eyes to the window.
Actually, she wasn’t in a hurry to get married herself, going on blind dates was more due to her relatives’ insistence.
Probably because she used to live in other people’s homes frequently, Lana Holloway subconsciously developed a people-pleasing personality, usually obeying relatives’ words, thinking that since they spend effort on her, they are showing care, feeling that it’s hard to refuse, even though she herself indeed somewhat resists blind dates, she still forced herself to go.
On blind dates, she unknowingly became the "chosen" party, as if once the other party nods, the marriage is settled.
She often didn’t know what she really wanted, just making herself become the "good kid" in others’ eyes, trying to please others, never leaving any bad impression, all negative things only processed when she’s back home alone.
"What’s up? Touched a sore spot? Not talking anymore?"
Lana Holloway replied in exasperation, "Whatever Young Master Sutton says is right, I’m just listening, what else is there to say."
Norman Sutton then asked, "You and whose cousin, chatted about what? He interested in you or not?"
Lana Holloway said self-deprecatingly, "Who would be interested in me? You, a big young master, don’t bother worrying over this little civilian’s business."
Norman Sutton naturally sensed the sarcasm in Lana Holloway’s words, and said, "Suit yourself, who wants to listen anyway." 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
After finishing, the car fell silent again.
Lana Holloway kept staring out the window in a daze, while Norman Sutton seemed to have things weighing on his mind, hesitating to speak several times, finally he couldn’t help but speak as they were almost at Lana Holloway’s home, "You didn’t prepare me a New Year gift?"
